Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

This mod makes the game look so much better, what the hell was Capcom thinking? The game looks so flat without RTGI and RTAO

It's also a long legacy of RE engine partnerships that dates back to, RE2, RE village and so on (which were dogshit in RT)

When an engine has path tracing hidden renderer built-in but has no denoiser (an AMD problem)...

If we follow AMD's very own wording for their AMD Featured games : Developed in collaboration with AMD engineers

Would AMD lie to us winjer winjer ?

Those images are from Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

At least there's talk of path tracing added after launch 🤞
Partnered with AMD

Gotta hide the features that your competition would perform better at
How do you plan to reconcile these two statements? Pick a lane :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Ah I looked this morning on cell phone and thought it was dragon dogma 2 from Gonzito Gonzito 's post.

Didn't know peoples were already tweaking the demo of onimusha

Ah ok. Now it all makes sense.

Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe Has "Large Scale" Linear Map and Better Graphics Than Shadows

The next mainline entry in the franchise is reportedly still targeting June 2027 and will retail for $70 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.

they also allege that graphically, Hexe "is dark and a lot better than Shadows."
"They have taken the negatives from Shadows and turned it into a masterpiece designed to bring your attention. When Ubisoft said it was dark,
it is." Apparently, a mid to high-tier PC is ideal for the "best quality."

holy shit
better than shadows?

Black Flag is already better than shadows for the most part, so why not?
BF funded the next iteration of their engine, so Hexe as their late-gen title should look the part.
they might have even begun their next-gen overhaul and Hexe could finally be their Unity moment, graphics-wise

Also
What is intriguing to me is Hexe being the darkest of all the AC games; this allows for better art direction and a more atmospheric, deliberate world design.

I am not sure I agree with that statement, I think Shadows looked better than Black Flag tbh

what I don't understand is how can MS and Ubisoft and studios of their ilk possibly hope to hire new talent after the way they have been treating their employees after the launch of their games
they are immediately let go. do they not care or worry about hemorrhaging talent and eroding employee trust ?? what if you need help with your engine or design? you can't outsource everything to India
what did that get you with the PoP remake anyway?

This industry is in shambles because of MS/Sony/ Ubisoft/EA's, etc., greed and incompetence

you might be right
I don't think my opinion truly counts here because I have played neither
but based on ample footage that I have seen of both games, BF stuck me as a better looking game especially with regard to character design and skin shaders
but the foliage and the trees make Shadows look amazing as well, and it is indeed very close

well we all know you are the representative of bad opinions so I am not surprise to hear you like chromatic aberration lol
Artistic intent and me are on the same page. It's the people who disable it who are wrong.

The game would look too clean without it... Like Halo Infinite. Hideous

Ubisoft is one of the few devs that when they say it looks better than last entry, i believe them.

Ubisoft is shit, but top tier on graphical and world/environment design. I think no one can contest this.

Choose one.

It's classic corporate culture. they dont value artists. They dont value their employees in general. A lot of these tech companies are run by bean counters who simply dont understand tech debt because they think short term. Laying off this many people creates a knowledge gap that is simply impossible to make up in the future, but either they dont understand it or just dont care.

I remember how WB went from being one of the few hollywood studios championing directors and artists to literally firing Zach Snyder mid film and replacing him with Joss whedon. Then rushing the movie out. A year later, we found out that a bunch of execs were leaving the company that year, and they wanted the movie out in 2017 to ensure they got their bonuses before they left. And thats the problem with corporations in general. You cannot trust the execs to do right by these massive and long projects because they dont care about the game. They only care about their bottomline. their bonus.

MS made $100 billion in profits last year alone. They dont need the money. But the execs bonuses are tied to showing how they can continue increasing profits. Laying off tens of thousands of developers will reduce operating revenue which in turn will increase operating income. That's basically what it comes down to. They dont believe in AI, but their board does and has tied up bonuses to that. I remember how Satya's incentives were tied to increasing gamepass subscribers for a few years. That was done by the board. Satya put everything day one on gamepass. Regularly gave it away for $1. Bought every studio under the sun to ensure they had a new game every month. Knowing full well it would destroy sales of their own first party titles. Knowing full well it would train users to never buy games. All because his own bonus was tied to it.

Definitely. they have delivered 4 visual masterpieces back to back to back this gen. its time to recognize them for this.

I just wish they made better games. They have 12k employees. Their cutscene quality should be leagues better than what it is today. Their storytelling has simply stagnated since black flag and unity. If not regressed. That cannot happen when you have 12k employees and ubisoft giving you 5-7 support studios and 5-7 years to make every game.

They have worked with LucasFilm and James Cameron and still cant get a game with a decent story out. I really hope Hex being somewhat linear helps them tell an A tier story on par with the best of Naughty Dog and Rockstar.

Technically Black Flag is an upgrade. they have improved their asset quality. They have improved their RT denoiser leading to better RTGI coverage. Character models are better.

The difference is that AC Shadows had an incredible art team that created a massive open world with 4 different seasons and like a dozen different weather conditions that completely transformed the game at times. It isnt better looking because it has better tech, it's better looking because the artists went ham making sure every area looked jaw dropping in different conditions.

I dont think Black Flag got the same love. The lighting tech here is incredible and you can see it some cities where they go all out with candles and lamps lighting up the towns. Then there are other levels where they just dont put in the same number of lights at night, and it looks incredibly flat and ps3 quality. Maybe it was for performance reasons because the framerate does take a hit when all those candles and lamps come on, but at the end of the day, the tech can only take you so far.

There are other things the game is doing better. Foliage is a massive upgrade over Shadows. I think the lighting transitions are jaw dropping. Especially in the ocean. Dawn and sunset both look way better than they did in AC Shadows which also looked beautiful during those times.

This is after sunset, but before it gets dark.

It has absolutely regressed. Unity's story is not good. The only good/decent AC stories since Black Flag were Rogue and Origins.

And Origins has the potential to be one of the best AC stories, especially when coupled with the Hidden Ones DLC imo, but the design around RPG and open world mechanics kinda fucked it up a bit imo.
Like I distinctly remember accidentaly killing Acient Ones when I was roaming around the open world before ever getting a quest to kill them and then being extremely confused about what happened. In theory it's cool that you can kill primary assassination targets before you get quests to do that but in practice it wasn't very good for the game's story telling imo.
But Bayek and Aya were awesome protagonists and I would not mind a Bayek sequel at all.

But yeah, other than these two games every other AC game story in the past 10 years has been mediocre at best (Unity and Syndicate) and straight up terrible at worst (the rest of the modern AC games).

For origins i liked bayek but he was a bit too much of a beta with his wife if memory doesnt trick me, like she was the strong and smart one in the couple and he always did what she said.

I liked the incipit of revenging the son but the whole plot was kinda of a wet fart with some good moments like that particular death of an npc...

Ac games almost always start nice, even odissey and shadows had a decent beginning but they just cant maintain the same quality for the whole game.

People say the ezio trilogy were good aswell, never played them.

Yea I'll never understand chromatic aberration in a video game unless you do a cam footage one

"color fringing" or "purple fringing," is an optical defect that occurs when a lens fails to focus all colors of light to the exact same convergence point.

Why would that be if I am looking through a character's eyes

Always the first thing i turn off. This, vignette and film grain. Artistic vision my ass.

Ezio being the most liked and fleshed out protagonist is easy to explain, he had 3 games + 1 short movie that span his entire life literally from birth to death. Literally no other AC protagonist has had that amount of time and focus dedicated to them, even now in Resynced they just added a few tid bits to Edward's story here and there but nothing major like for example making a new game or DLC about his time as an assassin in London.
But yeah the story telling is very good in Ezio's trilogy relatively speaking to most AAA game stories and Ezio is very likeable and charismatic.

Yes

Especially in the SCI-FI genre...

If it wasn't the artists intention, then they wouldnt put it in by default...
It fits this game so i wouldnt turn it off. Same goes to film grain for me. Like the order 1886 for example. Playing that with film grain and CA off should be punishable by death!

Excited for this one. So this wont be fully open world but bigger open zones that looks better than shadows and dark, grim atmosphere? Count me in

All games are trying to replicate cinema through simulating a camera. The intent is rarely to replicate human eyes.

3rd person games are cameras following the character. And first person games are PoV cameras too. There is no gaze, blink, stereoscopic vision etc. But there is plenty of Bokeh DoF, lens flares, bloom, motion blur, film grain and CA. All defects of cameras. Stuff in first person games like a slow blink or vignetting/reddening due to low health are simply artistic flourishes or videogame-y concepts. The underlying imagery would still behave like a camera.

VR games are slightly better as motion blur can mess you up and stereoscopic vision is necessary for it to work. But otherwise, even those tend to behave more like stereoscopic PoV cameras than real eyes.

It's certainly a divisive topic. I hate CA as well, especially when modern cameras don't produce that much CA, though I don't mind some film grain or motion blur. But it was never about actual eye behavior. They literally choose camera lenses that they want to simulate as part of the game design and early art direction phase.
