This would make for a great "NeoGAF" gif edit.

The whole web-browswer thing is pretty lame if you ask me. It is cool if this was a console, but we are talking a PC. I already surf the web with my PC on my HDTV. All I do is set the text font to medium and/or high (cant remember which I use) and just use IE9 to surf the web, youtube, gooogle etc.

The Web-Browser built into Steam is not very good imho and not needed at all since your PC is alraedy capable of going to the web. I have been doing almost all my Web Surfing from my Rig since my Laptop took a shit and had no issues. Using the one within Steam seems like a major back-step for web browsing. It is clunky, the zoom is pretty screwed up (they should have a setting options where you can set he zoom level at start up).

But regardless of how good/bad the browser is...Why did they even take the time to do this? It is a PC or is this just part of the software that will go into a steambox system?

AFAIK, the browser is already a big part of steam. The whole regular client is browser based. It probably wasn't much effort to spruce it up a bit and add in some gui functionality for it.

Anyone able to start steam in big picture mode without having to click it first?

Is there a command line for this?

with steam simply sitting in my system tray, hitting the home button on my controller starts big picture mode right up. Or is that not what you mean?

This works much better than I was expecting. I have a keyboard I keep under my couch that I pull out turn on, start game, turn back off every time i play a game from the couch, I can now do all of that from my controller. Nice...

The entire point is that you don't need a keyboard/mouse. It's not very complicated.

It doesn't. If you manage to place the files in the correct location, Steam will download an update that will overwrite an important DLL every time Big Picture Mode is launched. x360ce just won't work.

Yeah, just tried doing this. Put the files in the bin folder, loaded up Steam and it updated again, and the controller wouldn't work.

Why on earth did they decide using the analogue instead of the dpad for menu navigation? oO

Agree. They should allow both to be used. That is one of the first things I checked. I natually went to use the D-Pad and it does nothing! I am sure they will add that functionaility though.

Probably because they have so many features on steam and all of them are made using the web. Getting a browser working to start lets them get every Steam feature working from the get go. At some point they will probably get all those different features (Greenlight, Achievements etc.) working in the big picture UI, but for now this is the solution.

No BPM for me. As soon as I try switching to BPM it crashes Steam. Even if I try to start Steam in BPM it crashes as soon as it connects to my account.

few hidden keyboard shortcuts:

Alt+m - home page
alt+f - friends with chat
alt+w - web browser
ctrl+, - settings

f6 - debuger

~ - console

in console:
find - show usage, but doesn't work
quit - quits steam

Very good point my man. I guess for me, I have been gaming on my TV with my various rigs for a while and always had a Keyboard and Mouse (wireless) sitting on my sofa next to me. I usally have the kb on my lap and a mouse pad and mouse on the cushion next to me and it works great.

But as you pointed out, this is for the Controller only crowd. Still a few stuff they can do to improve it:

1. In settings, allow the user to set the Zoom level numerically. For example, 50% Zoom, 100% zoom etc. Default right now, even on my 55" TV the text is too small.

2. The Zoom using the R-Stick is too chunky and looks like crap when it zooms.

That's all I got right now.

Can anyone explain how the "Guide Button" works? I have read a few people talk about it, but not sure what it does within Steam.

Also, any way to set BPM where when Steam loads it goes to it automatically? I love the mode and already prefer it to the regular Steam set-up.

Can you use MotionJoy with controllers other then the DS3? Cause the 360 controller emulator works fine there.

I'm so fed up with Steam. It seems they messed up the file system for Hard Reset, and there is nothing I can do to play the game I purchased. The dev of Hard Reset even said there is nothing they can do until Valve fixes it.

Chances are high Valve will never address the issue since its an older release... what the fuck?

Yeah, I think this thing is generally good enough - as soon as the custom grid icons are sorted out, I'm using it! :D

I even tried restarting my PC and no dice. :(
:/ It's a beta after all.

I love how you can browse your games and just hit a letter key to jump to those games.
I like that LB and RB goes through the letters quickly. Just a lot of smart little things they thought of. Yet it's far from perfect, and far from complete. Will closely watch how they'll expand and improve on this first beta version.

How do I link XBMC into this?

I like what I see so far, but definitely needs some work. The browser feels like it's sorta half assed implemented. Also the bug where you filter and the drop down goes off the screen hopefully gets fixed immediatley. It makes the drop down useless.

is this after you installed the Beta? cuz played fine for me a few weeks ago.

Here's a thread on it, it just stopped working for me after I reinstall it. This is on a fresh install of Windows 7 with a clean download.

The stinger is that I had this problem on the same day as the registry issues with Steam from some time ago.. madness. I don't think Valve ever addressed or mentioned the issue, couldnt access my games all day.

Seriously, am I the only one with this issue (the categories going off the screen)?

Ok, so this was somehow fixed by moving some stuff around in my categories. Now the list correctly drops down instead of going up off the top of the screen. However, you'll still run into issues if you have more than 15 categories, as that seems to be the maximum amount BPM can display at 1080p. With more than that, the ones after #15 hide off-screen, and the list doesn't scroll if you navigate down to them.

Only native XInput controllers are supported now.* I guess your controller isn't one of those.

I'm hoping for DirectInput support in the future.

*although some people got PS3 controllers working through MotionInJoy

My DS3 emulating a 360 controller through MotioninJoy works perfectly, just like it does in all games with 360 controller support that I've tried. MotioninJoy creates a virtual XInput device, so Windows simply thinks it's a 360 controller.

Doing that starts BPM up in the background for me. Any windows that are not minimized will stay in front, and even if everything is minimized the task bar will still be in front of BPM.

They've done this to at least one other game and have changed things back upon realizing it broke things. Race 07 is a whole lot more obscure to the Steam audience than Hard Reset.

It's not an old game and you can ban-bet that it'll get fixed.

i wish it scrolls when i have the cursor on the edge of the screen.

Yeah, this big time.

Also, if you use a mouse in the games grid view with the scroll wheel there is a bug that doesn't lower the volume or stop the previous scroll sound, it becomes insanely loud.

Here are some things I found while digging through BPM's files:

If someone tells my the XINPUT values for the D-Pad we have D-Pad navigation :D
Also the entire BPM UI seems to be made with CSS, so we could see major custom UIs too!
