I want to see somebody running around, because holy fuck was movement of everything GTA4 awful. This might be the first GTA that actually PLAYS well, from the movement, to the combat, the vehicles(with a proper camera angle that doesnt' fuck you over when you do a proper fast turn around a corner).

And for the love of all that is holy, do NOT make me mash a button to run. This is 2013. We have sprint buttons now.

its 1996. we have analog sticks now.

Yeah I have. It does look interesting, I just meant I'm hesitant to jump right in with this on day 1 because how I really did not like 4 at all.

I'll definitely be waiting for reviews from gaffers and actual regular people before I buy it.

I can respect it; I just think that Rockstar has shown, with San Andreas to be exact, that with seasoning they can put out an epic game to end a generation. GTA V is the culmination of GTA IV, the expansions, RDR and Max Payne 3 with added elements.

I think it was kinda the same with GTA 3. While that obviously gained a new crazy traction due to being the first 3D GTA, I still heard a lot of people not liking it all that much, lacking some fun etc. skip forward a few iterations and you had Vice City and SA . I'm confident GTA V is going to blow everyone away due to be an end of generation Rockstar product.

I'm most concerned with how it looks and runs on current-gen consoles for an open-world game. Everything else, such as story, gameplay, etc., I trust R* to deliver.

I want to be able to easily walk, so I hope tapping the run button still exists

It's hard to slowly walk toward the camera when you have to hold the joystick on halfway. Keeping button-tapping for sprinting is for the best, trust me

Agreed; we are probably in the minority but if they do change it I hope there is an option to still use it.

No, San Andreas really wasn't anything like Saints Row. Was it crazier than GTA4? Absolutely. But it didn't go completely insane like SR3. That's all those SA fans want from GTA5. And from what little we know it does seem like they're moving back in that direction, or at least it won't be as serious as GTA4 often tried to be.

Yep. The Saints Row series can crawl into a ditch and burn itself to ashes.

I could go both ways on this.

I also like the tapping x to run mechanic because it feels exhilirating like you're actually making an effort to escape and run fast.

Pushing the left stick all the way forward should allow you to at least move at a jogging pace or something haha, or maybe move that function to a shoulder button instead so you can still control the camera at the same time. Sure, the tap A or X to sprint should stay in, but jeez, having to hold down that button all the time to move faster than a snail's pace in GTA IV was pretty annoying to me.

The only thing that indicates that the gameplay video will indeed come with the interactive V website is that Rockstar hasn't added a placeholder for tmrws gameplay video - remember, they did this for all previous videos. I'm PRETTY sure the new website will go live tmrw - it would make perfect sense!

That's what I mean. GTA 4 was so conservative and serious in comparison to the previous games. I also don't like Saints Row. That's too crazy. All I want is to see some of the spirit of San Andreas in the new game.

I dunno, there was a lot of classic humour in the game. It was only the central story that had a dark edge, but tell me a GTA where the main character doesn't have a dark past of one kind or another?

Not counting the DLC, I wouldn't say any of these were particularly serious:

Right, which was why they used it. Running in a video game shouldn't be as easy as holding a button down, especially in a game like GTA V.

You should be able to run at your normal pace by just holding down a button, but you should be able to sprint if you spam x. RDR way is best IMO.

Hell yes. But has Rockstar always released gameplay videos since GTA 3? I've played 3, Vice City, San Andreas and IV but I'm not aware if they always released gameplay trailers.

I guess it wouldn't? Spreading stuff out makes more sense I think. We still have 70 days to go...

Sad thing is, they could show like a 2 second clip of a guy walking with the minimap on, then cut to "GTA V - Coming September 17th" and I'd still look like a guy that just took off in a convertible space rocket.

I think that would work fine.

No button press: walking
Button held: normal running (no/low energy expended)
Button tapped: full sprint (uses energy/character gets tired after a while)

No, this will be the first time they've done this. In past GTA's, we would get a few 1 to 3 seconds clips and that was all until release.

I still remember that original Saints Row 3 teaser, which consisted of a crotch punch.

So any ideas on why the sudden change?

Because they have a lot to show, and probably can't wait to show it?

To let people know it isn't being delayed?

To get positive press about gameplay (gunplay, driving) after GTA IV?

Probably something like that. It is a pertinent question, though.

Meh! Not getting hyped. I have a feeling we'll be debating what was actual gameplay. I'd rather individual 30 to 40 second clips of each character walking/driving or something.

snip photos of brucie, etc

Not counting the DLC, I wouldn't say any of these were particularly serious:

Those weren't serious characters, but you did not do anything that stretched the limits of an open world game with any of them. Brucie, for as over the top as his personality was, gave you nothing but car hijacking missions. The guy shooting the video in the ghetto gave you drive by missions.

The missions in GTAIV -- regular GTAIV (and even the DLCs, although I think the DLCs were better for being shorter) -- were very run of the mill. San Andreas, while sure it had some crazy stuff like gimp suit sex scene (which was still pretty much only a "follow" mission) and the Green Goo jetpack mission, had a lot more mission variety than IV. Crazy characters gave you some zany missions that were great (IE, Mike Toreno's hijacking a fighter jet and taking out spy boats) but not the complete insanity of SR3.
