Should I buy an Xbox?

I know it seems like an obvious no, but I have no console and I don't want t to support Sony anymore. The only other choice I would have is the Switch 2. I can't afford some pricey gaming laptop either unless someone wants to link me to a fairly affordable one. But yeah, I want that white Series X. I mainly want a way other than PS5 to play GTA6 and PC like GamePass right now and the ability to buy games and play them in the loud. If only GTA6 could be playable in the cloud. 😞

I'd say no, unless you have the money and don't mind the fact that you'll be spending a bit of money on a dying platform. If you never played older gens of Xbox, I'd say yes, to get a chance to play a bunch of solid games not on PlayStation that are cheap.

I have a Series X and I think it's a great machine with a solid library spanning back to the original Xbox. I'll be getting GTA VI that way as well.

Dude get a Macbook and play browser-based solitaire

If being able to play GTA6 at launch is your priority, yes.
Other than that, hard no. Especially if you have a decent PC.

Switch 2 has a better future prospect than series. But gta 6 may never come. wait for pc release and upgrade gpu then.

I'd have said invest in a nice desktop PC, but that's gonna be incredibly expensive right now. And a Switch 2 is a great console, but it won't get you GTA 6, at least not natively. On the other hand isn't the Xbox console on the way out? Seems like a waste of money if you've already got a ps5, which it sounds like you do. I'd say fuck principles, be practical for now and be principled when it comes time to decide what your next gen console will be (or if you switch to PC).

You're splitting hairs between 2 shitty corporation. What are you going to do in a few years when Microsoft launches Helix without a disc drive?

Just choose the box that plays the games you want.

OP doesn't seem to have a problem with digital games if he's willing to use gamepass and wishing for cloud games :pie_thinking:. He must have a different problem with Sony.

He says he has no consoles, but he also said he can no longer support Sony, so I am guessing he most likely does not have a PS5.

On topic OP, if you have a great existing XBox library or a gamepass subscription, get the Series X. If you have a large PS library get the PS5. If you have a huge Steam library save for a PC with at least Nvidia 5060 Ti 16 GB or AMD 9060 XT 16 GB GPU. Whatever you do, do not buy underpowered, unupgradable crap like the Steam machine.

Oops, I missed that part of the post somehow
It is quite confusing, I do not understand how he was supporting Sony in the past without a console. If he was buying Sony PC ports, then he must have a beefy rig as most Sony ports are quite demanding. Then, there is no point in buying an Xbox or a PS. GTA VI will be ported to PC eventually.

Yeah I don't really get it, but anyways, in that case, I'll go back to recommending you invest in a nice desktop PC. Bigger up-front cost, but much more longevity at this point, and objectively much more bang for your buck since you'll have access to just about every game ever made including GTA 6 in a year or whatever.

Back compatibility
Positron disc to digital transfer

Quick resume
A much better store and customer service

Helix in 2027, but if you can afford it might as well get in now with a Series X.

In the past if it was a normal generation, these would be extremely cheap and an impulse buy. At full price now? you would have to be crazy to buy one now.

Odd question this late in the generation, but i understand the why.

Personally this late i'd buy second hand where possible, particularly if you are only buying the console for 1 game.

If your budget is too limited for a PC and you want GTA, i'd actually recommend getting an Xbox Series X, but only if you can find a good used or refurbished deal. Buying it new is ridiculously expensive.

I love my Series X. It's a great console, and there are tons of games for it at this point. But I just can't advise anyone to pay $600 now. If you can find a used Series X for a reasonable price, go for it. And if you're interested in Game Pass I'd say go.

Buy whatever you want, the days of BraveHeart have unfortunately passed.

- Buy an Xbox to punish Sony?: Microsoft Xbox has laid off around ~16,500 workers this generation. And it's not over yet. A single AAA studio is about 500 workers, do the numbers and think about the magnitude....
- Buy a Playstation 5 to punish Xbox?: Sony has eliminated the physical game from 2028.
- Buy a PC to punish consoles?: It is ridiculous to buy hardware without discs... and besides, if the games you like are on console, in the end you punish yourself.

If you want the PS5, buy it, but don't subscribe to PSN plus. 50/50 punishment

  • You have nothing,
  • you don't want to support Sony,
  • you need to play GTA 6.
Option 1
  1. Buy a Series X and GTA, subscribe the cheapest tier of game pass, do not buy one single game on X (unless its one of those play anywhere games... but just don't buy it.)
  2. Save the money until they reveal the console specs (Both consoles will have equal firepower again, trust me)
  3. After seeing the official next gen console specs, sell your Xbox, buy a PC with at least the same amount of ram, a processor one notch above the specs, and a "comparable" GPU.
Option 2
  1. Another option is to swallow you pride, buy a used PS5, buy GTA, buy physical versions of the PS5 exclusives you want, so you can resell it later, play everything else on Xbox cloud gaming (Samsung TV, Xbox app, cheap ass laptop etc).
  2. 3. Same as above...

I actually rebought a Series X last week due to the news about the price increases (I'd had a Series X since launch but sold it in 2023 after it seeming like all Xbox games would come to PS5). It had nothing to do with Sony's digital only future as I'm digital only on PS5 anyway.

The thing that swung it for me was I looked at my PS5 wishlist of current and future games then looked up Game Pass. The money saved from playing them on GP instead of buying them on PS5 almost paid for my Series X alone. Then I get to play Gears E-Day and any future exclusives as a cherry on top.

It's a beautiful console in terms of looks and design with a great controller. I also forgot about the multiple games running quick resume (amazing feature). I've now also got a 4k Blu Ray player for the new Sopranos box set.

I'm currently replaying GTAIV at 60fps and really enjoying it.
