Nintendo Switch 2 Lite , where yat

Hoping for a day one drop with the next Animal Crossing game rumored for early 2027. Im more of a road warrior with my switch 2, barely docked. Would happily trade it in for a themed Switch 2 lite, although Nintendo rarely releases a new product thats themed… any leaks yet on Switch 2 lite?

The rumors right now are for a Switch 2 OLED, unfortunately nothing in the rumor mill for a Switch 2 Lite yet, but I don't see why they wouldn't release one eventually.

I think a Switch 2 Lite is tougher to do this time around for obvious reasons. The manufacturing cost saving ratio wouldn't be the same as it was on Switch 1. The percentages are all out of wack now. The saving they'd be able to pass on by simply not having a dock and making the joycons integral wouldn't knock the price down as much as it did for Switch 1. In fact, I think Nintendo has at least one more price increase already on the calendar. The BOM kinda demands it.

With the joycon mouse feature, how would they handle that on a Lite? I guess they could never make a game require it.

Unless they want to hard cap themselves at a lot lower sales numbers vs S1, they need hardware that is $400 or less. A lot of folks won't buy multiple S2s for the households due to pricing.

I had S1 OG, S1 OLED and S1 Lite. So me and the kids each had their own Switch. That ain't going to happen with S2.

if they ever make a Switch 2 Lite, it better have TMR or Hall Effect sticks, because if not, I'd never even remotely consider getting one.

also they should not remove the TV out capabilities this time either. just don't make/bundle a dock with it and let people use third party docks if they want

I feel that, my kid is going to get my Switch 1 pretty soon but there's no plans to get any current or next gen console for him currently. Unfortunately with the tech economy the way it is, I don't even know if Nintendo could manufacture a Switch 2 Lite at a $400 price point anymore. My guess is we're going to see another price increase of the Switch 2 to $550 late next year, and maybe the Switch 2 Lite could launch at $450 alongside it as a more affordable option.

I do have both PS5 and XSX which I got at launch, and that was fine (with the cost at the time) since you only need one per household.

For Switch though, the whole point in hybrid is that kids could have their own consoles to play. And like you said, with S2 likely prices over next few years S2 Lite won't save the day.

Instead I gave my kids my Steam Deck LCD and RG556 loaded with games and emulators. S2 is mostly used either hooked up to a TV or one at a time.

With the cost of components nowadays, I don't see how they could even create a 'budget' Switch 2 lite. If anything is within their control, have a dockless SKU of the regular size model.

Dock itself yeah, they should drop, but they should keep the option for it on device which costs like $5 for them or less.

Maybe no dock, a smaller screen, integrated joycons and a bit of optimization could save like $75-100. Would be better than nothing as an option.

I wonder if people even want a smaller Switch nowadays, since we've gotten used to these larger screens? Especially since they aren't going to come remotely close to the pricing for the original Lite.

that's a far more realistic path for sure

Switch 2, no dock, no HDMI cable.

only thing in the package is the system, the joycons, and a simple USB-C charge cable (so not even a charging brick, as anyone already has one anyway)

I actually kinda expected them to have such an SKU at launch last year due to the prices already getting out of control back then.

The issue is that Dock and HDMI cable are pretty inexpensive to manufacture so what would the savings even be, $50?

A smaller screen and integrated joycons might cut another $30-50. They really need a $400 device vs $500-550 (will almost guaranteed to go up again next year).

The cost issue for hardware now is more on storage and ram (storage contract price up 100%~200% vs it is one year ago, ram price also rise a lot, consider how the lpddr5x ram demanding increase, Nintendo is facing bigger and bigger pressure), if it's a lite version, it will not cut ram to add extra workload for developers, then if it cut storage by half, will customer accpet consider how NS2 game size range now and how expensive the storage is now. And even they cut hdmi, dock and e.t.c., then the cost of ram and storage will be even bigger partition of the bill of material. Some other hiden questions:
  • lite means another production line, this increase a lot cost in production.
  • consider Nintendo is forced to release a battery-replaceable NS2 in EU, a lite version also mean it has to release a battery-replaceable NS2 lite

You never understood Nintendo's pre-Switch handhelds then. Being able to carry them in your pocket was glorious.
Yeah, while I love the larger screen handhelds I miss the days of just grabbing my 3DS or Vita and putting it in my cargo shorts pocket or whatever. I only took my Switch/Steam Deck/Legion Go out of the house in situations where I had a backpack.

I definitely do :pie_open_mouth:. For me it's my secondary gaming machine after my PC, and I like the idea of basically having a new 3ds plus it being cheaper than the main version. That said, I feel like they've been smart making most of their big titles cross-gen so far, so the og Switch Lite is still viable. Maybe they can push back the Switch 2 Lite until IT becomes more viable? You're right that it'd be a shame to have such low savings...

Maybe they could include no storage drive at all and have it as an optional extra? Their og Switch Lite included storage is so tiny I had to buy a 1tb drive for it anyway.

I'm old and I can barely see the current Switch 2 screen in handheld.
Do you wear glasses? If not, consider getting a pair.

I don't use my Switch in handheld mode because it gets tiresome after a while. Switch lite was very light, but drift issues and the lack of an easy way to connect(cables can brick it?) it to a tv make it a no go for me. If they can fix those issues, it'll be the perfect handheld for me.

They could drop the storage to 128 but Im not sure it would make much difference in the cost.

Let's be honest do they even have enough of a line up too justify a new SKU being added? Lite was 2 and a bit years after OG.

Am I the only one that wants Ninendo to make a SW2 console only no handheld option? I've taken mine out the dock literally only a handful of times since I bought it on launch.
If they offered a console box only option I'd 100% have went for that instead. It'd be cheaper too.
