Starz had a special deal with Netflix, where Netflix would put up brand new episodes of Starz shows the day of (maybe even slightly before) the premiere date. Their deal expired a year+ ago though.
I was just reminiscing to the day when I first saw the show, the pilot. Fox was trumpeting their new show, and I guess we just hadn't turned off the TV after The Simpsons. It was weird, but funny.
I stuck it out for a few episodes and it was my favorite thing ever. Bringing Up Buster was the episode that truly sold it for me, after an uneven first ep. My family had to come into the room to ask what I was laughing so hard/often about. They got into it and it became the thing our family watched.
I remember being heartbroken at the cut order, then the miraculous third season.. that was then also cut down. I was begging everyone I could find to watch the show. I bought Season 1 as a gift over a dozen times, just handing it out like candy. Please, please watch this show.
When Fox cut the show, I was gutted. I vowed to never buy cable television from that day, and I never did. So it's such wonderful cosmic justice that it's coming to Netflix, which I do pay for and support wholeheartedly.
It was truly a show that was ahead of its time. And I guess now time has finally caught up with it, and everyone loves it It's so damn exciting.

...explain this line of action to me. why did a broadcast network fumbling a show make you hate cable television so much that you feel like it's being done "justice" (despite cable tv kind of thriving more than ever for the same reasons netflix is: tech advances and further audience fragmentation)
Or wait for the inevitable international announcement which will be used to draw more interest. I expect AD to launch in Canada and the UK at the same time.
If you're really intent on watching it, you could always sign up for the free trial under a VPN or something, as well as use unblock-us to make it available for you?
I'm not really sure like, I imagine with how successful this whole venture is going to be the episodes will possibly end up getting a DVD release.

Well, it's mostly the cost of paying for TV I mostly just didn't want to pay for television I didn't want. I just soured on how television is run at the time. I'm not saying it makes sense, :lol
You're right, though, there's a lot of fantastic TV out there right now, especially on cable. I'm fortunate that there are options outside of paying for cable to watch most of them though. And this was the ONE thing that might have made me consider paying for cable if it was one a cable network. But praise be, it's not
HURWITZ: There doesnt seem to be, although we do that internally. I have two daughters, so I found that I would just resist some of the more risque stuff we could do. That being said, 20th Century Fox owns the property and theyre going to try to have a life with this afterwards, so Im also being mindful of having an edit that they can use. Well have a clean version. There is nudity, from one of the principals. Thats a big teaser.
You mentioned that there will be nudity, but what about language and violence?
HURWITZ: Were still bleeping.
You are or they are?
HURWITZ: We are. Violence has not really been an issue. Even in my wildest hopes, I wasnt trying to get violence in.
A little more... all of the below is great so no bolding
With this delivery system, is it tempting to continue tinkering with the show, even after its on Netflix?
HURWITZ: You just solved all my problems because the post is really accelerated. Its a very accelerated post process, and Im worried about it. That being said, there will be a lot of material, which is way too long, that wont make it in.
DVDs have extras. Is there a way to do Netflix extras?
HURWITZ: I think there is. I hope to take advantage of the Netflix organism and see if there are ways to get in new material and see if there are ways to do deleted scenes.
Will you release this on DVD?
arrested developments season 1 dvd coverHURWITZ: I dont know the answer to that, but Im sure they have the ability to. Im sure theres a window. That would be my guess.
Although I cannot be certain, it does look like a new shot to me as I don't recall Tobias wearing the (discussion of the shot, I presume this has to be spoilertagged)
"Shemale" shirt or a cervical collar
the previous seasons (in saying that I've not watched the show in a while so I could be mistaken). As you say, the shot appears like it's been taken straight from the others which, if it is a new shot, makes me slightly more confident that it will manage to capture the look of the other seasons (something I doubted due to the large time span between its cancellation and now). I'm also pleased that the (reference to something in the shot)
"shemale" shirt
is making another appearance as hopefully it's an indication that they're going to continue the amount of references, call-backs and hidden jokes that were in the older episodes.
EDIT: Actually, is that (referring to the location)

She looks more like her old self (minus the hair and plus some years) in that picture than she did in that magazine photo. A bad angle contributed to that, I think.
I was skeptical about all the eps dropping at once, but that quote from Hurwitz made me a lot more excited and changed my mind completely. This is going to be brilliant.
On a side note, those guys making the fan documentary totally dropped the ball, the show's going to premiere before it does.
