PlayStation begin rolling out age verification checks

The way I interpret it is, they check with the mobile network supplier and if the owner of the phonenumber is 18+....
How do they know how old they are. My phone provider doesn't know how old I am....they may know the bday of the person who purchased the phone or plan, but often that's not the user of the phone.

I used to have a prepaid (and therefore anonymous) phone number, but a few years ago (in 2022) that was no longer allowed. Now, any mobile number in Sweden that is not registered with your name and personal identity number will be closed / shut down.

They might have something similar in the UK, but I have no idea.

Edit:
But you are right they do not know if the person actually GETTING the mobile number is the same as the one using the phone, for now I guess they just "trust" it.

My account is over 18 years old, so they better not even try it.
Oh hey, looks like Sony is that retarded.

Are we remastering PSN accounts now too?

I got an email reminder about it. My account is literally older than an adult.

Not to mention I don't even live in the UK anymore, but of course Sony didn't allow me to change regions when I moved (21st century, I guess nobody moves to another country... )

We are going to see this shit everywhere, aren't we?

Why does the world suck so bad these days at damn near everything?
Everything went to shit after the 90's. There is a clear demarcation. Curse of Y2K isn't that things stop working it's that things become enshitified. And here we are.

So as long as I scan my face I'll be allowed to play digital only games....neato

Back in the day we just put a disc in and played the game.....those sure were scary times I mean that could be .......anyone :messenger_ghost::messenger_alien:

Don't you want to be safe GAF? Remember Its not about surveillance capitalism or the corporate data-mining of all that juicy personal data

Its about the children

House passes KIDS Act, advancing child online safety legislation

Back in the day you went to the videogame store with your mom, asked for GTA or resident evil, and have the employee convince your mom that it was actually no big deal and you could totally play those games at 10 yo.

Kids nowdays really have the short hand of the stick, poor guys.
