Maybe? I honestly have no idea either. I'd guess Rockstar must have had some reason for them being unskippable beyond just being proud of their work or, I don't know, forgetting to flip the 'make them skippable' switch. I don't think any of their previous games had unskippable cutscenes.

I can't think of any of the top my head. Anyway, screw it: GTA V Trailer incoming! :P

You know what I would like to see? Being able to run around in multiplayer using dual pistols and firing exclusively from the hip, like a proverbial Boss; a John Woo inspired Boss. It would make all those hours in Max Payne 3's multiplayer pay off. :)

I didn't play Max Payne, why did the cutscenes ruin it?

You can't skip them which annoyed people in their second playthrough, unless you hate game storys or Max Payne or something, I don't really see how it could ruin your first playthrough but other playthroughs and also the two arcade modes for some reason have cutscenes in them which means you can't play them without starting to get pissed off.

Not only you can't skip them, but they're also quite long and every two steps.

Need to open a door = Cutscene.
Go down the stairs = Cutscene.
And on and on..

In the first few chapters I thought that was an issue but as it got on and especially in the second half of the game there were way fewer cutscenes IMO.

That is a bit of an exaggeration. There are 1 to 3 unskippable cutscenes per level at most, and they usually divide big scene changes. For example, there is one unskippable cutscene in the middle of Club Moderno, between the interior and the rooftop helicopter chase. The rest are extremely short and entirely skippable.

Agreed.
I think after the Stadium chapter, infact, it gets better and better.

The first chapters are particularly guilty, and it's were most people get pissed off.

The Stadium chapter is the worst. I have near limitless patience with games, this one in particular, but that even pushed my buttons :) I think they've since patched that middle cutscene before you go up to the first sniper nest, so it is skippable halfway through.

There is a part in Max Payne 3 where, no joke

cutscene, Max tells the tech guy that there's bad guys coming in
bad guys come in. you shoot them
cutscene max tells the tech guy to run accross.

There was no reason he couldn't have just yelled, in game, 'Move!' they had to make it a fucking cutscene.

Branco HQ? Both skippable. The one in the boardroom beforehand isn't though :)

Most are eventually skippable, once the loading is done. Fuck it, though: GTAV gameplay incoming!

Seeing GTA4 at 98 on Metacritic makes me physically sick, but I have high hopes for GTA5 as it looks like it may actually be fun rather than trying to be super serious.

Yeah, I didn't really have a problem with them to be honest.

But I understand why they got on some people's nerves. Lots of story breaking up the action when you could have easily just had the characters talking without taking away control. Like when they would open a door or go up a ladder or something. Leave some of the cutscenes obviously, but a lot of the smaller ones peppered throughout the levels could have been cut.

Do we even have an official listing of all the radio stations? Pretty sure we at least had names/genres by this point with 4.

Genetically super serious, baby! :)

Whoa, that's crazy. Further proof that sites like metacritic are worth nothing. And review scores in general.

I don't know about you guys, but I had tons of fun with GTA 4.

And I'm far from the only one going by the sales numbers.

Nah, nothing. Just the Nightride FM rumour.

We know Radar Love by Golden Earring is in the game, and presumably the trailer songs, but I believe that's it.

People considered GTA IV 'super serious' ? lol
There were some really dark moments on the story side, but the goofy, prodding vibe definitely still rang through most of it. GTAV clearly won't be in the same league of silly as SRIV, mind. What a crazy-looking game..

I think we can all agree it was more serious than previous games but standing on its own, it wasn't exactly serious and it definitely wasn't super serious. They did have some darker moments but overall the characters and regular GTA stuff took center stage.

Oh and are the 2 hours up? Is the footage here?

I never found IV to be as serious as its detractors always claim, but it did feel like a slight shift from the PS2 trilogy.

I think V will find a good balance between the current gen and PS2 era games. More fun and lightheared than IV, but not totally off the rails.

Yeah, pretty neat. That news still has me feeling down, just felt like I had to put something in my avatar. Would have never expected an "internet personality" to affect me like that, but what are ya gonna do. Been listening to Jeff and Ryan in one form or another for the past 7-8 years, so for one of them to be suddenly gone is pretty jarring. [/offtopic]

Still can't believe Rockstar are releasing a gameplay video on a GTA game, anyone know when the last time they did this was?

Yeah, exactly. I thought those darker moments were handled well too, even with the talked-of 'ludonarrative dissonance' of it all.
