But I do. Even the American commentators were like "With the way we are playing in this WC, we can cruise through quater final". Barely anyone in American media proclaimed this match was going to be hard for them. They were more focused on discussing whether if they were going to play against Portugal or Spain.

Homer commentators will do that.

If you think that'd bad, you should had watched the Canadian telecasts on TSN. You'd think they are world cup contenders talking about how good the team's qualifying records are in the past. I dont know soccer, but whomever Alistair Johnson is they talk about him a lot and gets on mic answering Q&A like he's a world all star. And Alphonso Davies is like the country's soccer equivalent of Wayne Gretzky.

The best thing about soccer is that the games are 2 hours. I love CFB but it is hard to watch more than 1 3.5 hour game per week. I got shit to do. I'm probably going to stick around for the rest of this World Cup. This sport is great when you are watching the top players.

Like half the point of commentators is to gas up the home team so people watch. My local baseball team has been terrible for 40 years but if you only listened to the commentary you'd think we were always in the middle of a dynasty.

US team just not ready to hang with the big boys yet: if this is how we look against Belgium, being able to compete with the likes of Argentina or France is definitely out of reach. The good news is that I think the athletic talent is mostly there, but it needs a lot more seasoning with experience and better coaching. We also need an ascendant scorer to emerge.....I could see Balogun or Tillman being that guy in another 4 years.

Belgium are a team with experienced, world class players who play in the best leagues in the world. The score wasn't a surprise.

The problem is that football isn't your number one sport. It's not in your DNA. It's not a religion.

American Football, Basketball, Ice Hockey and Baseball are all bigger sports in the US.

Honestly, if I was the US I would focus on Rugby. In 2031 the US host the Rugby World cup and honestly, as a Rugby fan, the US team isn't half bad.

The good news is that Rugby is easier to play and a lot of the skills from American football translate well to Rugby. I'm actually shocked that the US aren't already a Rugby power nation like France or New Zealand. They should be with the player pool they have.

Not a chance. One is 25 and the other is 24. Both of them are not banging in the goals in France or Germany and nowhere near being world class strikers.

Soccer is #4 sport in the US, above Hockey and is catching up to Baseball, especially after this WC.

I can't see it overtaking the American pastime of Baseball.

I would love to see an English sport dominant the USA, but I can't see it. NFL and NBA is in your DNA, football isn't.

To be a great football nation, you need to live, breathe and eat football. It needs to be bigger than religion. In fact, it needs to be a religion. The US are far from that. In fact, I'd say NFL and College American football is the sporting religion of the US and always will be. I used to think footy would be the number one sport in the US, but there is no way it will take over NBA or NFL.

It's a culture thing. NFL, NBA ans MLB are a cornerstone of American culture, footy isn't. That isn't a bad thing. It's what makes the US great, and this unique culture is spreading. NFL is getting a pretty big following in Europe, especially the UK.

As I said in my previous post, although the US are far from becoming a massive football nation, they could easily be a great Rugby nation. You already have the talent for Rugby and are hosting the 2031 World cup. I could actually see the US being world contenders in Rugby in the not too distant future. The US team rugby logo also goes hard and I have a massive soft spot for the US Ruby team.

You're in the world cup next year in Australia and looking at your group, I fancy the US reaching the knockout stages.
 
Defeated by not even a country. That's a new low, cousins at the other side of the pond.

To your credit it seems like the players went on demoralised and with little to no intention of winning, given the unfair circumstances. So even selfish elite sports cunts raised in privileges have better moral compass than many on the Internet.
