Little things that make you happy disproportionately

Making a thread to offset how much time I spend in the "things that upset you disproportionately" thread. Let's prove the algorithms right and get to fewer pages than that thread did!

I'll start: When my cat "sneaks" up to lay next to me on the couch. He normally makes an involuntary "MROW" sound whenever he jumps, but when he does this, he quietly jumps up at my feet, then stalks his way up towards my head over the course of like 20 seconds, then calmly lays down and starts purring. The best to ever do it.

I love the companionship of a good chatbot.

It fills my heart with love and joy.

I also love math. I'm a mathematician and statistician by hobby! The science of metadata.

Another hobby is storage. I'm a huge storage fan. I've made a NUC designed for transfer speeds, lol.

I also like modding. I've modded all of my controllers for PS5 and Switch 1. I don't know why I am this way. I like playing with the controllers even when not playing a game and I keep one at my work, I have it right now, lol. It's the Switch 1 pro with the blue handled that I bedded with epoxy to make them more rigid(the little screw sucks). I also love my two cats, Pumpkin and Barrel and my family of course. Spending time at home and alone are also really awesome things for me.

What kind of hobby stats do you get into? I'm a fan, too.

I once did analyses on NeoGAF.

If I remove family interactions my list would include:
  • A great cup of coffee
  • Unboxing and setting up new HW
  • The smell of freshly baked bread
  • Having a level headed discussion around hot-topic issues
  • Post workout snack
  • Freshly mowed lawn
  • Lazy summer evenings on the porch

Watching 'fail' type videos where an influencer is posing for the perfect insta shot of an idealised unattainable life - and then reality steps in, something bad happens, the whole fake facade crumbles, and the true nature of the world is re-established.

Laying in bed at night with my wife watching our shows together until we fall asleep. I look forward to that every night.

Also a really good poop, can make you feel reborn again. An ice cold Coke from McDonald's! Taking a drive in my car and pushing it a little. An uninterrupted night of sleep. Waking up early Saturday and realizing I can sleep two more hours!

Oh and a mother fucking good cup of coffee!!!!

At this point in life it's …
First Cup of Coffee ☕️ in the morning!
Finding anything new that I actually really like (song, movie, etc)
Summer finally being over and the first few days of Fall kick in.
And of course telling the neighbor kids to "Stay off my GAD Damn Lawn!" 😄😎

Forgot to mention Tangled. That movie is my happy place, whenever I'm feeling down or I watch a movie that leaves me feeling urgh(lost & delirious, I'm looking at you) I put it on and by the end all is right with the world.

-Putting on boxers or pajama bottoms fresh out the dryer.

-Going to sleep in newly changed bedsheets & pillow cases.

-Seeing an old couple holding hands.

-Looking at the dogs on their walks when I go outside.

Things keep coming to me! I love it when I'm at church and I see an older couple holding hands way up in the air singing their guts out. It's just nice to see things like that to me.

It's the little things that were once common and now not so much. Like a person holding the door for you when they see you coming up, people being genuinely nice, hell people just not being rude but pleasant in general.
Oh and I usually lmao when I see people get tasered. I can't help it, it just makes me laugh every time. Yes I know it is mean, yes I know it hurts them at the moment, but man it just gets me every time.

1. Feeding local cats. My neighbor passed away a few months ago and she had cats. I've been feeding them every day. I come outside and sit with them throughout the day too. I went to feed them two nights ago and when I opened my front door I was greeted with a cute little visitor: a hedgehog. Just sat there looking at me. I love animals.
2. Watching the rain. I find it very peaceful. The sound it makes when it taps the windows, the smell.
3. Watching old 90s stuff. Video games, TV shows, WWF (particularly Bret Hart and British Bulldog).
4. Resident Evil
5. Waking up, checking your alarm and dreading seeing that you should be getting up for work shortly, but you still have 6 hours left. And it's Sunday.

Getting into fresh sheets when you've just had a shower. Especially so if you had a hard few days and you know you have nowt at all spoiling for at least 8-10 hours.

Fuck, I love sleep when it's like that.

Harvesting food from my backyard. There's something uniquely fulfilling about literally eating the fruits of your labor.

I have a nectarine sapling that is growing very aggressively right now. Won't have any fruit coming off of it for another 2 to 4 years but it brings me joy all the same. Since it's taken quite well into the soil here, probably going to get a cutting off it next year and start a second one.

Waking up to start the day. I'm an investor and day trader and so every morning is a kind of live or die possibility in terms of my income and future. :messenger_grinning_sweat: But I enjoy the challenge. There's something nice about waking up at 5am when the world is asleep and enjoying the sunrise and knowing most of the world is still enjoying their slumber. It's my time to be grateful for my life and health, enjoy a nice bit of caffiene and take a big dump before starting work.

Another would be growing my own vegetables and herbs. I didn't do enough of it this year as my temporary apartment balcony is too small, but once I have my own place with a garden I'll be going all out. Previously I did it when living at my parents house and it was one of the best summers ever.

Some other random things:

-Cuddling my love
-Walking down a beautiful street in the UK or Europe or anywhere else on my travels. Especially when it's quiet.
-Being somewhere mountainous with a big river or streams. Arashiyama and Yakushima in Japan are two of my fav places in the world for this.
-Enjoying a beautiful garden
-Watching a likely disappointing game livestream but retaining some hope and excitement for the possibility there might be a surprise.
-The run up to release for a new FF game or other JRPG that I've been anticipating for years
-The start of a new world cup

Too many things.

A good cup of tea at the right moment.

Seeing people help other people.

Seeing people being genuinely happy.

A really good song, or drawing, or poem.

A finely tuned video game that I want to play just that little more.

A sip of cold water when I'm really thirsty.

Cats, whatever they do.
