Seeing GTA4 at 98 on Metacritic makes me physically sick, but I have high hopes for GTA5 as it looks like it may actually be fun rather than trying to be super serious.

Same here, the douchebags costing it the extra 2 points it deserves should be drawn and quartered.

Still can't believe Rockstar are releasing a gameplay video on a GTA game, anyone know when the last time they did this was?
Basically never. They've all been stylistic trailers (basically gameplay mixed with cutscenes, except the gameplay is shown from a non-playable camera angle and the entire HUD is removed).

Would be really awesome if it's straight up just gameplay. Mostly want to see the performance :/

Hey Glam, we have the same timezone.

At this time of the day neoGAF is mostly euroGAF. So with the exception of these weird island-people we should all be in the same timezone.

Yeah, pretty neat. That news still has me feeling down, just felt like I had to put something in my avatar. Would have never expected an "internet personality" to affect me like that, but what are ya gonna do. Been listening to Jeff and Ryan in one form or another for the past 7-8 years, so for one of them to be suddenly gone is pretty jarring. [/offtopic]

Yeah, same. I slept really bad. My weekly (or daily) routine will not be the same from now on... /offtopic

You vs. Me - who will be the first with the thread for the vid? We're taking bets.

Maybe it deserved those scores, maybe it didn't. I know it's one of those games that GAF loves to hate.

But it continues to remain high on Major Nelson's UU Top 20 list and is the only 2008 game on there. I don't think there's even a 2009 title on there. I wish I knew of a way to see how it measures on PC and PS3.

Because from what I can tell from sales and XBL ranking, it stands above most games.

IV's story would have been completely fine, it had zany missions like kidnapping that crazy girl. The problem is that there wasn't anything TO DO in between missions. Coming from previous GTA's, Saints Row, and Just Cause 2, I just felt really limited.

The previous GTA's seemed to have the serious undertone and yelling and car chases, but then the latter ones were broken up with planes, parachuting, dirt biking to base jumping, etc ... I loved GTA IV, got all the expansions and loved them too ... but the world itself felt too limiting. Going crazy in the city was always the same thing. After SA and JC2 I was used to scenery changes, meta games within the game and such.

I don't understand how people can say GTA IV was 'super serious' ... it wasn't. But I can understand the lack of 'going crazy' because in the end, you were left with a really big unvaried sandbox, but very few toys to play with. I felt myself just going from mission to mission hoping 'something crazy' would open up or I would discover a non-city part of the map to really explore.

GTA V seems to change all that. My favorite thing was jumping on a dirt bike and driving to the top of the mountain, just the long expanses of driving where it seemed like I was travelling 'soo far' within the game.

1 Hour, 31 Minutes.

Never seen keyboard porn before.

I could be wrong, but it seemed to me like the disappointment came mostly from the fact that they scaled down after GTA:SA.

How much longer until I can see the shooty shooty bang bang drivey drivey footage?

Edit: Okay, I saw 1h30mins

Exactly my sentiments.

Nope, you're right. Basically that's the TL;DR of my post, haha. They just took much away in order to create a really awesome city .... that had no variety. I mean, they were scaled excellently but the helicopter's weren't that fun (IMO) as a travel choice so a lot of the 'upper' city which is a main part of NY, the grand vistas, were lost while concentrating on what was in front of you. The best part about SA was driving to one of the major sections and seeing the horizon (pop in, lol) show up and you could take in the scenery change and such. You felt a transition going from area to area, like you really could go and do anything.

I completely agree though, if SA did not exist I think IV would have been more widely accepted. Our hopes were set pretty high.

But I always felt that they did GTA III (city), Vice City (period piece), and San Andreas (huge open area) and that kind of mirrored what they did this generation with GTA IV (city), RDR (period piece), and now V (huge open area).

This is my first console GTA, what do I expect?

Depending who you ask, it may be unplayable due to bad shadows and terrible IQ.

Huh. Never noticed that. Nice eyes, dude.

Sounds like fun.

What's with the fps issues?

GTA IV had some. More apparent on PS3 than on 360. GTA V looks like a little step above in terms of visuals. So expect something around the same performance of GTA IV.

By the way, do we know how big the map in GTA V is going to be?

Just re-watched the 3 character trailers. So damn pumped. I honestly don't know who I want to play as first.

The countryside has me worried.

SA had 3 main attractions and a couple of side shows.
The terrain was vast but could be driven on, over, and around in virtually any manor possible.

This looks far less accessible/open and there seem to be less POIs too.
