Yeah Im not so sure. I personally think people are going to expect better than this for next-gen games. Putting this next to stuff like Killzone, Second Son, etc is only going to make it look that much worse in many peoples eyes. It also shows how far behind Japan Studio is Vs Sonys many other studiis from a tech standpoint.

Well it's not like SECJ going to give them even a quarter of the budget those games going to get .
But this looks good if it's real time compare to what we have now .

I just disagree. I doubt many people would consider Epic "behind" in technology, and their stylized next-gen game doesn't look much different.

Honestly, other than assets that perfectly represent the art style and pristine IQ, what would you want in a stylized next-gen game to make it look "more next-gen"? I can't think of anything except gimmicks such as Knack's particle stuff, which would feel forced when applied to often.

The baby did have the highest number right? And the numbers were always counting down.

Gives me hope that this will be something more than a simple hunting game. Especially with all th camera stuff and all

yeah, I think they assign a code to each person, it's shows the order in which they are born, numbers dropping means previous guys are gone, number never increases and that baby is 1,000,000 which looks like to be a significant incident.

Looks too story oriented to be a hunting game clone imo.

Nice surprise, it looks like a title which could have global appeal.
The art remids me of SMT and Persona games, it looks like a futuristic action RPG.
Can't wait to have more details also about the platforms. If it was a PS4 game the trailer could be realtime graphics.

I think that trailer was obviously (pretty bad) CG. It reminds me a bit of the CG style of the PSP remake of Persona 1 - kinda stylized and kinda clunky.
It's a reveal trailer though so its not surprising it's CG, we'll see gameplay and platform on the 21st.

Again, I don't see it. The assets and IQ in the trailer are both more or less perfect. What else would you expect from a next-gen stylized game? This reminds me of some people's negative reaction to Fortnite as an UE4 showcase.

I'm with you (except that I thought the art style of Fortnite was weak and that type of game is not a good engine showcase), but a lot of people are of the opinion that a game like this on PS4 brings shame to the system and the developers just by virtue of existing.

Killzone or bust I guess.

What I don't get is do people just not want this type of game for PS4? Or do they want the budget to be set at a ridiculous level that ensures the game is a financial disaster? Or I suppose do they just not think about how a game like this could feasibly exist?

To those people I ask: in your mind's eye what does the PS4 version of this game look like and how was it produced?

Personally if PS4 has high res, high IQ stylized games of this quality I'm much more excited by that than what I've seen so far.

yep if we seeing game play on 21st it's for Vita or PS3 or both and that was just CG.
Cause now way they going to show off a PS4 game just like that .

Wow, this actually looks like an incredibly interesting firstparty Sony-game for once. Definitely hyped!

Depends how packed E3 is going to be with PS4 reveals. And why not show PS4 gameplay on the 21st? Isn't that the day the next Xbox is revealed? Steal some thunder from that.

Glad that it's something other than a dudebro shooter.

Looks like each person has a predetermined set lifespan, will be interesting.

I just noticed that they do increase. The ones that get caught have this happen to them for some reason:

Why is it a tech issue and not a budget issue, or at least not both? It's highly unlikely that the budget for this is near KZ.

In movies a cheap movie can look pretty good and an expensive movie can look pretty bad, but I think it's generally accepted that more expensive movies tend to look better. Production costs money. But for some reason in games it's either incompetence or laziness that explains why one game doesn't look as good as another.

Japanese development has some issues but it's not technologically backwards. MT Framework is easily the most underrated engine - it certainly craps all over Source. Platnum's tech seems pretty good from what I can gather. What the Team Ico dudes did on PS2 is pretty amazing. It's not like these guys are doofuses.

Content costs money, code costs money. Technical prowess doesn't create content for you.

I just remembered this thread:

Probably a Vita game I think.

I think, no, I really hope this is for Vita. At least PS3/Vita crossplay or crossbuy.

I don't think this is a PS4 game; it doesn't really look like one.

It's not the day next Xbox is revealed,because May 21 10AM PST=May 22 2AM Japan time.

So i don't see it will effect anything(this game or new Xbox).

From what i can see this is a mix of SMT + cyberpunk concepts
And this looks like a PS4 game to me

The concept of remaining life isn't new haha... i saw a movie about it not so long ago

I seriously hope this isn't another hunting game.
I fervently hope so too, but I think the outlook on that is rather grim.

The most realistic (and least interesting for me) option is CG trailer for a Vita hunting game.

Trailer didn't really do anything for me except provide a little worry about the game's genre. Really hope it won't be another hunting action game.

I think Sony has that in the bag with Soul Sacrifice, so I wonder why they'd make another.

Then I remember that they have a bunch of studios making driving, third person and first person shooters at the same time. :-(

If this is real time graphics then it has to be PS4.

Tbh I'm more intrigues as to the setting and the numbers on top of everyone's head as soon as they are born.

The beginning scene seems to indicate that either the characters come from a normal earth like world or that the setting is Earth in the future. The guys outfit is one of a prisoners and goes with the name of the title: panopticon.

The Panopticon is a type of institutional building designed by English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late 18th century. The concept of the design is to allow a watchman to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) inmates of an institution without them being able to tell whether or not they are being watched.
The design consists of a circular structure with an “inspection house” at its centre, from which the managers or staff of the institution are able to watch the inmates, who are stationed around the perimeter. Bentham conceived the basic plan as being equally applicable to hospitals, schools, sanatoriums, daycares, and asylums, but he devoted most of his efforts to developing a design for a Panopticon prison, and it is his prison which is most widely understood by the term.
Bentham himself described the Panopticon as “a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example.”[1] Elsewhere, he described the Panopticon prison as “a mill for grinding rogues honest”.

The structures on the left look like prison cells and we do see several scenes were people are caught and arrested.

Here we see the girl is observing or keeping watch of the mc. This kind mimics a cctv like system and again ties with the theme of panopticism. In the next scene we see a cctv camera in London. Perhaps the girl is linked to the system and the subjects are chosen through the Earth like world.

Now the numbers on everyone's head. They seem to stay constant in the scene where it shows a crowd of people. We then see these guys with red eyes arrest a couple. If you look carefully you will see that the numbers of the couple are actually increasing. A reason for their capture? A capture based on the numbers increasing suggests the lower the number the better.

We then see the prisoners in front of some animal/mech and their numbers are all constant and <1 000 000. Why is 1 000 000 so important and shown as red when the baby is born?

Another thing is when the Mc saves the girl which seems to be an android, his number decreases. Does your number decrease when you do good things and increase when you commit crimes?

I 'm getting some pyscho pass vibes here.

Even in that case it still looks more RPG and story driven than the typical Monster Hunter/God Eater game and that's a good thing, a return to RPGs from Sony would be really cool for me.

Sure looks like a Vita game. SCEJ needs all it's resources to keep Vita being relevant in Japan. PS4 can take care by itself by it's third party devs and SCEE/SCEA.

In all seriousness, game looks neat, but I too hope to god this isn't another Monster Hunter/God Eater/Soul Sacrifice type of game. I've gotten real sick of these "group with buddies in small arenas and fight monster" games.

It's implied that the number can increase though.

An ARPG in that world would be absolutely fantastic. I'm kinda on board with everyone that does not want another MoHun clone though. That said; I loved everything about the trailer, including the art style and the music. Can't wait to see more about this thing.

You certainly aren't the only one. But the issue is that it doesn't seem like Japan has gotten sick of them yet.

I could see this as being a fantastic open world RPG, but sadly, it looks a lot more like it's going to be an open world action game, especially since the people shown all seem like templates rather than characters.

Looked a little toooooo much like God Eater at certain points. At least Soul Sacrifice has its own distinctive art groove, while this I'm not so sure of. Grappling vine hooks looked like the most interesting element.
