FIFA World Cup 2026 - It's Called Football, Not Soccer!

How is time of possession calculated?

Canada seems to have the ball more, yet ESPN stats says Morocco has a 60% time possession.

For example, let's say the ball goes out of bounds. It takes time for the other team player to get the ball and throw it in. When does time of possession start for the team throwing it in? When the ball deflects out of bounds or when he actually throws it in? This can apply to free kicks and corner kicks.
It depends, there are many ways, easiest one is counting number of passes and dividing by total.

Complete defensive collapse from Canada. The scoreline isn't really reflective of Morocco's overall performance, but a win is a win, and that's all that matters at this stage.

It looks like Canada just falls apart when they play against a well-rounded team like Switzerland and Morocco.

They basically coasted through the group stage and Rounds 32 and immediately fell apart against the team that knew how to play a decent ball.

Canada was one of the worst teams in the previous round and the worst in the current.

Poor ball control means they're constantly turning over to better teams and they have none of the will to win that some lower ranked countries put forward.

They'll try to chalk it up to injuries but they still have a ways to develop.

Round of 16 without 2 of our best players all tournament, after never earning a point ever in the history of the WC. I'll take it.

Fuck Davies for not playing in this game. No heart.

They dont shoot enough. Looking for crosses to the box. Canada has the hustle, but lack scoring touch to finish.

They break down defensively too. Sometimes too aggressive and then (as seen today) Morocco counters and they get scored on.

But still, a round 16 loss is a big accomplishment and will be celebrated here till next world cup.
