Firesprite: Sony’s Studio Liverpool Lives Again

Oh don't toy with my emotions!

CURLY SAYS GO

edit - oh god even their logo looks like a Wipeout team

Oh man, awesome. I'm assuming they're still based in Liverpool, always like to keep an eye out for UK studios, particularly the North West ones (aren't the Drive Club guys from Cheshire?).

Maybe I'm missing something here but: how could a team of 20 people make an Wipeout game? In addition to that if Sony wanted to make a Wipeout game wouldn't it have been easier to just keep the actual Studio Liverpool around?

why would they go back to making wipeout, when the their studio was closed partly due to it not being that big of a seller. its going to be a new ip.

Explains awesome Playroom robot designs maybe? The game is perhaps the best functioning AR game I've ever seen. Lots of fun for kids.

Liverpool is back!?

Give it a page or two. Reality will set in.

It's not Wipeout guys xD They pretty much confirm it isn't even PS exclusive. Though, I wouldn't be again one of Sony's trademark 3 game contracts. I want those to become prevalent considering how they gave rise to ThatGameCompany and Giant Sparrow is giving off those vibes really hardcore.

Apparently Sony Liverpool had a Wipeout and stealth game pretty far into development when they were axed. Would be great if one or both of those could return via Firesprite.

Anyway, good luck new studio, I loved Psygnosis, Sony Liverpool and hopefully you guys too down the line.

They are an independent studio, not own by Sony.

The game could be PC exclusive for all we know. I wouldn't mind that at all. A spiritual successor to Wipeout combined with the PC modding community would be amazing.

Hype goes up but after reading it I now think Wipeout will return, with a different name (Wipeout name is owned by Sony) and on iOS and Android. Hype goes down.

Yeah you'd think a Playstation platform would be the last thing they'd want to develop on.
Eh, work is work, especially when you're trying to rebuild.

But yeah, they shouldn't put much faith in sticking too close (or exclusive) to Sony.

Depending on what capacity these "remnants" are, they could Kickstart a Wipeout-like game as an independent developer for as many platforms as they can sign on for.
