GTA VI physical edition won't include discs

The only thing that gives me a tiny bit of hope for a disk version at a later date is that if there's something those fuckers know how to do is how to squeeze every penny they can from people so a disk version would make many people including my retarded ass double dip the game on the same fucking console even before it comes out on PC or PS6...
Digital version then physical then a remaster then PC version. They want to break a record of how much the same game gets bought by the same person.

And when the music licenses run out, they'll start patching tracks out and there'll be no disc with it in original form.

I hope PC users find a way to pirate the crap out of this as soon as possible.

I am genuinely perplexed at the marketing angle on this. Is being able to sell the game at Walmart worth the negative publicity? Surely just making the standard version digital-only would have resulted in less blow-back.

Physical media is now an endangered species, sadly. It's becoming more and more niche, and this GTA VI decision will accelerate that trend. Sony, MS, Nintendo and every big publisher are all doing their part to "slow walk" physical game media to its grave.

I could see Rockstar doing a disc version for the inevitable PS6 release of GTA6. Probably exclusive to some limited collector's edition with other goodies that they'll charge $120-$150 for.

The Game Key Cards are for these greedy western publishers. Nintendo's own 1st party (except for Pokemon since its not completely owned by Nintendo) always contain the full game on the cartridge and require no day 1 patch.
I think Winds/Waves will be on the cart. Pokopia is a but weird because its made by Koei Tecmo and they probably wanted to reduce costs as much as possible.

They are on cartridge but for a while Pokemon games needed a day 1 patch to play. Not sure about the situation now. That said unlike these Western Publishers(Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Warner, Rockstar), they release updated physical cartridge versions which don't need a day 1 patch to play.

What is the point of physical if you can't resell

Goodies in the box?
Hasnt every GTA come with a Map/Poster and Manual?

Though I do think its hilarious they wont even bother doing the CoD way of putting a disc that only has like 300mb of data on it.......they are straight up saying not even a disk.
Then the PC release launches with 9 DVDs.

This time it appears it won't even have those usual goodies though

What are the chances of an official disc version after the initial game release?
Depends on the amount of initial sales, if gta6 sells something crazy like 40-50m copies durning launchwindow(so first 3 months maybe?) then unlikely, but if sales start to dwindle down after first week or two then rockstar might reevaluate and bend the knee.
I think preorder numbers will matter tons here too, if they notice those are below their expectactions w/e it might be, then they got incentive to convince us to purchase maybe day30 physical copy edition.
The problem might be its rumored size of close to 700gigs, but who knows, maybe they could do workarounds with 2-4 bluray disks and day1 patch, but again, that is if they had incentive to care so early preorder numbers gotta be below what they want/expect.

How does a physical edition still be called a physical edition when all it has is a piece of paper telling you to go online and download the game?

Well.. I guess if Nintendo can be allowed to get away with it, then why not everyone else?

Activision have released worthless coasters on Playstation and Xbox before, but they didn't kill the used games market. Samme applies to most Nintendo cartridges without the full game.

Pretty sure every GTA has had a map, I would be legit shook if this one didnt have a map as well.
Every GTA and RDR has had a map. VI doesn't seem to though so I think you can be shook unfortunately...
It also makes sense if you think about it, if it arrives November 12 in the stores there is no way it can have a map in there. Rockstar won't spoil the map of the game 1 entire week before the game comes out.

Get your filthy green rat hands off me 😤

But joking aside. I'm legit only really arsed because I can't get it early, like I have every single game since MGS4 from a local indie shop lol.

But it does suck for people who only buy physical and I'd legitimately angry too if I was one of them. Plus, makes the pro no disc drive backlash look stupid as shit if there's none here at least.

This is an underhanded move, no question. They know folks buy the physical for the opportunity to resell. Even if the disk has nothing on it but what is needed for license verification (it seems like half the games made today are like that anyway), the disk should still be in there acting as the license, not a code. The physical version is literally just a box to clutter your shelf, LOL.

This has nothing to do with leaks. They could have done a DOOM Dark Ages and just put a disc with the license on it. This is about killing 2nd hand sales, renting, or borrowing of the game.

People asking if they can resell the code is hysterical.

But imagine if they do a physical edition with an actual disc for the inevitable PS6 version. The reaction from physical double dippers will just split my sides apart.

Nintendo does that as well. They've quietly updated a lot of their games to have updates already on them.

Don't worry guys, Strauss Zelnick said months ago that the game would be released on physical day one, a CEO wouldn't lie to us would he?

Technically, he's not wrong, for whatever that's fucking worth, lol.

There will be a retail brick and mortar product called GTA VI on store shelves.

I meant the cartridge can be played without day 1 patch. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury has a day 1 patch, but can be played without it. Same with some Sony 1st party games like Spiderman 2 and Ghost of Yotei.

It's stupid to rush a digital pre-order. They're not going to run out
The only time I preorder digital is when I'm trying to be Zeitgeist Batman.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. If the enemy of my enemy is preordering digitally, which it sometimes is, then I'm in. The rest of this is AI related.

I have an AI trained on The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

I can input scenarios and it will tell me how to proceed according to the book. So like, if Hogwarts Legacy 2 came out and I was on reddit but I couldn't post anything good about it, I could just post my digital preorder info and engage thousands. The power of the sun in the palm of my hand. I don't actively post on shiddit but you get my point. It was an example.

I have done some very novel videogame player type things with AI. I've ran self assessments based on my posts on GAF. Apparently I'm prone to hyperbole.
