GTA VI physical edition won't include discs

Damn right. No mom&pop shop shenanigans, no leaks. This is the way

Everyone's being so melodramatic about the precedent this sets. The game is going to be at least 170GB - 200GB without updates, and in my opinion it's understandable that it isn't getting a multi-disc release, because who in the industry even does that?

The alternative is what? Releasing a half baked disc that only a fraction of the audience buying this game will even consider purchasing? What's the point?

A key disc like crimson dessert would definitely be better than this garbage.

If your intention is to resell the game after you've played it, then your issue is with the upfront cost. In that case, you should probably wait for a steep sale or not buy the game at all.

What the fuck are you talking about?

I'm not a fucking stamp collector, why I need to keep something that no longer has any value to me (after finishing SP)? You can sell any physical junk you have, but this game was made unsellable by Rockstar.

If anyone had sense, dont pre order. just wait and buy it the week its out. It wont happen, but its what needs to happen. There is literally no reason to pre order, and it would be the only way to send a message to Take Two.

Ill be hanging fire. Im still excited for the game but there is literally no reason to pre order anytime up until two weeks before. If I see a cracking deal on PSN codes ill get the money and just leave it on my ps5
I dont think I've ever preordered a digital game.

Last time I preordered was a decade or so ago when I still bought discs and E3 would have all stores doing buy 2 get 1 free E3 promos. So I'd buy NHL, COD and get a free third game all shipping in fall.

Never understood preordering games unless the preorder promo is so good it's worth doing. And for me that's something like above. Not BS like double XP weekend, free gun skins, or you get to play the game 2 days in advance.

But it must work. That's why they have those perks. Maybe preorder numbers are giant for games when they toss in free costumes and shit.

There was a physical map on the Special and Collectors edition (+some other goodies for the collectors edition) for PS3 and X360

Good old times...
My $15 greatest hits copy of San Andreas on PS2 had a map.

With 230m copies of gta5 sold, they likely estimate they would hit 300m if no used copies were avaiable, hence they wanna reach that here with gta6 =]
Also, if you get banned from GTA online for being a dick, you can't just make a new account and use the same disc. Have to rebuy the game.

If this is the case, the disc version should come very shortly after.

If it never comes, it's mainly this reason,
That's already the reality of every digital storefront: you're buying licensed access, not transferable ownership. I'm aware those access rights can change over time, but as a consumer, I honestly don't care. I vastly prefer the convenience and benefits of an all-digital ecosystem.

We know this. But not the norm in console game cases.

Why are you getting trigger for? You basically said a useless disc with barely any data is better because it preserves some resale value. My point is that if resale value is of importance and the main reason you want it physically, then the issue is the net cost of playing it. Not sure why that is difficult to understand.

People who would want to sell it back, lend it out, do whatever with it.

Ownership is STILL important despite the inconvenience.
That's fair. I buy physical games all the time, but I opted against the physical version of Crimson Desert because, for me at least, it doesn't fulfil the purpose of owning it physically in the first place.

I buy games physically to preserve my own collection. A game that requires a download doesn't quite do that for me, and it doesn't lend itself well to ownership either, when you're dependent on a server.

I likely will be passing on it on launch. For one, I think GTA games are incredibly well made games, but in general I don't love those style sandbox games. It's just not my preferred genre. So I'm usually not chomping at the bit to play GTA. And it's a game that once I beat it, I'm done with it, so I don't get nearly as much mileage with it as a lot of other gamers who sink hundreds of hours into the games with replays and online play.

I wonder if there will ever be a disc version down the road and if this is only temporary. If there will be I'll just wait for that version.

Not just the west. Capcom's games and Square's games are all Game Key Cards.
On Switch 2, yes. Square Enix PS5 physical single player games are playable without day 1 patch. With Capcom its a mixed bag, Pragmata and RE4R were playable without day 1 patch but Monster Hunter Wilds requires a day 1 patch. But there is no intent like say Microsoft, where none of their physical releases will ever contain the full game on disc.

If resell on a two digit cost item is a legit concern, it is probably worth considering if games are even in the budget at all.
Dude, it's a matter of principle. I won't buy a game at the risk of not liking it - if I don't, I sell it. If I'm finished and don't want to play it anymore, I sell it.

It's always been possible to sell your collection of games before. It's retarded to take away that possibility and I won't accept it. For that and many other reasons, I'd rather quit playing new games than go digital. It's not about the money.

And to have the audacity to put a code inside of a physical box? That's some nerve.

The only thing that gives me a tiny bit of hope for a disk version at a later date is that if there's something those fuckers know how to do is how to squeeze every penny they can from people so a disk version would make many people including my retarded ass double dip the game on the same fucking console even before it comes out on PC or PS6...

You don't care NOW, but in a few years if for whatever reason they decide to just delete the games off their servers and make you unable to reinstall them, then yeah, I doubt people wouldn't care.

I'm very patient. That said I think GTA6 will get similar backlash like Doom Dark Ages did. It won't matter though. Millions will buy the game at launch anyway.
Lol, thats wishful thinking.

This is going to sell double digit millions in its first week, regardless. Any complaints are going to be irrelevant. Then when GTAO for 6 comes out? Forget about it.

This is the one game where the hype is going to completely drown out any online bitching. Thinking otherwise is foolish.

But game is fucking expensive and they still took away resale option. If you want to block second hand sales at least make the game price reasonable, they used the most expensive tier of pricing instead...

If I could I would sell 90% of digital games I own on PSN, PC stores and XB Store, they don't have any value to me anymore.

Would love to fucking sell some of my digital games too.

It's the best way for them to maximise sales over the games lifetime. It cannot ever be purchased pre-owned meaning that they are more likely to beat GTAV lifetime sales.
Maybe...maybe not.

GTAV was able to sell that much cause they actually HAD PYHSICAL copies , thus had to compete.

They will make more money on GTAVI, I don't know that they will sell MORE then GTAV. You had more ways to buy GTAV, you now have less to buy GTAVI. They theoretically can literally keep the price $80 for life

How can they beat GTAV sales with just selling at 1 forced price? So GTAV's sales also come to affordability and the ability to buy it thru multiple ways.

So we'll see, I'm hoping this is just a launch thing like we saw with Oblivion remake and we get an actual physical version later down the road.
