Brightis (PSX) got a fan translation

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

Finally, after so many years and attempts, the game has been translated to english!

Released in 1999, Brightis is a 3D action-adventure game for the PSX with a focus on combat, exploration and puzzles.
Developed by Shade, a subsidiary of Quintet who are better known for their SNES games Soulblazer, Illusion of Time/Gaia and Terranigma.

That's one heck of a screenshot. Good use of a skybox to make the world beyond seem huge, and in fact a part of the rendered terrain we see around us. Very cool.

Yeah the visual desing and art direction are something else. It's what made me interested in the game, it looks so damn cool.

Nice one TintoConCasera TintoConCasera

Reminds me of a game I'm looking for. But it's tough to say it's that one. Its hard to believe since it was never translated, so it may have not dropped in EU.

All I remember is it was similar stuff to this. Basically sword, shield, hacking some enemies/mobs and I remember a big loading screen and that MC was jumping from some cliff after cutscene and it never did load after that, like disc was scratched there or smth.

That being said it was lended from my friend during PSX / PSOne era and his dad was a sailor so he might have had picked it up somewhere, and since I was between 8 to 10 years old I might have played it Japanese and never knew, lmao. It's not like I was fluent in English then, and games then weren't translated to my language anyways.

Do you have to do push-ups for using wrong pronouns in this one?
Lmao no, not that I'm aware of. Translation is "localized", but it's basically "ye olde english" rather than a normal translation.

There's some drama going on and the original team that worked on this before got so piss mad at this coming out before their translation that they've gone back to working on it lol, so very soon we'll have two translations: this one localized, and the other one which should be more faithful to the original script but who knows.

This translation is quite weird. Like you said, a bit old-time/Shakespearian but at the same time it feels like some sentances are written by someone who don't really knows english. Like they prioritised trying to be poetic and flowery over making sense.

But it IS understandable and, so far, it hasn't hindered gameplay.

I belive the translator excuse is that there's really not much space to display text so he had to reduce some sentences here and there, which might make it sound weird.

Personally, I don't mind the Shakespearian aproach, I think it fits this kind of game. You playing it man? How is it?

It's not horrible in any way, just some of the sentences are built a bit unnatural/weird.

Yeah, I played through the intro and explored the town, interacted with the NPCs and stopped at the first dungeon. It's an impressive game for it's time. And after I re-mapped R1 & R2 (turn left/right) to the right stick it feels almost modern in it's controlls.

Gave it a go and I agree with SomeNorseGuy SomeNorseGuy , game's definetly ahead of it's time for sure. The camera controls are very nice and the game allows you to learn a ton of new attacks and customize your character with them, kinda like in God Hand.

Did the tutorial area and the first dungeon: here both visuals and music were very enjoyable, and the dungeon has a puzzle and a few surprises which was a nice change of pace from all the combat. Atmosphere is great too.

Quite happy with the game so far, and definetly will keep playing it.

It's impressive stuff indeed, put some more time into it and played around with the purchable weapon skills/slashes, arts & dances. Some real depth there, even saw a skill that let's you swoosh by the enemy and hit them in the back. Will probably be great for guarding enemies. And the reach of different weapons is a cool detail.

On my setup the d-pad functions as a more precise option then the left stick for movement input (F, B) in combos.

While in town...
Check behind the waterfall for an extra dungeon, only did a few rooms but it seems like it's a challenge dungeon where the e emies and rewards gets harder and harder.
