Trying to compare being suspended and the ASG to the Hall of Fame is stretching it.

Well apparently a suspension is such a horribly shameful thing that someone can't show their face at the ASG... So you would think it would have some relevance. I just don't see any connection between the two and you still haven't made one.

I'm glad the break is coming up now since the Blues really seem to need one. Hopefully by the time they play their 1st after the ASG, Steen will be back and McDonald will be close. They are both needed right now.

Would be nice to beat the Pens tonight, but we'll see. I'm going to miss a good part of the game. Might not get to watch until the 3rd starts.

Rumours that Hal Gill may be available at the trade deadline. Interested teams include Florida, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia.

I'd welcome Gill back.

Letang - Orpik
Michalek - Martin
Niskanen - Engelland/Gill

Sounds good to me, though I already like the Pens' top 6 when they're all healthy. Martin's had a bit of a rough season, so maybe Gill coming in for him might make some sense.

Would be nice for the Pens to win tonight too. Heh. Hoping for more Malkin and Neal magic.

And here's a random Tortorella interview from 2007:

Love it.

"We know what we did. We know what we did. We know what we did."
"Johnny Maclean? You should ask him."
"I guess that's what I'm saying, Brooksie. Get the fuck out of here."

I had forgotten about this. Haha.

I'd rather have Engelland than Gill, especially when you consider the cap hit. Engo is a quarter of the price that Gill is, and possibly even a better player at this point. If Gill was going to replace anyone, it'd be Nisky since they have a similar cap hit and Niskanen's contract is up at the end of the season and he won't be cheap again (I've said before that I expect him to get shipped off). A Gill/Engo line would be pretty sick though, talk about a fucking terror. That line would pulverize everything in sight, and Orpik would finish off what was left. I almost want it to happen now even though I really like Niskanen.

Gill for Martin would be a little odd (since they're different types of players) and something I don't see happening. Martin has had rough patches but he's been playing very well now that he's back on a line consistently with Michalek. When he's good, he is damn fucking good.

And we're due for a loss. On the road, against a good team like the Blues? I won't be shocked if we lose. We played fucking terrible against them last time, if we bring our A game it should be a pretty good contest though.

Yeah, it's tough because I also really like Niskanen, and think he's been all-around solid this year. But a d pairing of Gill and Engo would be pretty formidable, especially with Engo's offensive upside.

I have a similar feeling about tonight's game, but the Blues are also hurt a little right now.

On a random note, I wonder if we're ever going to see Brent Johnson again this season.

Some NHL.com goodies from this morning:

One more from the "Shit people say" pile. This one's actually really good.

My favourites?
"Yes! Another shootout!"
"We really need to trade for a 4th line role player."
"Sure, I'd let Mark Hardy babysit my daughter."

Can't fucking wait to hear McBlab and co bitch about Stastny not getting an ASG spot later today. Aside from the Phoenix commentators I often wonder if we have the worst two in the league.

We really need too, we're wearing Fleury out. Someone mentioned on HFBoards that Fleury played a similar stretch of games in the year we won the Cup, but it still makes me nervous that he won't have anything left for a deep playoff run. We need a solid back-up and if Johnson can't get it together it could really cost us. The thought of Shero picking up a new back-up at the trade deadline has entered my mind a time or two during the past month.

How is the Pen's PK?

Sabres will have Ehrhoff and Regher return tonight. It will be our healthiest lineup in months. Should be interesting.

Gill is worth his entire pay for his 5 on 3 and PK work alone, otherwise he shouldn't be given a lot of ES minutes he's getting too old and slow, but his PK work will be invaluable in the playoffs for a team on the edge of a cup run imo.

He's also a good guy to give one-on-one assignments to. He's a big body who can tie up a guy and get him off his game.

True, him and Gorges were one of the reasons we were able to shut down Ovie and Crosby during the Halak run we had, but he's definitely showing his age these days.

Drake's performing at the ASG too, which while not the best performer they could have done worse for it being in Ottawa.

I think them getting Drake is a pretty big deal. Whether you like his music or not he's a pretty big act right now, would be some nice publicity.

Not terrible. I fucking love The Roots so I was happy they got them for the Winter Classic. The NHL is doing a pretty decent job of booking acts.

Well... I laughed..... and then went "ooooooo." I mean it's funny... but it's not.... So basically I'm cool with it. His joke is just as harmless as Thomas' dumbass facebook post.

This is mostly him on TSN. Sort of the old guy cracking a joke, and it's mildly funny at best, but if someone else said it, it wouldn't be funny at all.

Also while Haynes & McNab haven't had any one singular moment that I can think of, they are consistently able to deliver the most irrelevant homerized play by play every night. I'm sure there are worse but holy shit I'm fed up with these assholes. Going on like 14 years of this magnificent duo.

Yea one of the better acts Canada has to offer anyways, at least its not Justin Bieber.

Joe Beninati is pretty bad. I always know the "___ Greene/Karlsson no relation to Mike Green/John Carlson" line will be coming up and I hate it.

God I hope the flyers don't trade any of the young guys for a rental. They aren't winning anything this year with the two Russians in goal anyway.

Hahaha.. Buffalo has a B-team this year now that Jeanneret is winding down, and Kevin Sylvester reminds me of Beninati. It drives me nuts that he has this 'excited voice' that sounds nothing like his regular voice. Fucking awful. I cringe everytime someone scores.

Jake Gardiner is disappointed, to say the least.

Awesome that Drake's performing. Not a big fan, myself, but it's good to see the NHL book actually good acts.

Is it just me, or does it seem kind of awkward for them to perform on the ice. I remember watching Ne-Yo perform at the ASG in Atlanta, and at one point, he had a marching band come onto the ice, and I was actually worried someone would slip and fall. Would've been hilarious and embarrassing as fuck.
