The existence of two Avatars makes even less sense if you consider that flashgame which took part between book 2 and 3 which is considered canon where Aang had to restore the Avatar cycle step by step. I refuse to believe that they would just change that now.

Yes, But I do think it is the most fun of the theories going around right now. Mainly because it doesn't involve Amon being an established character.

I don't think Amon is an established character, but maybe we'll get some flashbacks involving his younger, less scarred self in episode 10 or 11. Episode 11 spoiler:
Remember that in episode 11 we're due a return of Dante Basco (Zuko's VO)
, not to mention some storyboard art leaked of (spoiler for an as yet unknown episode)
Aang meeting up with Zuko, Mai and their daughter
which we haven't seen in an episode yet. It all seems to be coming together if you connect the dots.

Right now I don't think (more like refuse to believe) they'd limit Aang's visions to the Yakone thing.

I think the idea that a non-bender didn't even register to Aang as a threat would be an interesting concept to play with.

I think the idea that a non-bender didn't even register to Aang as a threat would be an interesting concept to play with.

I think that depends entirely on when Aang would choose to pass energybending onto him. If it's before Amon's family were wiped out, then that'd be okay, but even Aang would have more sense than to give energybending to someone who just had his family taken away from him.

But I still think it's not energybending, unless there are multiple ways of doing it. The only time we've seen confirmed energybending is from Aang and the Lion turtle, and both of them touched the forehead and the chest. Amon places his thumb on the forehead, and his other hand isn't in any one specific place (though is mostly on the back of the neck, but I think that's because he's doing it from behind, and hits a pressure point to force their head to tilt back), since he debended Tahno one-handed. I think they've been clear to distinguish Amon's ability to take away bending from Aang's. The fact that Aang had to de-bend Yakone, only for Amon to deb-end Tarrlok moments later, just reinforces that distinction.

IIRC, this "leak" was from a Comic-Con a few years back.
Really? Because I thought we didn't know about
any of Zuko's children until we found out his daughter took his place as Fire Lord after he stepped down.

Edit: Also rocking an awesome new phone wallpaper.

Just need some 16:9 Korra art for my Vita now...

^Nice, though the best part of the image is underneath the time and date.

Why did the theory about Amon being the physical world version of Koh disappear?

I think that only came about because the fandom really liked Koh, and was disappointed he didn't play a larger part in the original series.*

Amon has eyes and blood. The eyes could be fake... somehow, but I doubt that.

I honestly have no idea what direction they plan to take Amon. Spirit? A second Avatar? (I doubt this strongly) Blood bender? (please god no) Just insanely powerful mother fucker?

It may just be that last one, but I will be disappointed if it is. I'm sure there is a reason they're hiding his face.

*EDIT: I should add that I too am disappointed that koh played such a minor role. In fact, the entire spirit realm played a minor role. I'd love to get a larger look at it. if the next book is in fact spirit, maybe we will.

The problem is that if I take it any lower, I just get black space. See how it is in the original image to see why. Even more disappointing is that I can't even get a home screen dedicated to just the picture, since you need icons on each screen, and they all default to the top left, meaning his face is almost always obscured. And it'd look a bit silly having just one app or folder on a whole page. :(

But it's alright, he's got pride of place on my other favourite handheld device.
It looks a little blurry there, but actually looks awesome and sharp on the Vita screen, even though the compression/dithering is still there. I think that's a system limitation...

That pic is badass and i can see no one touching your Vita with that stare LOL

him standing at the top of the stairs waiting for tarrlok was the part that got me. i was totally expecting tenzin and the crew.

There were 3 moments in that episode that really made Amon look cool.

-Standing at the top of the stairs.
-Resisting the blood bending
-When Korra bursts out of the building, and their eyes meet.

He's always so calm and composed.

yeah those were mine. just an escalating series of expletives out my mouth.

That was the best thing of my life. I wasn't even expecting it and then BOOM MOTHERFUCKER. So boss. Seriously, Amon is like the greatest villan ever

Blum plays the part quite well.

Blum was the perfect casting for Amon. He does such a great job making him sound truly menacing. When he gave Korra the big speech about the main event to come back near the start of the series, i was convinced they'd made the right choice with Blum.

What I love about his mask is the way it makes him not just mysterious, but also unreadable. He looks calm and collected in every scene. The man couldn't look more confident.

Yea whoever said that it should have been someone else, no i still don't agree with that.

ron perlman?

i still think it should have been ron perlman.

there's a couple times where blum slips into doing an 'evil voice'. an example would be at the end of episode 3 when he says korra will be the perfect messenger of his power. just the way he says power rubbed me the wrong way, like he's giddy about being a bad guy.

blum does a good job though. i thought the delivery on 'i am the solution' in episode 9 was pretty much perfect, and lacked any 'evil voice' accent.

never seen last airbender, do I need to watch that first?

Yes. You'll miss out on a ton of jokes and references if you don't. Plus, Korra uses concepts from the original without really explaining them, and the story does build on the events of the original series.

Plus, TLA is an amazing show.

That would mean the line split when Aang was 12. Why was no second Avatar ever discovered then? It isn't like it is hard to notice.

Also do people like you just ignore the lore surrounding energybending, or do you really not get it? You don't need to be an Avatar to energybend.

You also don't need to be an Avatar to enter the spirit world, considering Koh was able to lure a regular human into the spirit world once before and steal her face off.

Exactly. If he stayed dead then there wouldn't have been an avatar. They used the super special chekovs gun spirit water and it revived Aang and the avatar spirit. It's only one thing, it can't be split up.

It's also pretty explicitly explained that before people bent elements, they bent energy. Meaning it wasn't just the avatar.

That stupid turtle thing wasn't a spirit either, he was just super old.

Do you even watch the show? Everything you think is wrong.

lol I actually watched maybe.. 75% of the first set, so .... but enough to understand and play with the concepts!

No "other Avatar" was discovered because this "split Avatar" didn't have bending powers like a regular Avatar. The process was corrupted due to the circumstances of Aang's death and rebirth and Katara's life-hacking skills. Plus, people weren't actively looking out for another Avatar if Aang's still alive and being the Avatar.

And don't you think it's a little BS that if the Avatar is killed in the Avatar state, then there would no longer be an Avatar/spirit for the planet? Who came up with that part of the myth, anyway? Perhaps they meant that particular Avatar line would end, so they couldn't get "past knowledge", but a new Avatar-type surely would have been born? >_> Hope doesn't die. It has new children? (I am a fan of the thought that all "myths" and rules are twisted versions of the truth).

And of course I know the turtle-lion thing was just old so he witnessed the past and could teach it to Aang, but no, I don't think just everyone can energy-bend. The same way why not everyone can bend every other element. (Even though a part of me thinks it should be due to cultural inclination, not 100% genetics--I still find it suspect that only Aang's family line are airbenders).

Energy beinding seems to be a knowledge transfer/teaching-required thing. So unless Ozai somehow went around preaching about what happened when Aang took away his bending and people were able to replicate that OR Aang decided to teach it to others (both scenarios I find unlikely), then no one's going to know about the "lost art" unless they too could spiritually communicate with the turtle-lion and learn from him or other spirits.

For all I know, Amon's just a bitter Airbender-Island student that shunned his inability to bend to protect people (due to DNA?) despite his deep spiritual practice, and lashed out by learning the secrets of Aang's energy-bending, and then he mastered it, and now he's running amok. Perhaps he even had his face stolen by Koh in exchange for energy-bending knowledge.

I just happen to like the split death state explanation better because it seems cooler.

Don't you think it was BS that when Zhao killed the moon spirit it was PERMANENTLY fucked until someone sacrificed their life to restore it? There doesn't HAVE to be a new one. The split line theory contradicts the given lore.

Well cool. "Not everyone can energybend" Does not mean only the Avatar can do it. For fucks sake. The only limitation we know of is that you have to have an unbendable will.

Its a good thing Amon claimed he entered the spirit world, and made contact with spirits from it. Ever think maybe that has something to do with how Amon learned energybending? It is kind of his claim.

The only thing that is known about spirit bending is that multiple people can wield it, not just an individual according to the lionturtle.

Didn't Aang take away Yakone's Bendig abilities out in the open, so couldn't it be possible that someone saw Aang performing the energy bending from an angle only seeing him using one finger and then attempted to replicate it?

I seriously hope this isn't the explanation for it. It's as dumb as the ending part of Deathly Hallows.
Ron being able to speak the Parseltongue for "open" by mimicking the hisses Harry made five goddamn years ago.

He heard Harry say the same thing when they were opening the locket horcrux in the forest.

The hero Republic City needs, but not the one it deserves.

Batman/Amon:
Chill as fuck
High tech anachronistic gadgetry
Ninja kung fu
Awesome mask
Fights super powered freaks

What if Amon was some sort of disciple of Aangs? And training with the Avatar he picked up some moves and how to counter bending. Plus remember at the end of TLA when
Aang was energybending the fire out of Ozai, but then Ozai was about to overpower him? Then maybe energybending has the effect to grant bending also?

But that's a silly theory and I'm sure Aang was much busier with politics and balancing society than training some pupils.

As for the split Avatar idea, then Amon would either have to have been born when Aang was injured in the first series, making him roughly 53 or have been born as the same time as Korra, making him 17. Both seem a bit off.

I kind of want to hope that Amon has a connection to either Bumi or Ty Lee or Suki. All of those mainly because none of them have been mentioned at all and I want to see what happened to them.

Hey, it was still able to get replaced via sacrifice or whatever other means.
Hence the Avatar can get replaced. Makes sense to me. >_>

Yes. I just listed that it was a possible way to how Amon knew how to do it (why he sought it out in the first place though... => bitter apprentice theory?). I don't care for that explanation though.

Didn't Aang take away Yakone's Bendig abilities out in the open, so couldn't it be possible that someone saw Aang performing the energy bending from an angle only seeing him using one finger and then attempted to replicate it?
Yeah. That would be dumb too. I wouldn't accept it, but they might go for that angle.

I like my corrupted lore fanfiction better. Amon being a 53-year-old Avatar is an acceptable convoluted fanfiction to me. xD

Amon's eye.. => Azula's son. HAHA
Terrible.
