FIFA World Cup 2026 - It's Called Football, Not Soccer!

If America plays with Balogun, nobody will take USA seriously in this tournament.
I've just spent a month watching grown men rolling on the ground crying every time they were grazed against. There's no integrity in this sport (or most sports really). You do whatever gives you the best chance at winning.

US had to play a man down for 35 minutes in a knockout round for a red card that never should have been given. That's punishment enough for unintentionally landing on some dudes ankle.

Is it unreasonable to ask for a clear line for offsides?

Is it unreasonable to just stop the clock when play has stopped and resume it when play starts again, instead of adding questionable amounts of time onto the clock later?

Is it unreasonable to think an official shouldn't have the power to unilaterally ban someone from a future game? Especially if the call was bogus?

Is it unreasonable to want big titty goth cheerleaders?
Explain how you would have a clear line for offsides you lunatic. A line every inch up the pitch?

We all know what should happen, but it won't. Hope after this World Cup Gianni Infantino is kicked/voted out. Absolute embarrassment.

There's not a whole lot of difference between these two red card challenges. Both were missed by the on-field ref. The England one was higher speed, the USA one seemed more likely to cause injury.

I fully expect the England player's punishment to be suspended, as it's not fair to have to play without your full team available, right?

What is offsides? Is it arbitrary? Is it based on player positioning and not a set spot on the field? Because frankly, if it's either of those, the offsides rule should probably change to fixed positions on the field like any other sport. A clearly defined area where you know you can't play the ball unless a condition is met and not just simply leave it up to the eyes of a ref to let you know after you kicked a game winning goal that, no, sorry. You weren't on the proper side of an invisible line.

One player is looking straight at the other player sliding into home cleats up.

The other is looking downfield for the ball while the guy is partially behind him on his blindside in an entanglement. One in which he instantly lifted his foot when he felt it on a player instead of using full weight to maintain balance.

Red cards gets given to those sort of steps all the time, it was a bit harsh because it was not intentional, but it's no crazy red card, he stepped in in a dumbass way and paid the price.

Even so, bad calls happen all the time, you just have to take it and move on with it. It's not possible to play this sport with constant questioning and changing cards retroactively.

It's a good call because running entertainment the way Vince McMahon would is the best way to increase revenue and attract eyeballs.

Nobody is turning off the soccer games because Trump got involved. Quite the contrary.

Alternatively, stepping on your opponent's ankle is almost always seen as dangerous play, regardless of whether he's behind or to the side of you.

The England player won the ball with that challenge, but because of how he fell, his leg hit the top of the ball and made his foot bounce up like that.

They're both accidental.

Context and nuance matters.

Many ex players, coaches and footyball analysts said it was a bogus call just with how it played out with him looking downfield and the guy on his blindside behind him.

He doesn't have eyes in the back of his head. :pie_eyeroll:

If only there was such a thing called lazers.

We should invent those for FIFA.
The already have an automated offside system in place.

Why are we making this thread US vs Europe now? Stick to football it's embarrassing

?????

Based on the most recent full-year data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for births in 2024 (released in 2025), the most popular baby names in the UK are:

  • Boy: Muhammad (held the top spot for the second consecutive year, overtaking Noah).
  • Girl: Olivia (held the top spot for the ninth consecutive year).

I'll let you read it here.

And no it doesn't need changing to a fixed position lol.

That's not really the issue here. The problem people are having with it is that Fifa didn't rescind the red card. If it was genuinely such a bad call, USA could have appealed and Fifa could have reviewed it. But they didn't, and the red card stands.

The problem is that they decided to "suspend" the ban due to political intervention, which goes against the rules of the game and every precedent set in the history of the sport.

Wasn't even called a foul until after VAR was misused. But you want Balogun to sit out anyways to protect the integrity of a sport that has someone flopping every few minutes and is ran by organization that gives obvious favoritism to superstars. Why not just get over it and try to enjoy the matches today?

The amount of L takes from US folks is something to behold. :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Can't wait for this WC to be over , stick to your baseballs and Super bowls.
It's like seeing your mate who watched one Netflix documentary suddenly think they're an expert.

What am I reading? Fixed position offsides? That'd end up with two teams in a line at fixed points like some other American sport that I can't quite place.

This is literally the sport and fans over the decades, and always has been...
