1990's Cartoon Survivor (Do-Over)

Not open for further replies.
The Simpsons had enough great seasons during the 90s for me to try and save it til the end. If it were the 00s it would be different story, though.

the submission period would be right after the final round. I'm gonna ask for suggestions in this thread.
The thread itself would not appear until sometime near the end of the year.
Dont want to burn anybody out.

Maybe have a vote on when people want it to start? I'd be keen for it in the next couple of months, a year seems like a crazy long amount of time.

Whoa, we have to wait over 6 months for the next one? I vote a one month break and then we move on to the 00s. After that, get on with top animated movies of the 90s and then top animated movies of the 00s.

It's more like I need a break. Keeping on top of this thread is kinda difficult. How about a compromise? We do this again in March with the theme of March Madness. That should be fun.

Yes, top animated movies especially would be interesting.

I agree with your feelings about Beavis and Butthead but how can you say Gargoyles is generic but SWAT Kats is "awesome". Gargoyles quotes Shakespeare and introduces characters from some of his plays and other mythology into their universe. Swat Kats has cat people fighting monsters with vehicles. I would say SWAT Kats is far more generic then Gargoyles and I am as unbiased as they come to Gargoyles, lol.

P.S. I love SWAT Kats as well, I just wouldn't say it's stories are deep compared to Gargoyles.
Gotta agree with Goliath. Would love for you to change that kill vote. Gargoyles was so ahead of its time time with the themes it dealt with. Would've gotten cleared for multiple seasons if it aired now. Plus, dat TNG VA crossover. Shame Sir Patrick didn't decide to to voice act until later on. Would've taken him in Gargoyles over American Dad any day of the week.

Kill: talespin
Kill: recess

I never really watched either of the shows. I usually enjoyed what I saw, but it's just not a favorite.

Save: courage

You stoopid dog

Wouldn't it be better to have an odd number of shows on the list?

That way we end up with three and we can still vote to kill two and save one.

Seems like you'd want an odd number so you could get to a top 5 then start eliminating 1 at a time. Or you could get to a top 10 and eliminate 1 at a time.

Oh My God!
What a round!
The most votes ever in this competition so far, (41)and the most fun I've ever had filling out a spreadsheet has resulted in this.
The cartoons being voted out of Round #15 are Aladdin with 19 votes and 1 save and Recess with 19 votes and only 6 saves.
If not for the liberal use of saves the rest of your top 5 for this round would not look like this:
  1. Freakazoid (18 kills and 13 Saves)
  2. Swat Kats (12 kills and 8 Saves)
  3. Doug (5 votes and 2 saves)
Bottom 2 is not significant this round and includes and large amount of one off saves so it will not be included this round.
Your remaining list:
  • Spongebob Squarepants (Seasons 1-4)
  • Rocko's Modern Life
  • Ren & Stimpy
  • Hey! Arnold
  • Rugrats
  • Doug (Nickelodeon Version)
  • Dexter's Laboratory
  • Johnny Bravo
  • The Powerpuff Girls
  • Courage the Cowardly Dog
  • Animaniacs
  • Batman:The Animated Series
  • Freakazoid
  • Pinky & The Brain
  • Darkwing Duck
  • DuckTales
  • X-Men:The Animated Series
  • Gargoyles
  • Swat Kats
  • Tiny Toons
  • Tale Spin
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • The Simpsons
  • South Park
  • The Tick
  • Superman The Animated Series
  • Animaniacs
  • Beavis and Butthead
  • Goof Troop
  • Batman Beyond
  • Home Movies
  • Reboot
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAm)
  • DragonBall Z
  • Beast Wars

Note: it was revealed to me that There was a copy of a show on the list and it threw off the counting of shows so that's why only two shows disappeared off the list.

Happy Voting GAF (Deadline 1 AM ET)

Glad to see I'm not only one that likes Freakazoid :) I know it's going eventually but glad to see it stick around at least for few more rounds. Why is Sonic still there? Look at this shit.

Kill TaleSpin
Kill Swat Kats
Save Home Movies

Kill: Home Movies
Kill: Home Movies
Save: Johnny Bravo

I can't stand Home Movies. The characters rarely move, so it's comedy mostly relies on what the characters say. The thing is, what they say is usually boring. Also I hate the character designs. They all look so simple, and their lines are always freaking out. I know it's a style choice, but I don't like it.

Save Johnny Bravo since I really liked the show. It always made me laugh, and everytime Johnny said a catchphrase it was golden.

EDIT: Kinda off-topic, but did anybody else know that Seth Macfarlane wrote for Johnny Bravo? I just read that. If true, that's pretty cool.

Now this is really hard. I liked it, but now it's Goof Troop

Kill: Goof Troop
Kill: Goof Troop
Save: SWAT Kats (bracing myself, kill votes are coming)

Too many people hellbent on saving Freakazoid. I mean it was good but agrh.. whatever

Operation kill Swat Kats, begin!

Kill: SWAT Kats
Kill: SWAT Kats
Save: Home Movies

Hated the art and the material wasn't very interesting iirc. I watched it back in the day because I watched anything as long as it was a cartoon.

Edit: oh hell no, people are trying to kill Home Movies? I change my save vote

Kill: Tale Spin- How the hell did Baloo go from Jungle Book to this? You know what was a way better Disney action-adventure cartoon from the same era? Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers.
Kill: Tale Spin
Save: Swat Kats- Eh, why not?

Because Sanic is way past cool
I still don't understand how Jaleel White is both Urkel and Sonic

TaleSpin had some good episodes, I also liked Don Karnage and the Iron Vulture, but overall the show wasn't all that good. Chip n' Dale on the other hand was great, my favorite Disney morning cartoon from the 90s.

I'm going to go with:

Kill Tale Spin
Kill Swat Kats
Save Home Movies

I never got into Tale Spin, even after watching it a few times as a kid. Something about it never clicked with me, and I liked most of these other shows at least a little bit more. Maybe I just feel there are better Disney shows remaining.

Consider me a Swat Kat Killer. I've watched a few clips and read up on it and I'm not feeling it, but hey: we're basically at the halfway point, so anything that's lasted this long should be proud to some degree, right? The intro is fun enough, but there's something missing in it for me.

Kill: TBA
Kill: TBA
Save: Home Movies

Hey wait, wait, wait- isn't the Sonic show on this list the good show? The freedom fighter one?

If it's the other show... man, that should've died ages ago.

I think it's the one with Freedom Fighters, but even that was awful. Show had terrible voice acting and the character designs were just wrong.

I don't know what to kill this round. Goof Troop had a great movie (greattttt movie) if my memory serves, but I don't remember caring for the TV show at all. Home Movies had Coach McGuirk... soo.....yeah...

Mmm.....

Swat Kats was also really really cool when I was a kid and I remember everyone liking it. Doug is a much bigger classic than Home Movies, Goof Troop, Swat Kats and Tale Spin combined...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kill: Goof Troop
Kill: Goof Troop
Save: Doug

Swat Kats was more fun than Tale Spin or Goof Troop ever thought about being, but if you guys are going to kill Swat Kats for some reason, at least I can make sure Goof Troop dies instead of Tale Spin.

Edit: Saw a few additional Doug kills. Nope nope nope. Not today.

Keep making it personal, dweebs.

Kill: Home Movies - IT'S TIME TO PAY THE PRICE.
Kill: Home Movies - What does that even mean?
Save: SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron

Yes, I enjoyed Home Movies immensely, but I'll put a kill vote on it in a heartbeat just because of impulse SWAT Kat kills.

kill: freakazoid
kill: freakazoid
save: hey arnold

edit 2: i'm changing my vote again out of revenge for people trying to kill hey arnold and save freakazoid.

Kill: Goof Troop (Why is this still on the list?)
Kill: Swat Kats (over stayed it's welcome)

Save: Animaniacs (It is not it's time - too many great moments to go so early)

Phew I was really afraid for Freakazoid last round. Looks like he is safe for now.

Kill: SWAT Kats
Kill: SWAT Kats
Save: Home Movies

Home Movies is a great show, I'll be honest I didn't really "get" it as a kid. However for some reason I always seemed to watch it whenever I saw it on. Going back to it as an adult, this show is wonderful.

Kill : Swat Kats

Kill : Swat Kats

Save : Home Movies

Swat Kats has to go because I forgot to remember what I was forgetting. Home Movies I assume is the show that ran in reruns on Adult Swim, so it must stay.

Kill : Swat Kats
Kill : Swat Kats
Save : Hey Arnold!

I was tempted to vote both Home Movies and Tailspin out, but then I remembered Reboot was still on this list. How - why - someone should tell me... It's aged horrendously!
Lets leave Animaniacs alone until the actual undeserving shows are removed, thanks!

You guys are killing me! I guess we're going for blood these rounds. Swat Kats - YOU NEXT.
P.S - If you think Hey Arnold! is overrated,
you're overrated!

Reboot and Animaniacs are two shows I haven't gone back to since childhood. Have they really aged that badly?

I remember the Animaniacs used to make me laugh but sometimes they just annoyed the hell out of me.
