Carrying on my Clara rant; hilarious how snubbed she was in that final scene! Just another indicator to me what a massive mistake it was introducing a brand new companion at such a pivotal stage in the show.

"First face I saw..."

*not even looking at Clara*

What a massive "Fuck you", I love it!

I...don't get this post? Why would he look at Clara when mentioning "the first face" he saw?

Yeah, Clara isn't quite Martha level of blandness but she is a bit... meh. Hopefully her and Capaldi will have better chemistry.

If they couldn't keep Amy and Rory around for the whole of Season 7 they should have kept them dumped at the end of the God Complex and had them only show up occasionally. Would have given the new companion a bit of time to grow.

Don't have a problem with Amy, hallucinations are an established part of regenerations as early as the second one. Thought it was lovely. Not as nice as the Rose before meeting him followed by the walk through the snow, though, IMO.

It won't last that long! If they all follow 'The Troughton Rule' or less (which I think they will), it'll be three years a Doctor or thereabouts... Hopefully we don't have another 15 year gap!

But that's assuming that the show is on a continuous run and doesn't have a long period of dormancy followed by a reboot. And sorry to say, at some point in this "cycle" that is very likely to happen.

Need some time to think it all through, but one thing's for damned sure- they knocked the final regeneration scene out of the park on every level. Totally.

Regarding that I think it's show 11 in a horrible light "shush girl I act like I like for 90% of the one until the girl you replaced turns up then I'm going to pay you the smallest of attention"

Much like 10 bringing Rose up while laying in bed with Martha"

Even if the show runs just as long as the classic series did, they'll likely do another 12 in that time, really. There's a faster turnover rate now. There'll never be another Tom who does it for 7 years, I don't think, and there'll probably be a few more Eccleston one series wonders.

I think the show is extremely safe, though. Ratings are strong. It'd have a long way to fall, and a lot of budget cuts, before they axe it. And as BBC Worldwide grows, Doctor Who and Top Gear seem to become more and more bulletproof, as they're big worldwide money makers.

Can really blame people the plot was a mess.

For some reason that no one mentions (I don't think) every one visits trenzalore.

Trenzalore gets a shield put around it and for some reason has a truth field.
Doctors gets to planet because he knows the people who lock it
On the planet he finally comes face to face with a crack that didn't close because ....
But the crack isn't causing harm this time for some reason so it's okay.
Crack has time lords behind it
Time lords are asking doctor who? to confirm its the right universe
Doctor won't answer because another Time war will start because once they figure out it is the right universe they will return
All the bad guys who are in space are trying to kill the doctor on the planet so he send Clara away
300 years later Clara comes back then gets sent back again but this time doctor has his tardis
Then the crazy monk woman flys the tardis back to get Clara so she can say bye to a dying doctor.
He goes to his death but then Clara tells the time lords in the wall crack it is the right universe and instead of coming back like they want they decide just giving the doctor some life will do? (Logic is lost on me here)
Big explosions
Some talking scene in which Amy shows up for some reason (doctor hallucinating?)
Bam capaldi

Lots of stuff makes little sense of gets too little exposition.

this has become sort of a trend for the show now, at least with the big event episodes penned by moffat. so much is thrown at you at such a fast pace but none of it really sticks. you hardly feel anything for the characters because we're either told about their development off screen, or moffat assumes we know them. hardly any of it is actually shown to us(e.g., the cyberman head in this episode)

crucial plot devices or elements are often established right before they come into use, then discarded episode by episode. makes the world feel like it just has no rules, and thus it becomes harder to establish any real tension or stakes. timey-wimey is fine, the show has 60 years of history it has to deal with, but it should be used sparingly. moffat tends to go overboard.

Barring premature death, we'll likely actually be around for the 100th too. Which is pretty crazy. Can't wait to bitch incessantly at the cold, detached NuNu-Who that lacks emotion.

My SO texted me saying it was crap and I replied "At least he didn't whine like a bitch about not wanting to go." I am not popular. Some wounds are 4 years deep...

What were people expecting then? The Doctor Who Christmas specials usually suffer from worse writing than the main episodes.
Competent story telling and promised pay off's to multi season long arc's.

Disappointment is what I got. I'm just looking forward to next season where we can leave these overly long worthless plot threads in the dust and have a actor that can deliver with gravitas.

I enjoyed it, nice to see Moffat just wrap up a bunch of stuff and hopefully the new Doctor can get a fresh start and the show can be good again. Also no River so already one of the best Moffat episodes by default

When was it bad and when it was the last time it was good for you?

I enjoyed the episode. The 50th was better but the ending of this Christmas was done very well.

I just slowly stopped caring throughout Moffat's run, honestly if you want an episode I don't like generally just pick any River Song episode

Brilliant episode, still a bit shell shocked to be honest.

So much better than The End of Time. This felt more like a celebration of the best of the Eleventh Doctor and Matt Smith in comparison to the End of Time, which felt like a slideshow of Tenth's worst moments (Dat Whining)

Hmmmmmmmmmm

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Not entirely sure what to make of that

I'm really gonna fuckin miss Eleven though

This was basically my second episode of the show after the anniversary special and yikes, I don't even know what to say. Is the show usually like this?

Well Moffat only has one more loose end left to clear up and that's the doctor's adventure with
Lorna Bucket
.

There's one other most people here will hate:
in the Name of the Doctor the post Library River sticks around after Clara, who she was mentally linked with, is gone. When the Doctor asks why she says 'spoilers'.

Apparently a dissenting opinion around these parts but I loved it.

I totally appreciate people's complaints about the story. It was basically just a backdrop to 'The Matt Smith Hour'. But boy, what an hour. Such a varied, emotional, fantastic performance that summed up everything I loved about the character. The resolutions were nice and will probably satiate people for a bit, but I've never really been too concerned with answering 'questions' mainly because the answer will never ever be satisfying. I do like the idea of the Silence being manufactured as clergy so that people are more likely to repeatedly confess though.

But, yeah, by and far the best thing about the episode was Matt, which is as it should be. Such wonderful little moments. His interactions with the children were heartwarming. And I think my favourite moment of the episode, if not his entire run, was the tiny little piece between him and Clara when he's really old. She hands him the cracker but he's too weak to pull it so she holds his hand and helps him. Im sure you could draw any number of analogies for how companions help the Doctor when he's too blind to see that he needs help but...whatever, it was fantastically played.

I love that he gets rid of the bowtie and within an instant Capaldi's staring you down with little to no fanfare. Just an episode that's full of pleasant little moments even if the plot leaves something to be desired. And what a fitting end that the youngest Doctor dies of old age.

Yeah well hmm you see time stuff and well seasons also River in Library skeleton backwards spoilers and then Amy but before that there was a war and a giant Tardis but Clara and then an evil intelligence also snow but luckily that all got sorted however Silents and stuff. Let's not forget cracks and Roman boyfriends also the universe exploded but it's okay now because something Blue.

That was all I loved about Doctor Who. It was bombastic, convoluted and messy at times. But I was thoroughly entertained throughout it all. Credit to Moffat and Smith for a great episode and three series worth of quality.

I loved the episode myself. It won't be one of my favorites but it's up there; it had his problems for sure but it truly did entail the spirit of Matt's run and his regeneration is my favorite of them all.

(And I've gotta say I liked it way more than The End of Time but I wasn't fond of that one in the first place so yeah.)

Just finished it. The middle dragged and they could have done more with the alliance between the Doctor and the Silence, but it felt like an appropriate celebration for the 11th. Capaldi is going to be so good.

I did like the overlong explanation about Trenzalore/The Question that must not be answered.

Kind of a wonky middle bit, around that 2nd trip home for Clara and how she gets back. A bit of Paradox, with the Church/Silence blowing up the Tardis to prevent the Doctor from answering the signal from the Crack, when it's the Tardis exploding that created the cracks in the 1st place, unless the Crack on Trenzalore is just another "Crack"

I wonder if the storyline of Calpadi's Doctor, will start off with him not knowing much about anything (see: not knowing how to fly the Tardis). He'll have to lean on the "All Doctor Saving" Impossible Girl, to fill him in on things.
