FIFA World Cup 2026 - It's Called Football, Not Soccer!

That was an incredible game. Game of the tournament so far.

I'm both sad to see Cape Verde out of the competition, and glad to see my man Martinez still in it.

Even though they loss, Cabo Verde put up a damn good fight. They will be remembered dearly. May they return again in 2030 💪
Seriously. I thought it would be a slaughter when they added 16 countries to the tournament but I've been very impressed by many of the smaller teams.

You have to really analyze that some of these teams don't play nearly as much as the big teams and their club teams. It's still not as good for the WC but players who play 70 games are going to be more tired than players who don't play as much. It's a catch 22. I still think this should be a 32 team comp.

Keep in mind Spain and Uruguay couldn't break this team. Argentina suffered but did. These are the ones that champions are made of.

Argentina as always suffered but like in Qatar, their championship mettle showed. Remember Saudi Arabia? Everyone wrote Argentina off after that too.
Only with extra time though. If this had been a group game, Argentina would have drew with CV like Spain and Uruguay did.

I wouldn't be so sure as the legs and all that are different at the start. You could argue it could have been another Saudi Arabia but you have to respect this modern Argentina team.

What I mean is that I don't think its fair to say that Spain and Uruguay couldn't break down Capo Verde, but Argentina could.

Argentina got extra time against CV because it was a knockout game. Neither Spain nor Uruguay got extra time as those were group games.

Sorry for the multiple stat drops BUT

Messi now holds the record for the most Man of the Match awards in FIFA World Cup history.

A random comment as well, Darren Fletcher is the best of the broadcasters on Fox's coverage. He does so well in his UK broadcasting. Love that guy.

US viewers are in for a treat with him announcing.

Another Argentina game with tons of weird calls from VAR and the referee. Not surprising.

Honestly, pissed how such weird calls are present on every single match with Argentina. Guess they are really lucky.

Anyway, easily best match of the competition thus far. Cabo Verde had an amazing run.

The nuances the greats like him understand.

Another random vid about Mac Allister around Messi

Sometimes people forget about Messi because he's not bombastic or like Ronaldo. Much more humble and that's why you love him moreso.

More post game stuff this time from De Paul

One thing I noticed some pundits bring up is that Ronaldo got man of the match in the last Portugal how and wondered how. Me too.

At least you can see Messi deserving it more and he ran the whole way till the end of 120m match against Cape Verde.

I didn't even think about it but there were other well more qualified players for MOTM against Croacia.

Same! Like I used to prioritize quality over quantity, but there hasn't been a decline in that so far.
I don't dislike there being 32 teams in the knockout phase but it takes away some of the drama from the group stages having so many 3rd place teams go through.

Same, I'm unsure if I agree with having 48 teams in the tournament. But I don't really dislike it now either because I think it's been a fantastic tournament.

And people probably said all the same things back in the day anyway. Maybe we're just the old farts now.

Hmmm let's see

France will beat Paraguay (boring)

Canada will beat Morocco

Portugal will beat Spain (Very close match, so it'll probably in penalties)

US will beat Belgium

Brazil will beat Norway (another boring)

England will beat Mexico (We gotta have at least one unexpected win, despite rumors that the Cartel has been rigging the matches)

Argentina will beat Egypt (another boring)

AND Colombia will beat Switzerland (bias aside, it'll probably be a close match)

Wow. I checked the boxscore. Ghana had 0 shots on net. I didnt watch the game closely but had it on the background. I knew Columbia was dominating, but didnt know it was that bad.
