really? Koblenzer platt usually sounds pretty quirky I'd say. it's a dialect most people would associate with the german carnival I think, because it's relatively close to Kölsch. so to the german ear, that's usually a very funny sounding dialect.

of course maybe your mom doesn't speak koblenzer platt, especially in recent times more and more people either lose their regional dialects or they get toned down due to the homogenising effect the internet has.

She was born in '37 and spent her first 30 years there. To my ear, her accent never wavered, even her practiced English further shaped by Texas/Southern draw/idiosyncrasies and colored by her German accent. Then again, she mostly spoke in English and my Deutsch is casual at best.

Koblenzer platt is a pretty cute accent I'd say. if she spoke that, at least in germany, she would have sounded adorable to most people. and depending on how strong her dialect was, also probably very hard to understand 😅

I'm somewhat joking, but she was a pretty angry lady. German was reserved for rants or for phone calls back home and while you might think those calls would be pleasant, she was pretty hard to get along with. lol

Between her and spending a good chunk of my formative years in Korea, I'm immune to "hard to understand". I used to hop on conference calls with a co-worker who had a customer HQ'ed in Japan and could not for the life of her, understand the English spoken. I just took notes and passed them along as they weren't my customer.

GTA6 sounds vaguely sensual in german actually... at least if you say it in the rights tone.

like G and A legit sound like moans if pronounced slowly. and 6 is just literally pronounced like Sex. so you get 2 moans followed by the word sex.
You need a girlfriend!

honestly, someone being angry and ranting in that dialect would still sound adorable lol.
that entire dialect group at the Rheinland is just a very funny sounding one.
they are sometimes used for comedic effect in movies/TV shows for that reason.

like half the "humor" of one of the most popular german comedy movies of the late 90s was that the main character spoke in a dialect from that area (toned down of course to be intelligible for people who don't speak that dialect)

I dunno man. All I ever heard was:

Thus my ongoing gag.
