Drug addiction is not some joke. It's not something you just shake off by "sucking it up." It's a deep, deep need that invades your mind every waking moment, that makes you feel incomplete and lifeless every second you don't have that drug coursing through your body.

It can ruin anyone's life - this is the proof. Hoffman was clearly an intelligent man, with a great career and a family. It only takes a single hit of heroin for it to consume your life forever.

Glad you said this, happy to hear a voice of reason in this thread. Drug addiction goes deep, it can fuck you up in ways that are almost impossible to understand if you haven't gone through something like that yourself. Life can turn into a living nightmare, even while you're, for the outside world, maintaining a happy life. Stories like this still affect me a lot. I'm happy I kicked the stuff, and I hope to God that I didn't do any permanent damage.

Let's remember a great actor, not the weakness that he wasn't able to overcome. He was only human.
