As a real fan I can clearly see that this company is now controlled by corporate leeches that had no hand in building PlayStation's success.

PS4 leadership was mostly let go. Shu and Layden now criticize Sony online. Sony's oldest developers at Japan Studio were fired.

New leadership only serves the investors and sees fans as cattle. That's the reason you lose physical games and get a PS6 release during the worst time in an inflation.

Depends on price of the console and if they stopped releasing games for the ps5. I'm not early adopting anymore consoles (closes was switch 2 (purchased it 6 months after launch in fear price increases because of tariffs and memory / ram apocalypse happened).

Frankly people bailing out on Sony and going to Pc might be the dumbest thing I heard in gaming. (Seriously does anyone even remember the last partial release on pc?) Everyone is going digital , just accept the change and hope for great games in the future.

It might be the dumbest thing you've heard if you're not intelligent at all. If you have to buy digital, it's better to buy it on a platform that has competition for prices, easy ways to store your games, one that is form factor agnostic. It's entirely idiotic to commit to a digital platform that can revoke your content, it's difficult to pirate or backup games, etc. One that has no competition and as a result can fleece you on prices and services. More importantly, paying for online is the biggest scam I've ever seen.

After what they did with PSVR2 I won't buy another Playstation.
I got burned with the psvr1, vita, ps vita. Now no discs after I gave these clowns money for multiple ps5 pros and 3 ps5s. Nah, they can go pound sand.

Also, the rumors of a ps6 handheld? You gotta be a sucker to buy with the way Sony has treated every non mainline console.

My PS5 Pro will be my main console for at least 8 years, all things considered. There won't be PS6 exclusive games and I'm not buying the console on launch, whatever its price. Sony deserves a good crash during at least the first 2-3 years of gen.

Yep. The godawful launch of the PS3 changed Sony an important lesson: the customer is king. They tried to do everything right in order to win back the lost market share: the PS3 became great value with a free online service and great 1st party games. The PS4 was a continuation of that effort and ended the generation with absolute bangers.

Now arrogant Sony is back and they've got to be brought down a peg or two.

All digital for two generations. This whole thing is a nothingburger for me.

I will buy a PS6 if they have interesting exclusives. If not, I'll just spend all my time on PC.

I will never understand how anyone sane would defend this, they will force you to pay whatever they want at scam prices but also you lose the ability to resell and lend the game.

Hysterical reactions? I would say reactions like yours are fanboy reactions and I can't believe how anyone is defending that shit no matter if it is Sony Nintendo and MS

So you wait for a sale or buy a month of PS Plus for like €14 and play it on that.

Lack of competition is the one valid fear about the digital plans, but even that is MOSTLY very exaggerated, even with Xbox's troubles. Nintendo are resurgent and Steam is highly respected. Both of them would soon enter the fray to punish Sony if they became too predatory.

Can't vote but i plan to buy a PS6 and the new PS Handheld. I have a huge digital collection on my ps5 pro and it makes no sense for me to switch to another platform.

I have a pro and a 5080. Sony will need to sell me hard on a PS6. I could probably afford one not bragging but I don't really feel the need for next gen right now. Sony has blundered and are quite lucky xbox blundered even worse otherwise they could have been feeling some pain.

They have the momentum from the PS4 generation but that can go away quickly and I'd say the PS5 output from a first party perspective has been pretty dogshit this generation bar a few standout titles. Maybe it's just my taste but they are really starting to miss the tastemakers like Yoshida etc.

Herman Hulst just doesn't have the eye for games. Sony need to course correct quickly as I think they will genuinely lose a lot of goodwill from the hardcore fan base.

Bit of a rant but right now I need them to show me why I need a PS6, I'm not buying blindly.

Between the lack of physical discs, the hacks, the revised TOS that lets them delete your account for inactivity, the ps+ price increases with rumors of more, the complete mismanagement of studios and the GaaS initiative, reducing AAA first party exclusives to one a year when we used to get two or three a year, and most of those first party games are "woke slop" now, the closing of the PS3 and Vita stores, and them deleting movies and shows out of your account...

Why would any of you still be okay with Sony? Explain how PlayStation in 2028 still makes sense to you as a consumer, because I don't get it.

Ah yes the principle of being able to buy a licence to use some code on a plastic disc rather than via an internet download.

No hysteria here at all.
the issues people have about the death of physical media have been explained 100s of times on this forum and elswhere on the internet.

you have a working frontal lobe (i hope), go do some reading.

I'm going to buy, as will the VAST majority of people that play video games. In reality, the amount of people that actually care about this is very tiny.

why is it so hard to believe people are willing to stand by their principles?

i bet its because its impossible for you to imagine having any principles yourself.

Yea, I got no problem so far avoiding all game key-cards and of course I don't buy their digital equivalents either. Makes my Switch 2 pretty useless overall outside of backwards compatability, but hey. I won't be cattle, even if other people want to be just that.

I'm a lifelong PS player, but PS6 will be an easy skip if some of these rumours are true.

PS6 Portable.I stopped buying physical copies of games, because digital ones are much cheaper in my region.
But I think Sony's decision to abandon physical copies is a huge mistake.

Knowing myself i can not confidently say whether or not i will buy a PS6.
At this moment it depends on it's price, how legal proceedings around digital ownership continue and if Sony will even have interesting games at launch.

Hard pass. They've lost my trust as a brand going forward. I will go out of my way to never buy a Sony product ever again. It's not about being digital. I support DRM-free digital content of all types and in some ways like FLAC music, I prefer it. It's about having no other options and no control over your content. I refuse to buy an all digital console be locked to one store with a company that has a history of lack of preservation and changing console architecture.

Too soon to tell. I've had a PlayStation every generation and being digital only won't necessarily be a blocker for me. If there's games I want to play I'll probably get one. But they're going to have to do something about their output first, because quite frankly it's been pretty tepid for me this generation.

When did I say they didn't run offline?!
10 years from now you can still buy a used PS4 from a rando, hook it up without internet, insert a God of War 2018 disc and play after installation. The patches are not that substantial.

digital copies are a whole different story. PS3 and Vita will be dead in that regard in a year.

The westernization of Sony made me bounce off PS5. PS6 will be a skip again unless they get rid of the western influence and return to their roots.

Getting it, the PS6 will be Sony's next PS4 gen...

With the exception of the 1, have a theory that all odd-numbered PS consoles are always bad on some level, and even-numbered ones are great. Odd-numbered consoles are always ugly too. Bad shit just tends to happen.

digital library is on there, been on PS forever.

I don't use discs or physicals for literally anything so idgaf, buying PS6 Day 0. I think I would care more if I was broke or a child though tbh

I have no idea.

What's the cost, what are the features, what is the condition of digital ownership rights by that point, what games are they advertising alongside it, is a physical drive still attainable and usable with it, and does it blow my PS5 Pro so far out of the water that I'm shamed…

I have FOMO disease… but my hope is I hold my ground and they don't offer what I need to make that decision. Because I admit I don't want to support them right now… even though what they decided to do… they just happened to be the ones that jumped on the grenade. Every company just didn't want to be the first.

I'm probably getting this or the handheld. I skipped this generation consoles so might come back. But not sure I might just go S2 instead.

Digital preservation is somewhat of an issue but I'd urge a bit of patience and perspective. This is a new issue. Ideally something will be put in place to make to make older games widely accessible. One never-mentioned aspect of the current landscape is that it's actually way EASIER to enjoy old games now than it used to be, at least in many cases. Booting up something like a PS2 on modern TVs is a colossal hassle, whereas with digital stores and things like Switch Online I can plays hundreds of old games at the touch of a button.

Will probably buy it a few years later unless the next Xbox miraculously has a disc drive in which case I'd flee into the less abusive arms of MS.

All depends on how long it'd take me to finish my PS5 disc backlog.

No safe space friend, sorry. The next console will be underwhelming, overpriced, will get sued to oblivion by 50 different regulators in Europe and the dedicated hardware business will probably look a lot different when it's over.

I started going digital somewhere during the PS3 gen. During the PS4 I went increasingly digital, and by the time of the PS5 I am like 99% digital despite getting the disc drive version initially.

I have a handful of physical games but my digital library at this point eclipses it by orders of magnitude. I have never been someone who bothers with selling my physical games, I'd rather just hold onto them if I have them. So I don't really see how the recent news affects me much personally. I'm almost all digital anyway.
