VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

It really needs to continue evolving.

LCD is difficult to beat simply because most people don't give a shit. To them, it's "good enough". The market for high end video equipment is gone, unfortunately.

Yeah, and I don't blame Sony for the change. OLED is not necessary to the success and vision of Vita, just like Backwards Compatibilty and PS3. It was always going to be the first thing dropped if Vita remained too expensive to break out in the market. Sony needs to do all they can to reinvigorate the system and while I don't like it, losing OLED was a smart move because it's one of the easiest ways for them to reduce cost without crippling the system or splitting the userbase.

Just a shame, I think the problems with OLED on VIta were overstated (never had any burn-in or colour issues, neither has anyone I know with a Vita) and it really is a big beautiful screen, I'm sad more people won't get to experience it.

Nice to see. The colours are cool, and the storage space is laughable but better than nothing, but the lack of OLED sucks.

Really glad I bought a nearly perfect Vita for $200 even a few months ago. Now we obviously just need some better pricing on the memory cards.

Okay who can predict which website and when said website gets their first hands on impression of this new LCD screen?

I'm buying an OLED oldy if theyre saying this LCD can't compete.

What are their phones? There is a vast difference between LCD screens, which is what accounts for the varying opinions in this thread. I'd love to see that image compared side by side on a Vita and an HTC One for example.

I haven't tried it on the HTC one, but I know my friends iPhone5 gets beat down pretty badly :( And as I mentioned, that's just from a picture quality standpoint, not even getting into black levels and or refresh rates. LCD really is pretty sad in comparison, especially for this particular medium, one that can take advantage of color and contrast amazingly well.

Just because it's LCD doesn't automatically make it inferior, though it's likely that it was the result of cost-cutting. I'll be interested to see how the new display performs and looks.

some of best screen on phones are not oled. the lcd on the htc-one is awesome.
Phones are not primarily gaming devices. There is some discussion to be had over screen technologies for general use (though I'd still give the nod to OLED), but there is absolutely no doubt that OLED is superior for gaming.

yeah, i believe the refresh on oled is definitely better....

Well if your talking about an equal cost quality, I'd say it's still unfavorable. Pound for Pound OLED will hit harder than LCD, now if your reducing the cost of the system, and hoping for an even cheaper display, it won't bode well. I agree that the majority of people out there won't know or care, but that's only because they're used to crap display tech.

A pity, but I guess OLED tech simply didn't become the runaway hit Sony needed in order to bring production costs down to a manageable level. Thus becoming the first component to go due to lack of purchase price flexibility.

Yup, when the Vita was announced, general thinking was that OLED would become the standard for mobile devices. It didn't. Barely anyone uses it except for Samsung.

Well, I guess there's no meaningful upgrade to found in here.

What I don't like about Vita's screen is how noticeable are finger prints on it. On my iPad mini or OG Note, I don't mind them much, But on my Vita, shits sucks and developers and Vita's own UI forcing me to touch the screen infuriates me. But I guess this is cause the cheap coating rather than the screen tech, or I'm wrong?

Maybe a really stupid question, but has there been any mention as to whether or not it'll be Sony's Triluminous displays? I could see that maybe not being so bad lol.

No one here ever seen Sony Triluminos display?

I'm looking forward to not having that OLED stain.

When does this come out for NA?

EDIT: never mind. Just got schooled on this.

Yeah, gotta say that the HTC has the far more natural picture. That widened "color room" is a disease which they introduced with their bravais. Good thing though: on the TV you could just turn it off for a normla, natural picture which doesn't look disney world.

third picture had a purple sky on HTC one... so yeah more natural....

It probably won't be any old LCD, the HTC One has Super LCD3 and that screen is no slouch. OLED is nice but it has much lower screen life, is prone to burn in too. Even with LCD I bet Sony will put in Bravia Engine, X-Reality and Triluminous technology into it, like they've been doing with their phones lately, getting tech from their TV's.

I think this looks competent and other than the OLED downgrade I don't see a problem as long as the native resolution is retained. The PS/Star/Select buttons are greatly improved though as I hate the way they are recessed and small now. I'm used to it but it needed the improvement.

Was it stated if the new LCD screen uses triluminos tech?

Either way this new Vita should be much better in daylight.

It doesn't look that much thinner. Will wait to see what the screen looks like and if battery life is really a step up.

Was it my ears, or did the translator state the screen is an HD LCD display, in the video?

If so - why is everyone ignoring that?

HD.

Are we talking about the "stain" on the black levels? Which even at the lightest are still darker than the darkest lcd's? Or are we talking about something else?

I'm talking about when the screen goes black in a game, there's a big stain on the screen.

Are these going to be present on the new LCD vita?

someone should tweet yosp about this.

I'm disappointed by the lack of HDMI out. I suspect a slimmer body will actually be less ergonomic (similar to PSP-1000 vs 2000/3000), and the current model already cramps my hands after half an hour of play...
