I really don't care about Thomas's politics. As long as you don't soapbox about it (and I don't think he is)
derp

And what do you think this act is, hmmmm? Taking the day away from his teammates and making the story all about him and his views. There's your soapbox.

What a dick, but I shouldn't be surprised considering he's a Glen Beck fan. Ye gods.

Awww yeah Kadri!

Wait it's not his? Dammit I don't care I'm posting this anyways:

I don't care about his opinions

I care that he decided to make a celebration as a team, which is a tradition, and turned it into a personal political protest

For someone who declined to go to the white house for non political reasons, he just couldn't help but spread the stupidity of his political beliefs

He insulted Obama, pissed on the federal government, sure. But I'm more pissed that he embarrassed the sport of hockey

I'm imagine youre REALLY pissed at the Leafs considering how long they've been an embarrassment to the sport then.

Yep.

There have been 'snubs' in the past, but normally the person doesn't give an explanation (Jordan with Bush) or may cover it up with 'schedule conflict' (NASCAR drivers with Obama). Tim Thomas is far from the first athlete invited to the White House to have "opinions", but, so far as I know, he is the first to make his absence explicitly political.

So Dave Hodge thinks Thomas is a KKK member.
Oh jesus not this

I consider the fact that no one had a clue what his political views were until he was forced to address why he didn't attend the event at the WH not getting on a soap box. I have no problem with him explaining himself, if he was babbling about his views at random and unprovoked, then I would.

Here's the Sestito hit on Horton from Sunday. (3:56 of clip)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz707r9mEyk&feature=player_detailpage#t=236s

Seems to fit all the Shanaban talking points:

High hit.
Vulnerable position.
Injured player. (concussion)
Previous offenses.

No word on hearing as of yet.
Another angle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz707r9mEyk&feature=player_detailpage#t=227s

High hit? Concussion? There was zero contact with his head. If Horton is suddenly that sensitive to hits, I'd fear for his future.

Dr. Recchi?

UHHHHHHH

Agreed that it was late and Horton was vulnerable, though. Not sure what the precedent is with hits like that which don't target the head.

Dancing around the question is exactly what Pia Sundhage did even though it was clear to everyone that she as and HBT person and as a person who has spoken pretty supportive of Fidel Castro.

The KKK thing is just stupid. What kind of professional journalist drags in a persons kids when he tries to make the most vague connection ever.

He didn't have to get into all the political bullshit in his reasoning though. There were plenty of other excuses he could have used.

Slander his family? The kids didn't pick their names.

Tim is a member of the family. By association you would have to assume his wife would support his beliefs if he was actually a KKK member. Not quite the stretch Hodgson is making but it works.

But hey, lets invoke his young childrens' names so we can all have some cheap laughs.

Forced to address? Other athletes have skipped in the past without comment or have just given other excuses. And many, many more have just sucked it up and gone out of respect, even when their fans have compelled them to skip (NASCAR drivers invited by Obama).

I figured you of all people would have enjoyed hearing that Thomas is such a right wing nutjob.

I love it that you think you have me figured out, and then you don't. Other than that, I could really care less what Thomas thinks, seems like some overreacting on some people's part but whatever, not like it effects me.

Way too much political bullshit on this page. Thomas made a decision and then spoke about it. What's there to discuss that is actually relevant?

This, seriously who cares?

Let's just watch some hockey now. So go Wings!!

Do we even know if Tim cares about his wife's thoughts on the names? I'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here...everything I've read about the guy seems to indicate that he's a straight up cave man.

coincidentally everytime I hear Kessel speak it seems to indicate some sort of incest in his family tree.

Well I think I'll turn on that Wings/Blues game and enjoy some hockey!
