Amon also usually de-bendifies people in public. My guess is that Amon is going to find some other way to make an example of Tarrlok.

I don't think he does that all the time because they did have that huge prison system and they had the metal benders in there even after they lost their bending abilities.
I think people know what Amon is capable of. He doesn't need to grandstand with public shows of his power. The simple fact that he caught up with Tarrlok and de-bended him is enough.
He de-bended the metalbender cops without a show and dance, and he did the same to Tarrlok in the cabin. Letting him keep his bending is just turning him into an escape risk. He could easily bloodbend all the Equalists, except Amon, and he's not exactly going to keep guard of him 24/7 is he?

The last two episodes have been really great. (not that the other ones weren't great too, mind)
One thing: I really really don't like Aang's adult design and voice. It looks completely wrong to me. His beard looks like shit. :/ And Toph looks too tall.

Impossible task. Would have like to see Zach or Jack do the voices again. Bryke or even JK Simmons would have been a nice touch. Zach's dad or Rachel Dratch(ember island aang) would have been some serious fan service.

yeah i really hated the beard myself. maybe if he had a mustash to go along with the beard, it wouldnt have looked as bad. he looks pretty boss (and young) otherwise for a 40 year old dude.

I think Amon was after info from Tarrlok. Remember his plan was to capture Lin previously. Tarrlok is essentialy the police chief so for his uprising Amon needs all the info on the police.

Part of me wants to believe he wanted Korra to escape. He spoke so loud that he either underestimates Korra's ability to think on her feet, or was basically saying "HERES HOW TO ESCAPE!"
And why didn't he supervise capturing Korra himself if it was so damn important? Tarlok was incapacitated. He could have easily had a grunt handle him.

Plot expedience... since the avatar wasn't going anywhere there was no need to delegate period, they could have secured Tarrlok, then got Korra. Plot expedience (or a hole) probably explains why / how Amon knew Korra was in a box at all given he hadn't gone downstairs to see how Korra was being held.

I don't like how Lin just waltzed into the prisons and released Team Avatar.
I was looking at it from the angle that Tarrlok's actions and abilities are going to be exposed very soon, and Amon stands to gain a lot of favour from the innocent non-benders Tarrlok harassed by revealing that "he succeeded where the Avatar failed".

Maybe he figured only a platinum box could hold her. Who knows. Maybe thats the only thing they use in the Avatar world for kidnapping.
Even though he brought them in it's still Amon's prison. He's the one running things, he knows they're there since he is the one that took away their bending.
He doesn't really need a public display for that, though. He can just hijack the radio and tell the world about how he's kidnapped the tyrannical Councilman Tarrlok and taken away his bending.
I'm sure when he appears in a ditch, unable to bloodbend the metalbender cops detaining him, nobody's going to doubt what Amon said.
Yeah, I'd like to think there's a chance he wanted to let her escape but didn't want to openly suggest that to the grunts or whatever. Throws me back to what he said in episode 4:

Like he said, he has a plan. Now, he may have wanted to capture her, perhaps try to force her into the Avatar state. But I don't think he's that upset she got away.

I'm still sad there hasn't been more show of awesome airbending. Tenzin keeps dropping the ball and while aang's scene was great it was too short, and I'm not even going to comment on Korra's. At least we'll always have Meelo, he'll save us all from Amon along with Pabu. BELIEVE!
Its odd that the book is named 'Air' when we have seen Korra practicing airbending like, twice.

I think the theory that amon is a blood bender seems plausible based on the preview, the flashback with aang being useless for tarrloks arc and why amon could resist bloodbending. The only thing I don't like is how overpowered they made tarrlok/yakone. I wish there was a fatal flaw to blood bending or overpowered techniques for the other bendings.

I don't want Amon to be a bender at all. That's the kind of hypocrisy that I hate in a lot of villains because you can see that shit a mile away.
I'm sorry but you will probably end up being disappointed.
So Amon is a bender that doesn't like benders and wants to take away everyone's ability to bend?

That would make him Sylar. While I loved Sylar's character, it was because Sylar wasn't trying to hide who he was. He let EVERYONE know that he was going to take your powers and leave you for dead. The only twists he had were his Heel-Face turns.
Amon secretly being a bender would be awful. He's parading around as a savior for non-benders, then "hey guess what I'm a bender too lawl!" I want Amon to stay true to what he is: a non-bender who knows how to fight benders.
It won't be as hamfisted as that.

Amon is a bender who wants to have his power reign over all others. He wants to have the sole ability to bend so no one can revolt against him. If he revealed he was blocking peoples bending via blood then water benders could figure out a way to fix it. Just tossing out alternate theories. Id for one love for a great surprising twist to the source of his powers that we haven't guessed of course.
Maybe he has a heightened sense of chi blocking/energy bending that essentially negates bending. So that he can block peoples bending and can also resist others bending. We've seen him cut through blasts of fire(could've been dodging and proper timing but its ambigous), resisted blood bending or like how he dashed through korras mist cover she used while running away. I think that would be an interesting twist in the avatar world if more people existed that had similar powers.
Just throwing out ideas who knows.
I think the overpoweredness of Yakone is the factor that drives Aang to make the mistake that leads to the rise of Amon. My hunch is that "Skeletons in the Closet", the penultimate episode, will address this.
This seems pretty logical. And it may be a spiritual disruption Aang causes, not just one in the lives of people.
