Well, yes, but that's beside the point. For me, FMA is about the journey of Ed and Al to find redemption, and the way Brotherhood attempted to resolve that journey felt half-hearted and overshadowed by the whole
"I'm going to become a god!"
plot. The stakes of the original finale felt very personal for the brothers; in this one it was more
"We've got to save the country, and I guess we'll go grab our bodies afterwards."
It wasn't the direction I was hoping for.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying Brotherhood is bad and I'm certainly glad I watched it, but I did find it to be inferior to the original in several respects, including this one. Perhaps the manga executes this ending better.

It's not though. It's the red-herring premise. As a fan of Babylon 5, I thought you would appreciate that part.

I mean, the answer to the problem was so clear almost from the beginning that the ending was fait accompli, since they keep hammering home the idea of
equivalent exchange
over and over again.

I will say, I did like when it was just Ed and Al adventuring, and that might be a reason why I'd be okay with watching the first half of original FMA (or whenever the anime original stuff happens), but all of that was just a set up to them discovering the truth about the philosopher stones and the cost involved.

I am one of the unfortunate victims that followed fma 1 when it was airing, so I had to wait over a year to get an ending cause Fma 1 tv doesn't have an ending it ends with "we need moneyz your not getting the ending unless you watch the movie",
it ends at the beginning of the movie with edward being transported with the real world london in ww2 in the middle of a Nazi plane invasion.

Um, I did talk about story extensively. The whole point of the escalation paragraph is pretty much dedicated to that. I also talked about BONES-type narration issues where you introduce a completely new concept at the last possible minute.

As for consistency, that ties into the thematic component.
As for the complaint about my focus on character development, can you cite a couple of what you would define as well-written endings that don't have some sort of focus on the development of the characters? Every one that sticks in my mind does exhibit how the characters have changed.
My bad the e7 talk managed to scramble my brain cause of how darn cliché it sounded(wuss to blahblah older father like figure) so that's what stood out to me, when I later made the post(was hoping it had info on the story like whats going on).

Personally I don't think anime endings are good it's just that some are worse then others and the best that you can hope for is an ok one.
Asking me to come up with a good well written one is a tall order equivalent to asking me to turn water into wine.

The only one I can think of I liked isn't really an ending but more an adaptation ending midway through the source material so am not sure if it qualifies since the story didn't end(berserk).

Doesn't help the show made a point to explain that her place was something she actually splurged on it.
Well, I mean, it seemed like a pretty nice place. It's not hard to believe it cost her mad spacebucks, especially given that it's in such a secluded and beautiful part of the game world.

edit: just rewatched the scene and it actually cuts away from the super neat area to go to a more densely populated scrubzone. Pfft.

I thought BONES were trying to keep mechanical animation a live by drawing mechanical stuff? Or can truly no one draw a car anymore?

There are heaps of people that can do just that, trust me. The reasons they opt for CG instead are obviously time and money.

Now, I can agree with you about the blandness of the art devised for the series. The original E7 got away with this more easily because of its original setting. AO taking place for the most part in a more contemporary setting really highlights how bland everything is (every single new mechanical design is really lackadaisical as well; and it's only highlighted whenever the Nirvash Spec 2 is on screen). E7 benefited a lot from Kawamoris and Yoshidas designs when it came to the visuals, as they helped keep things interesting even during periods when the animation budget had been kept low (the storyboards/e-konte being the other part).

A contrast to other player housing might have helped. Kirito acted as if he lived in a cardboard box somewhere when he saw her place.

The Time of Eve movie had a good ending. Maybe you should watch it sometime.

Which was ridiculous as he should have been richer than her. Is the guild taxing their members?

He did say something along the lines of probably being able to afford something similar if he wanted, I think. I like to believe he's more practical about it and saves it for gear & consumables especially since he does the solo thing.

He said he had that much in savings but the way it implied was that it would burn through essentially everything he had.

He does comments that he has enough money to afford something like that, but it's implied that it would basically bankrupt him.
I miss my FFXI housing. Banners & mannequins everywhere :(
lol my house was dogshit, but given how fucking poor I was all the time, I was super proud of the three or so pots I had in there.

They were beautiful pots, I'll have you know.

The house where Asuna lived was a small but pretty three-floored maisonette which you could get to by walking eastward from the downtown area for a few minutes.

But it wasn't overly decorated either, nor did it make you feel uncomfortable. It was totally different from my house. I felt overwhelmingly relieved that I didn't invite her to my house.
“Erm...how much did this cost...?”
At my materialistic question.
“Hmm-, with the house and the furniture, about 4000k? I'm going to change so just sit anywhere you want.”
She answered lightly and disappeared through a doorway. "K" is short for thousand. 4000k meant four million Col. I practically lived on the front lines, so I could save up that much if I tried. But I always wasted it on either some strange item or a sword that caught my eye, so I never saved up. I chastised myself, which was out of character, and sank into the spongy sofa.

LN to the rescue.

This episode was a nice return to form after a mildly boring 6. This show is actually better when the four main characters are broken up and interacting with the other characters. Part of the problem is that when they are together, you can expect rather one-dimensional jokes and gags. You can expect Kyouko to harass Chinatsu, Chinatsu to crush on Yui, Yui to be annoyed with Kyouko, and I'm pretty sure there was someone else too. I don't remember who it is though. But in general they always act these roles out when together, which is why the show often seems to work better when they are apart.

However, in an episode like this one where everyone is doing their own thing with their sibllings, new and actually different humor can emerge. So this episode involves Sakurako and her two sisters, Himawari and her imouto, Chitose and Chizuru, Yui and "Life is Sour" Mari, and finally a pretty awesome short last segment involving Chinatsu and her onee-chan and then finally Akarin and her siscon onee-chan Akane. Um, Akane has some issues. Yeah, I'll never think of listening to Vivaldi the same way ever again. I suppose I can avoid that problem by not listening to Vivaldi though. Huhuhu~

If Ed and Al get replaced as the focus of the show, then I suppose the problem is that their replacement - Father and his schemes for Amestris - is not as compelling, at least as presented in the anime.

No, Milos is really bad.

Milos has its flaws (the shoehorning in of established franchise characters is awkward, and the ending is a bit of a cop-out), but I think it's pretty good on the whole. The setting and setpieces are creative and attractive, with wonderful action animation.

Further evidence for importance of the original anime series. firehawk12 wouldn't understand as he has yet to see it.

Hmm, I guess Freecell's still supposed to be the final boss, though it'll be interesting to finally get an explaination for Klondike's role in all this.

Also,
it's not my area of expertise, but is Melancholy the only one of the order whose name isn't based on some card game? If so, I wonder if that means anything.

Yep, it's To Love-ru.
Motto looks a lot different in style than the last series did. It'll take some getting used to, but I'll manage.
Nothing spectacular about this episode. Mostly just a way to reintroduce all the characters. Still don't have a clue about that tiny creepy plant girl is and where it came from.

Rinne no Lagrange 1-6

This show is surprisingly neat so far. Is the next episode where it jumps the shark into full schizophrenia?

Marus and wans are less prominent than I expected them to be, but still wonderful. They didn't live up to the hype at first(especially the wans, Lan was phoning that shit in), but they've definitely grown on me. Muginami's mugis are pretty great, too, for very different reasons.

I find the ED to be way more enjoyable than the OP. iirc, this makes me a terrible human being.

Also, something something beautiful mech action, amazing soundtrack, etc

I think Milos is fine. It's biggest problem is that they tried to recreate the entire arc of the series in a movie, and it became a fairly weak rehash. The problem is that they had to tie it to the main story but not really, so it is both too small and too big at the same time.

They could have made it a post-series movie, but that's probably impossible for them.

I look at it like the move from Sinclair and the hole in his mind, which felt like the main plot of the series, before it just amped up and he became a small (yet integral) piece in the Shadow War. As in B5, the war itself wasn't really that important to me, but the characters wrapped up in the war. I just think it's a nice bonus how FMA wrapped up perfectly thematically, but the best part was just how the entire cast evolved and came together to fight the war together.

Yes,
dealing with death
is pretty deep!

This episode was pleasant, but I kind of wish that they were able to figure out a way to have A, B, and C stories run concurrently. I understand that it's probably a time issue, but it's just a bit silly for each character to get their own arc when there's no reason that these crisises shouldn't be happening concurrently. It just, well, makes the TVness of the show more apparent.

Also, watching this after The Newsroom (bleh) and Breaking Bad (holy fuck) is a strange experience. Talk about cognitive dissonance. lol

But the ED is good.
It is good, but Rinne's OP is entirely legit in a stand out way on both a visual and audio level in a way the ED can't compete with. KO posting about those episodes makes me sad, because that was way back when Rinne actually had some kind or promise.

Yes, yes it does.
Excellent. I try to keep my character consistent, you know?

I totally respect why the OP is so highly regarded, and it's actually growing on me, but the ED just makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside. It's got a lot of heart. The OP is just flying on a fly in space.

So I guess that's how the episodes are structured now? Three short stories stuck together that don't really have anything to do with each other? I'm ok with that. Doesn't let them drag on for to long.

IIRC they're just adapting 3 different manga chapters into one episode now, a big improvement on how it used to be.. Like in the first series Ran/Run or whatever's intro chapter was only a single, yet the anime padded it out to last 20 minutes.

Yeah, that one really dragged on and on. Then they barely ever showed up in the rest of the show, which made that episode feel all the more pointless.
