It's just still not a sport that enough of us find cool enough to imagine a career in. That is a downside to variety. It drains that pool and something is getting left behind.

Soccer becoming more popular than baseball I could see. I don't personally know anyone who asks if I saw that Yankees game last night. I always hear talk about the NBA, NFL, and even NHL. If any sport in the US gets overtaken by MLS, it'll be MLB. But that still puts us probably a decade or more away from cultivating the talent we need
