I think this is the first celebrity death since John Ritter that hit me like a ton of bricks. I admire this dude so damn much. Such an enormous talent that made any movie with him in it at least watchable. I'm really gonna miss him on the big screen. The amazing roles left unfulfilled. What a loss.

Sucks. First fell in love with his acting in Twister and then Boogie Nights. He was brilliant and stood out entirely on his own.

One of the greats. RIP

His ability to play comedic roles along with the heavier, depth-heavy serious characters was some of the best in the whole goddamn industry. Even in bit parts the dude had a gravity to him that pulled your eyes away from everyone else.

I can't believe we'll never see another movie with him in it again.

Probably in the Top 5 or so best actors of all time, this is absolutely devastating to me. Definitely going to go back through his history and watch some of his best movies in mourning.

He is supposed to be in the next 2 Hunger Games movies, but I don't think they finished filming them...

Edit: It looks like they finished filming the first part but not the second...

I'm pretty sure the finished shooting the next hunger games movie already, so there's probably a few more movies with him in it left.

I could see where this is coming. I think this guy was a great actor, but dying of heroine is fucking stupid and makes me have less sympathy for him.

yeah the world is black and white with no chance to fail or you won't get simpaty... for me that doesn't work even if he had an overdose that make me pitty him even more, an addiction is not a easy thing to deal with.

I don't understand people that don't have compassion if someone OD's. You're perfect, you have no weaknesses?

Most people think being human is a one dimensional quality, which makes it impossible for the same person to do both good and evil. Society has the regrettable tendency of reinforcing this belief through oversimplification in media and historical records.

That area of the West Village where he lived in is full of dealers selling shit all the time. It must of been really rough for him knowing you are always going to be tested. I said this earlier about him, he was very chill when he came to the bar. Came dolo and was great to the staff. He has been going there for years...Great stories he told. Surely he will be missed.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the rare actors that elevated anything he was in, whether it was heavy hitters like Capote and The Master or mediocre movies like Along Came Polly. He was truly one of the best of his generation. RIP

Yea especially fucking HEROIN.
But fuck it, guys. No sympathy cause they're illegal drugs.....

They might do some fancy editing work with doubles if they have enough material. Or if that's not an option they might be able to get away with rewriting the script, giving his stuff to other characters.

As for d-bags on the internet: Ended a relationship with a longtime friend(we had barely seen each other in recent years) after Whitney Houston died. Dude put up a FB post about he was sick of hearing about her (it had been a day since she died) and that her death was to be expected given her past. I pointed out his own father had died from a drug addiction(cigarettes, he claims his dad smoked 2 packs a day and came down with lung cancer...but later refuted what he had told me earlier that it was lung cancer). He didn't like that comparison when I brought that up. Dumb assholes like to judge from their computers while overlooking their own shit. Told him to have empathy and that he said he does(which he doesn't given his comments on Whitney) and said he learned empathy from his father. His father once told me we should solve the Middle East situation by nuking it.

I haven't seen any of his movies but wish his family and fans my heartfelt condolences.
