Xbox-Skeptics: What Are Looking For Tomorrow?

Like some of you, over this generation I became disenchanted with the 360. I'm by and large anti-console war, and I am very lucky enough to own all three current... (sigh)... all four current gen consoles. Let me explain why.

I loved the 360 for a long time. The 360 is the console I played the most over this gen, but that was because it handled multiplatform games much better. It was my stalwart, my home base. I still buy 1-2 arcade games a month on there.
I loved most Kinect games I played While deeply aware of it's limitations, I'm a true believer in Dance Central - I think it's Harmonix's masterpiece next to Amplitude.
XBLA is super important to me. I like difficult, hardcore, fast action games of all genres - so XBLA is always going to be a go-to place for me.
Project Gotham oh my god. Namaste.

However, over time, I changed.

The cost, and nature of Xbox Live didn't work for me.Once PSN+ came along, I realised I don't play that many multiplayer games, and where I do play them, I can get by on the inferior PSN network (don't argue - I'm in Australia - it's inferior.) It felt like a burden to be a Silver member, rather than a bonus to be PSN+ member. PSN+ even encouraged me to get a Vita, which I don't regret for a second.
The exclusives that made sense for me dried up. I was struggling to get excited the last two E3s for the MS show, and consider that I'm a Kinect believer, that's tough going.
The lack of Japanese games is not okay, and not optional. It's just the way it is. I'm not into jRPGs as much as I am action-RPGs, small-to-medium strategy sounds.

So while I'll jump in at some point, I'm a skeptic tonight and I'm hoping for a few things tomorrow that will make me more likely to get one early.

So, Microsoft, I need some of these:

1. A genuine attempt to make several decent Kinect games across genres.
2. A broader range of exclusives / first party games.
3. An attempt to bring over some of my content from 360, esp XBLA games.
4. A new fucking d-pad. Just pay the man!
5. A better reason to pay a monthly fee than the current deal.
6. If its integrated with Windows, the only thing we care about is buy-once play-twice. That's all. Have that and we'll listen to whatever Windows 8 stupidity you like.

So, I guess if you're in the same skeptical position as me, list what you're hoping to see.

New games which are not shooters/dudebro games, some of which to not focus on Kinect2.

Xbox Live changes - in particular, prices.

Basic online features free (eg. Youtube, web browser, messaging friends, multiplayer), no always-online drm, kinect not required (or if it's required, allow it to work in smaller rooms like my gaming room), and games! Having Kinect 2.0 only work in big rooms would make me unable to use the console in my set up, meaning I'd never buy the console (despite owning and loving every Xbox so far).

I'm pretty much expecting to be disappointed. Would love to be proven wrong though.

You know...I think what I'd like is a Store where at least a portion of it worked like the Windows/Windows Phone stores with a purely software dev option. No requirement for hardware dev kit to test stuff. I guess this would be the replacement for XNA.

Otherwise I'd like them to be much less US centric. Project a philosophy of this being a world console platform. Not a US one with the rest of the world getting scraps.

There two things I want from them fellow GAFfer:

- Exclusive games. If you look at 2013 physical release exclusive titles for the 360 it's a complete Joke.

- More support for all Europe. Simple. Show us that Microsoft care.

Games!

A car sim is what I really want, something new and really well done.
A change in how XBL gold works.
They are going to need more first party games that I want to play to bring me back. Loved 360 at first, but then games just dried up.

I'm going to need a lot of fresh IP. The Halo/Gears/Forza/Fable routine really soured me on the 360 after it started off pretty well with Rare still making games, MS funding stuff like Blue Dragon and others, and just getting good varied content on there. Then MS killed all their first parties and entered into the endless cycle, oh and Kinect.

I dunno what MS can do to un-sour me really. Beyond XBLA titles (which of course are drying up due to that platform just dying a death) and Bayonetta replays, I don't use the damn thing even though it was the first console of this generation I jumped into excitedly.

Oh and the end of paywalled apps and peer to peer online gameplay.

A focus on GAMES, and not entertainment and lifestyle bullshit.

I'm seriously not expecting them to deliver.

Features are the most important thing they need to show off.

We can assume that there will be lots of games coming to the console, but why will my experience playing them be better on Xbox than PS4?

I want a strong games lineup with titles and solid release dates. New IPs, unexpected sequels. Maybe something completely shocking and great.

None of that WiiU bullshit of teasing you with a game that will either be released in 2015 or not at all.

I also want to see Molyneux stumble and fall off the stage, breaking a few bones. That'd be poetic justice.

16GB GDDDR6
Quad 7970
24 core 5.8GHZ cpu
windows 9
free online
4k oculus rift headset
nintendo exclusive support

This is not E3.

I want kinect to be optional or non existent. And some games that look good, basically I want the hungry ms that gives me loads of games not arrogant self congratulatory ms that drones on about Netflix and features that should be free/never come to England. Ps get off my lawn.

Free Online Play and I'm in.

Otherwise I'll continue to never having owned a Microsoft console.

Edit: I pay for PSN+, money is not the issue. Is knowing that if I ever want to cancel PSN+, I can still play my games online without a problem.

Something that shows they give a shit about territories outside of the United States. And less focus on gimmicky technology.

About 3 big "AAA" boxed exclusive games announced. A token XBLA game. If they have a big partnership with EA it will be announced tomorrow and then COD. Shorter time spent on games versus Sonys show but we should only slightly fewer games announced.

I expect big things on the gaming front form them. Plenty of "unprecedented partnerships"

what? "What Are Looking For Tomorrow?"

USA centric with all its services and really no reason for anyone outside of the USA to buy the machine.

And this.

* BC (I have not played through the 360 library yet, so this would be a massive incentive, it won't happen though.. because money),
* New I.P's, and actually tempting exclusives (not just tomorrow, but at E3 as well, and don't just talk about exclusive or timed DLC, it'll make me resent you, also if every exclusive announced is a gun-bro, I may just turn off),
* a focus on gaming, but supported by tempting convenience apps (not a focus on tempting convenience apps, supported by gaming),
* a confirmation of it not requiring always-online (not a sales pitch of why always-online is so awesome),
* announcement that they are actively working with Japanese publishers (truth be told, part of me thinks they won't even launch in japan this time around, but I love JPRGs so thisis a biggie),
* a competitive online subscription model to PS+, I'm not touching XBL Gold if it's the same business model this time around,
* a proper d-pad.

Anti-used games DRM, because I believe this industry needs the cleansing fire of another crash in order to start making halfway decent games again, and killing used games will inexorably send us down that path.

a return to the boldness of the early days of the 360 when they put out exciting new stuff like mass effect, crackdown, gears of war, lost odyssey, viva pinata + xbla stuff like geometry wars, braid, pac-man ce.

i really don't want to see them bringing the same few tired brands back again + call of duty exclusive dlc + kinect + multimedia stuff.

i'd also like to see them compete with the value of playstation plus. xbox live gold seems like such a joke by comparison.

Xbox use to be cool, it use to be cool to own a xbox, I feel with gamers xbox has turned into the opposite with the lack of games, focus on entertainment, kinect, and live becoming a glorified ad service. But saying that I feel that is what Microsoft is going to focus on. They just need to make me want to play games on their system vs others.

This. Japan gets a hard time because it failed for them so much, but it failed because of them. I'd give it a B for effort but a D for actual quality of that effort. They basically tried so they could say "we tried!"

They really don't give a shit about anyone except the States. AU have been shafted when it comes to Xbox live Gold content.

No pay to play online and I might consider it.
No matter what focus Microsoft wants it is the developers and in the end the consumer who decides what the focus will end upp being. That said not too much focus in Kinect would be nice.

Tomorrow basically I'm looking for barriers for games to be pushed back.
this console generation lasted too long.
no matter how good or not good the next box is, once this and ps4 are out,
ALL GAMERS will probably get better games sooner than later, no matter what platform.

if it happens to be a nice, powerful machine with some cool features, then the better for it.

Some interesting first party games; not Kinect focused of course.

Your avatar is awesome.

I'm not skeptic, i just want good games on a customer centric device, i hate forced things.
So my major attention tomorrow will be on what MS requires to let games be played on their system.
And hoping for higher specs than the rumored for the sake of 3rd party game development.

I've got a 360 and around 50 games, but haven't touched it in over a year. I'm bored of their exclusives and everything else has a better version on PC that is better and with free online.

I'd need original looking exclusive titles and free online. Nothing else will tempt me. I'm not hopeful.

As other have said, show me the games! I don't want Call of Dudebro 17: Judgement Online Battle or something dumb like that. Instead show me something new and exciting that doesn't necessarily use Kinect. I bought my 360 initially to play Amped and Kameo. Give me more "different" games like that and I'll be happy.
