Resident Evil coined the phrase survival horror whats the difference?
Kev, stop.
no wonder the first game was shit. the devs seemingly didn't even know the genre of their game.
they legit called the first one a survival horror game during the announcement of this lol. it's just a stealth game, there were zero survival game mechanics
I, along with pretty much everyone here, would disagree with you.that might have worked in a well designed game. too bad it wasn
you are asking me what the difference between an action adventure with very oldscool adventure elements, inventory management, limited items, and limited saves... and a game that is not an action adventure but a stealth game, with no inventory management, auto checkpoints and no item scarcity is?
are you for real?
they aren't even remotely the same genre.
Survival Horror is already not a valid game genre, as horror is a theme, and themes are not genres in video games.
but the survival part is at leats a valid prefix, that indicates precisely item management, inventory management, and a focus on harsh punishment for not surviving, which Resident Evil 1 did by making save rooms the only way to save, and even having a hard limit on how many times you are allowed to save... and if you die, you have to load your last save.
this dynamic of having limited inventory slots, having limited ammo, limited heals, having to find your way to the next save room or to your planned destination and back to the last save room without dying, is the survival aspect of the "survival horror" in question.
having to do none of that, and having auto checkpoints that you just reload when getting caught, simply is just what happens in most stealth games.
and that's exactly what Isolation is, it's a stealth game with a horror theme and some alibi "puzzles" that are really not puzzles but micro games to feign gameplay variety.

Released very soon after release.
Instantly made it one of the greatest survival horror games of all time.
You go back to your last manual save. On the last save station you visited.never played that mode. what happens when you die?
You go back to your last manual save.
Mina is actually incredible.
But so was Alien Isolation, so I have no idea what he's on about.
I'd rather take a razor to my balls than take any recommendations from you dude.
No. Survival horror. THE survival horror.so more like, survival stealth?
No. Survival horror. THE survival horror.
No difference in management of Working Joe (I killed most) than Resident Evil zombies at max difficulties. The game just has a very persistent Nemesis equivalent, doesn't make it stealth only.
And it's the best of this kind of enemies ever seen in any game.

You're trying to outdo me in neogafs retard of the year award and it's working

I already have it on the backlog

I did it in another thread and people cried. Why come here and shit all over everyone's excitement. Does your life suck that bad?

It isn't worth being bothered by this, happens to every game, there is always a crowd for every game that says it's shit. Why come here and shit all over everyone's excitement. Does your life suck that bad?
no wonder the first game was shit.
Actually, Alien Resurrection was better... It was an unintentional comedy, but it was funny.Alien Resurrection is better, so was Alien 3
and if we include AvP games it's not even in the top 10.

Yeah I would agree to this, personally didn't mind, but I can understand it being an issue. The only thing wrong with Isolation was its length. That's it.
Yes, it was a good game. I've never been so terrifingly immersed in a video game before; one of the few games that has left a lasting impression on me. What I really appreciated about the gameplay was that there were no HUD indicators like so many in the genre. I found that (most) of the same rules and logic you would apply to real-life stealth, translated well into the game. Death also had a real consequence and sometimes became a game of when to plan your saves if the Alien was near. The atmosphere, AI, graphics, and stealth mechanics were all top-notch. The game did run a little too long in certain sections, but I loved that it took its time, carrying me on an epic journey of survival. There is more to the game than you let on, as more enemies are introduced, new ways to dispose of them, and the intensity racks up later in the game by throwing everything at you.amazingly bad yes.
imagine playing a hide and seek stealth game with no interesting mechanics for 15h and thinking it's a good game lol
Yeah I would agree to this, personally didn't mind, but I can understand it being an issue.
Also I agree about the variation or very few enemies or pretty basic gameplay. But in a way that was the whole point, to make it as close as possible in atmosphere and gameplay to the 1st movie.
what can I say, if not liking badly designed slop is retarded, then call me mr. down syndrome
When a survey team on a remote colony-planet discovers a mysterious crashed vessel, one member makes it her priority to investigate. No one is prepared for the horror unwittingly unleashed on the settlement. Nowhere is safe.
So begins a desperate journey to survive and escape, as she is relentlessly hunted by the deadly creature.
no wonder the first game was shit. the devs seemingly didn't even know the genre of their game.

This has been said already numerous times before on this thread, but I can't stay silent. This is probably the most retarded statement I've seen on this site.no wonder the first game was shit. the devs seemingly didn't even know the genre of their game.
That's just most genre labels now. Roguelikes can be any genre, survival games can be any genre, soulslikes could be any genre, strategy could mean a bunch of genres etc. But often the only 'genres' mentioned are those leaving you without knowing. Even worse when it comes with a story trailer which also doesn't help you figure out what genre it actually is.horror is not a game genre, I don't like the survival horror moniker in general, because it doesn't really tell you what a game actually is.
