Kill: Home Movies
Kill: Goof Troop
Save: Swat Kats

Stop with Swat Kats killing agenda. I can see you guys are just afraid of the best contender to the throne.

Operation kill Swat Kats, begin!
I had planned on calling GAFers to arms for this. Glad I have support!

Kill: Swat Kats
Kill: Swat Kats

Too many shows I liked have been removed while this one remains. Also, premise stinks and the intro is lame.

Save: Home Movies

After watching a couple episodes last night this show is still funny.

Kill: Freakazoid
Kill: Freakazoid

Save: Home Movies

Freakazoid not going before Recess is a travesty!

My save was up between Home Movies and Goof Troop, I will be bummed if either go.

Kill: SWAT Kats
Kill: SWAT Kats
Save: Freakazoid

SWAT Kats is irrelevant

Freakazoid is amazing, what's wrong with you people.

Kill: Talespin
Kill: Gooftroop

Both okay shows that are better left in the middle.

Save: Home Movies

Sure I hadn't watched this until it was on adult swim, but it is a great show.

You know, I was never a really big TaleSpin fan back in the day. But looking back on it now, it actually had a pretty high level of maturity to it's writing compared with other shows on the Disney Afternoon block. Except for maybe Gargoyles, of course.

Kill: Home Movies - Already voted several times for this.
Kill: Home Movies
Save: Tale Spin - If it's between Swat Kats, Goof Troop and Tale Spin, I'll save Tale Spin.

Okay, looks like popular opinion is starting to turn on my own beloved shows. It's time to take a stand.

Kill: Spongebob
Kill: Spongebob

Save: TaleSpin

What is Spongebob? Spongebob is an excellent, well-written, irreverent comedy with cross-demographic appeal. It is a cultural phenomenon.
What is Spongebob not? A 90s cartoon.

It is a natural successor to Ren and Stimpy in much of its style. (i.e. full of idiots, sudden way-too-much-detail closeups, etc) But it is fundamentally a show of the 00s. In the brief period it existed in the 90s, it was still establishing itself, and had not yet been discovered beyond being "just another kid's show". If we are to judge shows based on their performance outside of the decade in question, then The Simpsons should have been kicked out by now for being middling, safe, written-by-committee, nonsensical crap. But we're not doing that, because we're considering the show, as it was, in the 90s. Spongebob was not a factor in the 90s.

As for my save, the circa-1992 after-school Disney block was a ritual. To remove one is to remove my soul!

Spongebob will have to be wrenched out of my cold dead hands.

Anyways,
Kill: Swat cats
Kill: Swat cats Not as good as some on the list.

Save: SBSP: see above. My beloved show.
Edit: joining the bandwagon.

Tale Spin and Goof Troop will cripple fight their way to that second elimination slot, and nothing of value was lost except Swat Kats.

It wasn't in my "shows that will-make-the-top-ten-or-this-means-war" list, but still. That list is still untouched.

Mine are all still in here fighting the good fight. Daria is the only kill so far that really stunk for me.

Daria for me too is the only show I've really liked to be eliminated so far. Stuff like Ed, Edd & Eddy, Ah! Real Monsters and Angry Beavers are shows I enjoyed but am not strongly attached to.

Edit: Recess would be my second favorite to be eliminated. Didn't like it nearly as much as Daria though.

I didn't really like Daria, but I know it has a cult following.

Not finishing Ren and Stimpy is my "Oh no; How did I let that happen" moment of the thread thus far. Something I care about will probably go down in a fight with it, all because I was a couple minutes too late in swapping my votes. I like the show, but not as much as some other stuff. That was the highest drama moment anyway.

I just realized that King of the Hill wasn't on the list.

Yeah...
King of the Hill
is one of the best shows ever made, in my eyes. I wish I remembered to suggest it early on. It ran clear from 1997 to 2010, though, so it'll get a strong chance in the Ots thread, whenever that comes.

I finally wrote down my guess for the ten finalists. First five were easy, the rest I'm not so confident about.

Luckily KotH is applicable for the aughts. I haven't seen the later seasons. Was it good until the end?

Now, I'm really wondering what your choices for top 10 are. This is why this thread is so interesting.

Oddly enough, I think things have calmed down the past day or two, now that there are less clear examples of what to kill.

I do think Pinky and the Brain need to go at some point before we hit the top 20.

Jesus, how many do we have left now, 30-something, right?

I suggested KOTH and Family Guy, but I was a little too late with the suggestions. I personally loved the first few episodes of Family Guy. I still remember when it first aired and it confused the heck out of everyone. No one had seen a cartoon go so far and be so controversial before.

Not sure how other people thought of the first season, but I loved it.

King of the Hill was pretty great as well. "Mother of god its all toilet sounds." Also when he kept calling the child protective officer "twig boy."

First three seasons of Family Guy were great. I still make references to them now (and even some of season four).

Early KotH wasn't the best, but it did have some solid moments like that. I don't know when it peaked.

Yeah 30 something. After the victor in the Swat Kats/Tale Spin/Goof Troop love triangle is decided, I'd hope that show is next.

Other than that...

I looked at an episode of that Sonic cartoon and...unless I was looking at the wrong cartoon...meh.

First three seasons of Family Guy were great. I still make references to them now (and even some of season four).

That particular episode was great. I don't know when KotH peaked.

I didn't realize Family Guy aired in 99, so I was never annoyed at it not being on the list. Now...

Meh. A top ten with 3 slots taken up by people drive-by saving KOTH, Family Guy, and Simpsons over and over would have been a bit boring. Of those three, the greatest 90's mainstream cartoon (for all ages) was the one included.

Downside for FG is when the aughts Survivor happens it will be killed quickly because of the turd it became.

No one has judged Spongebob for the turd it became yet in this thread, so I don't know. FG was definitely at its best in those first couple seasons for sure, and yeah, people will probably have forgotten how good it was.

Kill: Freakazoid
Kill: Freakazoid
Save: Hey Arnold

Don't like Freakazoid, but I do enjoy Hey Arnold. Those are my reasons.

If it came down to Freakazoid vs. Hey Arnold I would definitely have to choose Arnold. Arnold was just better. BUT it's way too early for Arnold vs. anything. There's way too much crap left on the board.

Small note: Gonna end up pushing tommorow and future deadlines to Midnight ET as I am going back to uni tommorow and I need to get a decent rest every night.
Also 15 mins until this round is closed.

90s simpsons is the best thing on that list, but 90s arnold is probably second for me. at any rate, i know my top 3 would be hey arnold, the simpsons, and batman. rocko's modern life would be up there too.

i never liked animaniacs outside of pinky & the brain and good idea/bad idea. freakazoid is something i would like to love but i just can't.

In case anyone's wondering here are the results:

Swat Kats is dead with 28 kill votes and 7 saves.
Goof Troop is dead with 11 kill votes and no saves.

Talespin came in third place with 7 kills and 2 saves.
Freakazoid came in fourth place with 10 kill votes and 6 saves.
Doug came in fifth place with 4 kill votes and 1 save.

Special sixth place shout out to Home Movies with 10 kill votes and 8 save votes.

Feel free to go back and double check my counting to make sure these are the correct results.

Early KotH was great. First season was only ok-ish. Second season was great from the start. Sure the characters were still looking for themselves, but what we saw in S2 was the real start of KotH. S3 to S6 were the best of them all.

I think Judge and Daniels left primary show running duties towards end of S6 and from S7 onwards the show changed a bit. It was still solid show and it never turned it's back to it's origins like Simpsons or South Park.
