Nintendo Downloads - June 2013

So I checked out the Urban Trial Freestyle 3DS trailer and it looks pretty good. I'm very confused at how this relates, if at all, to the Trials series. Clearly it looks like it does, but I don't see any dev connection or anything. I was a big fan of Trials HD on the 360 and would be interested in a similar experience on the go.

It's not from the Trials developers. It's a pretty shameless rip-off, though I think it's fun on the Vita. Certainly worth $5.59.

Spelunker is mine, love it to death. Urban Trial Freestyle looks pretty decent, I might consider it. Guys, is Sonic 2 for Game Gear much better than the first one? I want to buy one of them, but I'm not sure which one.

In case you missed it the PAL Balloon Fight update is a hackjob. PAL ROM running at 6/5 speed so music all high pitched.

People have been reporting that the demo for Fire Emblem: Awakening has been temporarily pulled down in EU. I have no idea what's up with this.
The eShop post says it was pulled on the 21st.

Edit: Also the eShop account history really needs better names for things. The MiiPlaza DLC is listed as MEET3 and for a few minutes had me confused.

Yeah, you're right. And come to think of it, I do remember talk of how the latest system update caused the demo to crash, as someone else here mentioned. Odd how it seems to be only affecting that particular demo.

Oh hey. Rhythm Thief just landed on the Japanese eShop. Wonder why Sega seems to be allergic to the NA eShop. RT could really use a digital release over here being that its impossible to find.

Crush3D needs a digital release too.

Oh, I didn't realize that since I got a bunch from the Ambassador program. Nintendo still hasn't released any others?

What... are they waiting for?

Its definitely coming for WiiU VC in the future. Nintendo hasn't said anything about 3DS VC though.

So...Urban Trial.

It's like Trials, but without the amazing physics of the XBLA game. It feels like it should feel like the same physics, until you play for a bit and deal with what should be the more nuanced stuff, like climbing steep inclines. In Urban, you simply push forward and hit the accelerator without ever having to worry about balancing yourself. It most plays itself. As long as you have acceleration on and your rider leaning forward, your bike will press forward without error. It's basically fail-safe, which really completely ruins the point of playing a game like this in the first place.

So yeah, if you appreciate the physics of Trials, Urban will likely disappoint you.

edit: Some other random thoughts...

- music is good
- graphics are really good
- tracks are interesting and diverse
- edit: actually, there's no real online leaderboards that you can check. It only displays the world's top score or the best top score of all your friends after you complete a track. Kinda lame.
- no multi-player, but you can race ghosts in time trial
- framerate is solid. feels like 30fps
- you can create custom tracks, but there's no way to share them

Could'a sworn Pilotwings was gonna be today. Oh well, looks like next week.

Is Mega Man X worth it? Never played it and I got a $5 coupon to use.

Waiting until they can get them running better and with the 3DS features people expect from something they buy in the eShop, probably.

Few weeks late, but I'm interested in trying out a Megaman Game.

In the few recent weeks, Nintendo has made many Megaman games easily available.

What is the best first impression I can get for the series?

Seeing people giving Mega Man a try makes me happy as it's my #1 favorite gaming franchise. Out of curiosity, was it the Smash Bros reveal that got you interested in Mega Man?

Start with Mega Man 2!

Any others? Nintendo still hasn't even released those games for us to buy yet. I'm honestly doubting we'll ever see the GBA on the 3DS VC, which is honestly one of the stupidest decisions Nintendo could make. I would honestly buy every single Ambassador program game, so why won't Nintendo let me give them my moneyyyyyyy?

I posted this in the eshop thread but decided to post this here as well:

Project Sweat- hand drawn 2D arpg with a Wii U stretch goal. Looks pretty cool, has my interest.

Influences:

The game mainly draws influence from the following titles

Ninja Gaiden: Black & Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (Combat system)
Suikoden 1-2 & Chrono Cross (RPG elements & customisability)

There are of course many other games from various other platforms and media such as 'Super Ghouls & Ghost' & 'Final Fight'. The art style is heavily influenced by Hyung Tae Kim, known for his works on 'Magna Carta' & 'Blade & Soul'.

What is Combat Like?

This is Not a game where you can mindlessly mash buttons to survive, the combat will be based on a high risk high reward formula. You will have 2 attack buttons; fast & strong. The enemies will charge at you from all directions and try to attack you from varying ranges in different styles & have resistance to specific attacks from certain angles; reactions really pay off to be the most effective killer. In a nutshell, the gameplay is what you will get if you were to put Ninja Gaiden: Black on a 2D plane.

I'm so close to my first $5 eShop credit. Just need to spend 4 more bucks on Wii U. Gimme a good VC game, Nintendo, hurry!

You just made me skip it :(

Kokuga made it to the Mexican eShop, yay! I'm probably grabbing it along with Spelunker.

I know this doesn't add much to the ongoing conversation on this thread, but I have to ask for advice...

I'm torn between picking up Runner 2 and Nano Assault Neo.

Which of the two is the best in their respective genres? Help me, GAF.

Personally I enjoyed Runner2 as a rhythm title a lot more than I enjoyed Nano Assault as a SHMUP. Nano Assault has some difficulty going for it but I think Runner2 would be more worth your cash.

Although...

Thanks! That's quite helpful.

I'm eventually purchasing both, but I've the money for only one of them right now.

Haven't played runner 2 but Nano Assault has been a huge surprise. It's really good for someone like me (I'm not a hardcore shmup fan, but I like starfox for example).

I just got the game and it's actually quite fun IMO and can still get pretty hard - although the physics aren't as complex as Trials I think it's still a worthwhile portable alternative.
It also looks really good for the 3DS, very detailed

If you liked the first Runner you'll like the second one plenty too. I sure did. Loved the second one. NaN is pretty good too. I'm very biased but I'd get Runner 2 first. Just the right difficulty, characters to unlock, awesome music, and you'll always be telling your self "just one more time!" ... and then an hour later you are still at it. Such a good game. Too stronk.
