Well I have to come back now, people trying to Kill Recess?!

Kill: Swat Cats - The art style was bad and the music was cheesy, need I say more?
Kill: Freakazoid - Even as a kid I could tell the voice acting was bad, I definitely never wanted to watch it.

Save: Recess

This show was fantastic, an idealised version of what we all thought recess was as a kid and what we could do during it. The Pharoah Bob episode where the leader of the playground decides he wants to be remembered forever so has the kids build a pyramid was surprisingly deep.

I didn't like swat kats, and I watched Aladdin daily before school. ( I won't be that sad to see it go though.)

If you don't mind seeing Aladdin go any chance you could change your save to Recess? :)

Seems fair to me. That show was going to last a while, anyway.

Kill: Recess
Kill: Aladdin
Save: TBA

Recess was ok enough for me, but I think it's not as strong as other shows that aimed for the same material (Hey Arnold, for example).

Home Movies is still on the List, that's a better target than recess.

This thread is making me seriously want to go back and check out Swat Cats.

Good luck. The only episode I found only was The Pastmaster Always strike twice, which was the first episode and has that first episode feel (plot holes, questionable writing, but all around good episode and great villain). And the dark side of the swat kats, which wasn't one of the best written, but still a great one. I can't find Turmoil, which is the best of episode of the show. Or any with the Metalicats, who were a Bonnie and Clyde duo who were robots. They are awesome to listen to and watch.

OT:
Kill: Pinky and The Brian - The show was great as shorts on Animaniacs, but as stand alone, not so much.

Kill: Goof Troop - This should go before Aladdin. Goof Troop only has like 2 good episodes, the rest were kind of boring.

Save: Swat Kats - It may have some cringy moments (mainly that they stick the word Mega in a lot of stuff), but over a great show.

Kill: Swat Cats - The art style was bad and the music was cheesy, need I say more?

The art style was awesome. Much better than most shows out at the time.

Kill: Aladdin
Kill: Aladdin
Save: SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron

Recess'll be next if ppl don't get off T-Bone and Razor's junk.

Kill: Recess
Kill: Recess
Save: SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron

Mentioned reasons for both before, but I just don't like Recess and found SWAT Kats decent.

Kill: Gargoyles
Kill: Beavis and Butthead
Save: SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron

Gargoyles was just plain generic, the 90s would have survived without that show. Beavis and Butthead is just too stupid/gross for my tastes, and SWAT Kats is awesome.

SWAT Kats on the chopping block again? And one reason is the music was cheesy? That radical guitar stuff was what made the 90's.

Kill: Aladdin
Kill: Aladdin
Save: SWAT Kats

Liked Aladdin but recess was better, and they're both on the cutting floor.
Saved SWAT Kats because it was the radical hanna barbara cartoon that the 90's needed and deserved before Mr. Captain Planet took it off the air for being "too violent". T-Bone and Razor were a couple of blue collared brothers running a junk yard and saving the world in awesome fashion while both having well developed personalities of their own. The show only went from 93-94 so I think anyone under 22 was probably too young to remember how awesome it was.

It's a true shame because this show was a 90's show in it's purest form. The age of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Nerf guns.

The saddest part about SWAT Kats, besides it having a short run, is that the DVDs are relatively expensive. $30+ for the entire (short) series is a lot more than I'd expect to pay for it.

Kill: Aladdin ; I'm going off the fact that I have no real memory of this. I remember some of the episodes from doing a quick search, but when I think of Aladdin the show never comes to mind. I am guessing my impression wasn't too great if I watched it and don't really remember it.

Kill: Freakazoid ; I kind of liked Freakazoid, but I wouldn't really put it in the same league as anything else left on the list. I'd put a lot of the shows already eliminated way before Freakazoid.

Save: Recess ; Recess was always great throughout to me and had almost no dip in quality, even went back and watched some of it recently and still liked it a lot.

Almost wanted to save Swat Kats but Recess is just the better show.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I'm also amused at how this thread is actually getting me a little riled up over nothing but cartoons hahaha. Maybe that's why I keep coming back... to be amazed at my own childishness

Kill : Swat Cats.

I never really liked Angry Beavers, and I can't remember watching Swat Cats at all.

Kill : Swat Kats

Kill : Swat Kats

Save : Aladdin

Can't remember watching it but didn't like it? haha

Finally, Sailor Moon was knocked out.

Kill: Swat Kats
Kill: Fantastic Max

Never saw either show.

Kill: Swat Kats
Kill: Swat Kats (this show will die by hand...)

You guys killed Sailor Moon, it's just personal now...and I loved Eek!
[...]
I can hardly recall [SWAT Kats] to be totally fair.

A lot of radical hate for a show never watched. And with the voting mechanism it only takes a little over %33 of angry voters to kill any show haha.

Kill: Freakazoid
Kill: Aladdin

Funny to see another round of killing Swat Kats come up again.

Save: Recess

Hopefully Home Movies will prevail.

Easier for me to kill off shows I've never watched than ones I have.

It's kind of easy to understand if everything else on the list is shows they've watched and liked. You'd vote out a show you watched and somewhat liked over a show you never watched?

Attention!
Beast Wars has been added back to the list because I miscopyied on one of the rounds and left it out. Of course since this now makes it an odd number of shows left, There will be 3 shows voted off this round, so keep that in mind when voting. This will be the only round where this happens so vote accordingly. That is all.

You don't need to knock off 3 this round. You already have an even number of shows. You just have Animaniacs in the list twice.

This is what makes me think the top 10 is going to be all 1999-ish cartoons haha.

SWAT Kats was the #1 animated show by ratings in 94.

It would be interesting to see if someone could dig up the best rated shows of each year by the end of this thread to see how far off we were haha

The fuck, people. SWAT KATZ was brilliant, go watch it. I think SWAT KATZ have enough saves, so I'll just kill other shows.

Kill: Freakazoids - Sorry, this is the beginning of the end. To be fair, WB shouldn't trade Animaniac for anything, not even Pinky and the Brain. Freakazoid didn't have the same magic.
Kill: Recess - Never watch it, but I'm up for a weeding out a quick one.
Save: Doug

Freakazoid(as well as Earthworm Jim, which aired directly after it) are special shows to me because they both represent the last Saturday Morning cartoons that I ever woke up early to watch.

The very first year of the Kids' WB Network was great. That lineup of Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain, Freakazoid, Earthworm Jim and Looney Tunes was just impossible to top. I could have done without the Sylvestery & Tweety Mysteries, though. But after they canned both Freakazoid and Earthworm Jim, I stopped watching cartoons pretty much entirely. Some of it was age(I was nearly full grown by that point), some of it was a feeling that cartoons were becoming cheaper and too kiddified for my personal tastes.

But I always think of Freakazoid and EWJ as the symbolic end of my childhood in some ways. That's why they hold a special place for me.

Kill: Swat Kats
Kill: Recess
Save: Freakazoid

I'm sorry, but if Biker Mice from Mars had to go, then Swat Kats gets to go too.
Recess was no Doug.

Freakazoid had me using the term of disappointment "Oh, nutbunnies" for years. Any show that changed my speaking habits that much gets to live a little longer.

Also, this thread is getting awesome. There are about 7 shows still on the list that I would no-guilt kill, but it looks like I'll never get another vote where I don't lose a show I liked.

Kill: Swat Katz- sorry young whipper snappers but I was in junior high when this was out and enjoying Eek the Cat more. Since Eek is gone I must vote Swat.

Kill: Aladdin- Robin Williams IS genie. No substitutes.

Save: Freakazoid- He's gonna save the nation so stay tuned to this station. If not we'll be unemployed. Genious!

Kill: Doug
Kill: Doug
Save: SWAT Kats

Doug was one of those shows that whenever it came on I was like "This looks so boring...."

Kill: Freakazoid
Kill: Freakazoid
Save: Beavis and Butthead

EDIT - I changed my mind. I don't feel like saving Doug. Nickelodeon Doug was awesome, but the Disney version was crap.

Yeah, the "only aired ten episodes in the 90s" factor bothers me with some shows, but thankfully some of the bigger offenders have been cut *cough Weekenders cough*.

The Freakazoid vs Recess throwdown marches on!

I've got an analysis of this that I'm going to post, I'm just unabashedly waiting until we're on the next page.

I thought it was Freakazoid vs. Swat Kats!

(Meanwhile, Aladdin is soaking up damage in the background)

I'm interested in reading that. See- I'm bumping the thread for visibility and getting you closer to the next page simultaneously!

Swat Cats got so many saves on this page, but it's still in the ring, for sure.

And yeah, to heck with Aladdin at this stage in the game. It's lasted long enough.

Heh, I liked Aladdin. It expanded the universe very well. It added a lot of good interesting characters and villains.

But... I suppose when I look at the other Disney shows on the block, I'd have to give up Aladdin first.

I think we've entered that middling period of the vote where we're running out of bad shows and cutting the ones that just don't measure up to the rest, if that helps.

I agree with your feelings about Beavis and Butthead but how can you say Gargoyles is generic but SWAT Kats is "awesome". Gargoyles quotes Shakespeare and introduces characters from some of his plays and other mythology into their universe. Swat Kats has cat people fighting monsters with vehicles. I would say SWAT Kats is far more generic then Gargoyles and I am as unbiased as they come to Gargoyles, lol.

P.S. I love SWAT Kats as well, I just wouldn't say it's stories are deep compared to Gargoyles.

I know I'm skipping ahead here, but I have to ask based on your avatar: would you say Gargoyles is the #1 90s cartoon?
