Halo 4 leaked?

uh, no. that halo 3 pic was simply a horrible moment to take a screenshot, direct feed or otherwise.

Plus, it's plagued by nasty compression making it look even worse. Some parts of Halo 3 look great in motion. I'm a big fan of Tsavo Highway - looks great on my 55".

are u kidding me? youre comparing two very different styles. if anything, the killzone one is more realistic!

Yeah, I have to disagree with that.

Just a gorgeous game.

It's the facial expressions actually. The one on top is more stiff...

The Uncharted series is a better comparison... But it's not a FPS.

I wish the game had better AF on top of the AA it's using

It would look so stupidly good :(

Yeah, that's one of my main beefs with Halo 4's visuals, the filtering could use improving. =/

Well...

...Yikes.

The compression artifacts in that image make it look worse than it does during the gameplay. Your point still stands though IMO and it's a nice leap.

Framerate looks really solid in these videos, no dips at all.

There seemed to be a dip in the most recent MP vidoc and it seemed pretty bad. Hopefully that was an issue with the capturing and not the game itself.

Good catch, I forgot about multiplayer.

But then again, there's less going on in multiplayer, and spaces are more confined.

I could be wrong but MP may be more taxing due to the unpredictable nature of MP.

I mean seriously, look at the character models and animations in comparison to Killzone 3

They seriously found some extra juice in the 360 that I did not think it had left.[/QUOTE]

Please can we not do any comparisons? Both games look great and make sacrifices in different areas. Halo 4 does some things better while KZ3 does some other things better.

Bringing up comparisons usually does not end well with people of multiple preferences weighing in their opinions.

It no doubt looks great, but I think it is more stiff. Halo 4 has better lighting and animations, imo. It actually is just a better looking and flowing game on the whole based on the footage I saw. I love Killzone 3, but it was pretty ugly in some spots.

are you seriously comparing a gif running at 8fps to one running 30fps?

Here's some up close facial work

Either way, H4 is looking good. It's to be expected though as Anniversary looked nice as well.

I was not trying to start a war, lol. I am just really impressed with Halo 4 and used Killzone 3 as a reference, because it also has very impressive looking character models. But even the gifs do not do the footage I watched yesterday justice. The game just looks flat out super good.

The facial animations are stiffer in the Killzone gif. It's also an older game. What bothers me most about the Killzone gif compared to the Halo one is the dead eyes. I hate that. EA sports games also feature great animations but the actual players have scary, dead eyes. Halo 4's don't, which is a good thing. It's a tiny, insignificant concern of mine. Ultimately what matters is the gameplay. Old Halos weren't beautiful or as good looking as Killzone, but the gameplay decimated Killzone, and that's all that matters to me. Halo 4's obviously one of the best looking games this gen, but how well does it play? In one of the videos I watched over the weekend the enemy AI looked really really bad. Standing-around-doing-nothing-in-a-firefight bad. Difficulty may have been set to Easy for all I know though.

Eh, not impressed.
Sure, they look nice, but I'm not seeing the amazing foliage and PC-level graphics that people are being wowed by.
It does look better then the previous games in the series for sure, but the artistic design is the star here, at least to me.

Halo Prime indeed.

EDIT: Well, this is why you refresh before you post. Those gifs look better then what I've seen so far.

It was almost certainly set to Easy.

Anyway, people not convinced should watch this Xplay preview (location/minor plot spoilers).

Most of the leaked gameplay I've seen is on easy difficulty.

I've only seen one on normal.

That latest multiplayer Vidoc made me very happy. The focus on making levels built for vehicles is a huge plus for me. I'm part of the audience that hates player v. player with just running and guns. Gimme a warthog with a loud horn any day of the week. I can annoy more people that way. Brrrrrrrrmm Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm

Xbox 360 = 2005 hardware.

I have a PC from 2005. It couldn't come close to doing what they're pulling out of the 360 lately. Halo 4 and Forza Horizons are just amazing.

Which should be the point. The way Halo 4 looks running on 2005 hardware is pretty damn incredible. It's enough to make me regret selling my 360 and I may just end up with the $250.00 holiday bundle and a Halo 4 pre-order before the day is over.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate you were trying to start any war, I just recall another poster making some kind of comparison earlier in this thread and found it unnecessary.

Showing the animation from prior Halo games would probably be a more accurate, and less controversial, comparison. =)

Nothing wrong with Killzone 3's facial animations. But the quality in Halo 4 is closer to Naughty Dog's work. Or Quantic Dream.

It's easily up there with ND's and QD's work IMO.

Corrine's already looking for improvements to it too, this twitter quote is from B3D. I really should check twitter more often as I follow Corrine and always enjoy her tweets.

"I am tempted to rewrite facial animation solver as computing all covariance in bignum arithmetic as covariance is big decrease in precision."

If you can wait until the end of next month, you can probably find a great deal on black Friday.

Well here's H4 running at the same frame rate

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

I like how he says there are no plot spoilers and then immediately goes on to spoil a vehicle and a campaign plot point.

The definition of a spoiler has become very loose for some people. There are literally people who feel that they can tell you the general plot, and maybe even a large plot twist midway through the story, but as long as they don't tell you exactly how it ends, they didn't spoil a thing for you. But they might even hint at how it ends, by saying it was very sad or something like that, letting you know something sad happens to someone important, but they didn't spoil anything, because they didn't say exactly what happens.

I don't like those kinds of people.

Probably, but I try to avoid the Black Friday crowds. $250.00 for a 250GB with Skyrim and Forza 4 is a great deal and my local shop has some in stock. Very tempted to jump on it.

Nope, I just found it on YT. Use google and choose your words wisely ; )

Is it me, or the do the weapon sounds, sound, cheap?

Can`t find it...wink wink..

Is that killzone 3 GIF ingame or cutscene though ? ( as for which human looks better, thats not remotely even debateable, imho, but tbh The camera isn`t as mercilessly close to the guy`s face in h4)

To be fair, there aren't that many Xbox exclusives that have the potential to showcase the power of the system like Halo.

Gears of War is about the only thing that comes to mind, and its murky color scheme makes the graphical fidelity seem less impressive than it actually is.

I definitely understand staying away from that crowd, I do the same and try to salvage what I could after work =p

I just have a hard time paying current console prices anymore with next gen around the corner. Hopefully my PS360 last me until I sell them for whatever I end up getting at launch next year.

That KZ3 gif is running at about 5 fps. Why it's even being used for comparison is beyond me.

I think H4 looks great. The comparison is bullshit though.

I assure you there was no agenda, lol. Those two gifs were actually posted in another thread here on GAF and I merely used them for quick reference. I was only trying to illustrate how it easily has some of the best visuals we will see on consoles this gen. And it does look better than KZ3 to me. *shrugs*

Oh, I'm not faulting you. It happens all the time (mostly with people using youtube videos for comparison because they don't know any better). Just trying to put everything on a level playing field.

Here's 2 KZ3 gifs I made. Use them to compare to your heart's content.

I don't see why that would be the case. Forza, PGR, Fable, Gears, Kameo, Banjo, Alan Wake... Even something like Crackdown. They all have the potential, but few/none have realized it to this extent.

A much better comparison indeed. Like I said, the character models are top notch. I just think the lighting and animations are more realistic in Halo 4 based on the footage I watched yesterday. However, both look great for sure. To each their own.

Not realtime. KZ3 cutscenes are pre-rendered, the same for U3 cutscenes.

Wait hold on a sec, correct me if I'm wrong but I''m prettttyyyy sure both Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3 uses keyframe animation for the faces. Halo 4 on the other hand uses a similar technique seen in Avatar, using a video camera attached to the face of an actor and markers on the face? Hence why you see those subtle but fluid shifts in Lasky's smile and eye movements...Personally, that alone puts it beyond ND's work on Uncharted 3

I thought Uncharted used some kind of capturing method as well, no?

Regardless, all 3 games use a bone structured system for facial animation unless I'm mistaken. This is different than what we saw with LA Noire which used a streaming normal map on top of the mesh.

I think Halo 4 looks very good. It's up there with Uncharted 3 and God of War III in terms of graphical fidelity. imo The Last of Us and God of War: Ascension look slightly better, but then again neither of those games are out yet so we can't really compare.

While I don't like these sorts of comparisons between platform exclusives because we both know where they usually lead, I have to say that Halo 4 still looks noticeably better in this department, from the point of geometry, texture work and animation. But it's to be expected, Killzone 3 is an older game, and I don't think the characters were ever supposed to be one of its strong points. It still looks amazing where it counts, in gameplay (although from what I've seen, I'd say Halo 4 looks at least as good in that area as well). As others have pointed out, Naughty Dog's and Quantic Dream's work would be a better point of reference here.

Naughty Dog's are of high quality. Look at her eyes.
