Doctor Who: Time Of The Doctor |OT| 11's hour is over now... The clock is striking 12

Finally caught up with season seven this month ready for tomorrow, just finished off with the last two tonight. The Name of the Doctor in particular was pretty disappointing, lots of arm waving and not much else, didn't really have the epic impact of other finales. Still, enjoyable enough and Clara is just lovely to watch so it's not exactly time wasted.

I think Name is my favorite of the Moffat finales. Great concepts that were actually pulled off well, some very nice emotional beats, neat (if shitty looking) fanservice, a couple lovely pieces of music, and dat Hurt ending.

I enjoyed the Pandorica two-parter too but it gets a little convoluted in the back half and breaks down into the "explain the plot at every turn" style of writing that took over Wedding of River Song. The ending of The Pandorica Opens still gives me chills though.

Nope, gotta say the Series 5 two-parter is my favorite finale. Name felt way too hammy for me and the Wedding of River Song was relatively a mess.

My first "live" regeneration. I'm not ready. :(
Yeah, same for me. I started watching (with the 9th) after Smith had already taken over. Kind of a big deal.

In fact, I'm not sure how my goddaughter's going to take this (she's 7), she really likes the 11th, and I don't think they know what's coming (they don't keep up with the news). I did get her one of those Make-Your-Own Sonic Screwdriver sets for Christmas, though. :)

Your avatar is making me wonder, if hyper-aged David Tennant looks like Dobby, then would hyper-aged Matt Smith look like Carl Frederickson?

Looking forward to the Christmas episode. It's sad to see a Doctor or Companion go, but at the same time it's exciting and really keeps the show fresh.

I believe that was the first publicity shot after he was announced as the Doctor, and clearly before any costume was decided on.

Yeah I remember hating the way he looked when BBC first published that photo. It's not a really great one, especially since he doesn't have his costume.

Well, less than 11 hours left to the final chapther of Smith tenure... (It's 3AM in Colombia)... XD.. for me, is the third regeneneration episode (every regen episode is so sad), it was difficult for me maintaining spoiler free but I hope enjoy this chapter without knowing parts of dialog/scenes/etc.

End of an era today!

Was there a press photo like this for Capaldi? This was before Matt's appearance on the show, there should be something with Capaldi posing with the Tardis by now, right?

Goodbye my sweet Matt Smith, you've earned yourself a spot in my top 3 Doctors with Troughton and McCoy. I bid you all a good night and shall see you all in a post Matt Smith world.

I started with Rose about 2 years ago, Smith was already doing his thing by then. Everyone I knew hated him because they all still loved Tennant so much (who doesn't??), so I came in with low expectations of #11.

While I certainly adore what Eccleston and Tennant did with the role, I think Smith has done an amazing job as The Doctor and I'm sad to see him go.

But I guess it's better to go out on top, and I'm very excited to see what
Torchwood's loveliest political genius, John Frobisher :-P
brings to the role. Seeing an old guy act young after a young guy who acts old should be interesting!

So I'm headed to the grandparents' tonight and they get most channels so I'm hoping they get BBC America. If they don't, will they re air the special tomorrow or sometime? Or can I watch online?

I know Doctor Who usually secures the ratings top spot over Christmas, but I get the feeling this is going to be rated higher than usual. I have no idea why, but I can imagine a lot of non-fans tuning in to see Capaldi's first appearance. I can imagine a lot of older people who are more familiar with The Thick of It tuning into something they assume is kiddy to get their Capaldi fix.

Not live but I imagine it will be available on iPlayer immediately after.

If you're non-UK, you can use a VPN to watch it.

The iPlayer on PC and certain devices (iOS, for instance) supports playback of live channels now. I'm probably gonna watch it on my iPad as relatives will want to watch something else. Just a heads up!

This would probably work with proxies etc too.

In fairness, Doctor Who has never 'won' the Christmas top spot - even Voyage of the Damned, the highest rated episode of new Who and the highest rated episode period since the 70s (13.8m) fell to Eastenders and ended up in 2nd.

I expect this to get A Christmas Carol numbers, though, like 12m. Which would be lovely. Smith & Capaldi both deserve it. I reckon 2nd or 3rd for the day.

Oh, and, Merry Christmas, WhoGAF. Posting from my phone in a post-Christmas-dinner haze!

Parting of the Ways is awesome. Shut your mouth.

Is this thread safe during/after the UK premiere? It comes on at 9:00 EST in the colonies.

The rule we generally follow is spoilers are fair game after the episode has aired, regardless of where, so I'd stay away between 3 hours from now and your local airtime.

Parting of the Ways is the best finale.

Check the post I was quoting, RTD era has highs that have yet to be hit be S5-
I think The Big Bang is best finale. S5 is one of the finest pieces of television, though I think the dinosaur two-parter and some of the one-offs can be thrown out (but other than that, you have The Eleventh Hour, Amy's Choice, Van Gogh, and the Pandorica two-parter.)

But PotW is still great and it makes up for the initial slowness of Nine's run.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Said it before but I'm really going to miss Matt, I wasn't so keen on him at first but he's one of my absolute favourite Doctors now. Really looking forward to Capaldi.

Finale Tier list TPOTW > TBB > Doomsday > Journey's End > TNOTD > TWORS > LOTTL

That being said I do like Utopia and The Sound of Drums, so on balance I prefer S3 to S6 for like 90% of the way.

I am not going to be able to watch live, got a Christmas thing to go to tonight (gah). Eeeeee I can't wait. At least I will be able to cry myself to sleep after if needed (Oh god, it's going to be needed)

I am not ready to lose Eleven noooooo
