It is not possible for a PC to be sold below cost, because all that happens is that they get ripped apart and sold for parts. It doesn't matter how much Gabe likes his customers; if he sell it at below cost then no one would get to use it. It's like selling gold coins at blow its base metal value. This is the reality of the market. That's odd, the internet told me that Valve was pro-consumer and that Gaben cares about gamers
What's crazy is that these prices could seem like a decent deal 12-18 months from nowIt is not possible for a PC to be sold below cost, because all that happens is that they get ripped apart and sold for parts. If flexible with your eco system, Helix will be a much better buy, Coming from a pc playeri really do wonder who is the steam machine really for at this point with this price
I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel my reservation and just wait for Helix in 27
the only problem is we do not know if Helix will work with steam at this point Microsoft might not allow itIf flexible with your eco system, Helix will be a much better buy, Coming from a pc player
PS6 will be cheaper than this
it is according to KeplerDo toy believe it's still releasing in 2027?
okay I made it my mind I'm keeping my reservation I'm probably not going to get a helix or ps6 at launch anyway
Scoop up an ROG Ally Z1E for like, $400.True but the situation is still fucked up for everyone at the end of the day. There's no reasonably priced gaming hardware to buy.
I'm not going to say you're wrong. I'm just going to ask if you're limiting yourself. Is it because of hardware FOMO or because you've been playing PC mainly this gen?okay I made it my mind I'm keeping my reservation I'm probably not going to get a helix or ps6 at launch anyway
Maybe end of the day, it's simply aimed at someone who wants a PC in a nice small form factor.i really do wonder who is the steam machine really for at this point with this price

In other words, someone with a lot of disposable income.Maybe end of the day, it's simply aimed at someone who wants a PC in a nice small form factor.
That PC or Steam user who isnt that knowledgeable in specs, doesnt care about about building their own system, doesnt care about upgrading parts later etc.... As long as it's easy to use and looks pretty cool, it's good enough.
Like all stuff, there's always a market for people who like cool looking things first. Price, quality, feature set are all secondary. Being that PC user who can analyze price/spec ratios to the last dollar is the last thing they'd do or care about.
What do you mean keep your reservation? It's a lottery so signing up doesn't mean you'll get a chance to buy one.okay I made it my mind I'm keeping my reservation I'm probably not going to get a helix or ps6 at launch anyway
That is one way to look at it I suppose, but not the entire story. You ever been to a high end Michelin star restaurant? That rice and gelatin foam didn't cost $600. There's more than one definition for value, and it's not just cost divided by grams of raw materials. There's an experience factor and a new factor and a cool factor and an overall attractive package factor and other things that come into play.In other words, someone with a lot of disposable income.
I wish it wasn't a lotteryWhat do you mean keep your reservation? It's a lottery so signing up doesn't mean you'll get a chance to buy one.
Well... apparently it only has 1 stick of ram. So you can upgrade it much easier. Of course that ram isn't make much of difference with that meh GPU.This thing should have a "BYO-memory and ssd" option.
okay I made it my mind I'm keeping my reservation I'm probably not going to get a helix or ps6 at launch anyway
The good news for them is it will sell out. The real news is it's only be like 100 units. Will it be more succesful than their last attempt at this price? Steam box vs machine. They can barely get out enough controllers and the desk launch was rough. This is not the saviour people hoped for, the OS, no windows and couch play is the selling point.

Well, the experience you get at one of those restaurants and the craftsmanship of the food cannot be found elsewhere. Here, you're playing the same damn games, but worse than you could have with another prebuilt box (you don't even need to DIY). You're paying a premium for the form factor. That is one way to look at it I suppose, but not the entire story. You ever been to a high end Michelin star restaurant? It's not like it is $15,000 it's $1,500 and this is an expensive hobby, especially now.
There is nothing that matches this package currently. What's wrong with paying more for a form factor or ease of use?Well, the experience you get at one of those restaurants and the craftsmanship of the food cannot be found elsewhere. It's actually one of the worst game purchases I have ever seen now that I think about it.
What do you need this "package" for? Do you stare at your PC tower all day? The trade-off is a much, much worse actual gaming experience because it's so weak. And whatever ease of use you're getting, you are losing in capability with SteamOS - and not just in general applications but some games too. Some of the most popular games don't run on it.There is nothing that matches this package currently. What's wrong with paying more for a form factor or ease of use?
To each their own.If you are seeking justification for being a retard and wasting money on this, don't look to me.
We shouldn't support overpriced junk like this, actually. To each their own.
At the end of the day, none of these gaming purchases gamers make are essential, so
The package is everything. Since you are being a little shit and resorting to name calling I guess I'll just call you poor and move on. You can't afford it, don't get it.What do you need this "package" for? Do you stare at your PC tower all day? The trade-off is a much, much worse actual gaming experience because it's so weak. pretty much the same thing (performance +/- 6-9% with newer generational #s. At least that comes with a display for the price.
Here's one with a 5070 for $1200
Life feed of said folks:Even the biggest Valve fanboys have to realize Gabe fucked up on this one right? right?
