Steam Machine Price Announced - Starting at $1049 / £879

It will sell below steamdeck numbers, so pretty terribly, way worse than dreamcast or wiiu which were considered total flops saleswise(i kinda liked games on them but thats beside the point :P ).
Whatever dream world you're in, get out of it and come back to the real one lmao :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:

And how a PS5/6 will help me to play my 1000+ games library from steam?

even for playing steam games there are better options.
this thing is already drastically outdated, and even building a lower mid range PC will be drastically more future proof, by simply using a 16GB RX9060xt

you can get rtx 5060 laptop for about the same price, which will be better in every way. what's even the point of this thing
And then put that under your entertainment center and install steam os on it and miss out on the included controller integration etc. it's not the same use case.

Thats why Sony PS has to think twice before considering a ps6 launch on 2027. It will be suicide and doa if its around 900 to 1000 dollars. Let it launch on late 2028 or 2029 which probably a much stabilize pricing of components by that time.

1500 bucks for specs that were high end like 4+ years ago - that you could currently build for a third of the price less is wild.

I get the Steam/Linus UI will help the game perform better but at this price point is not worth it for the other lack of functionality- Ie: windows/mac os for example

Should have offered a barebones version. Lots of folks could just move their existing ram and SSD into this thing
Been saying this for months. Valve would have been really smart to sell a barebones kit and allow people to source their own parts. "It's a PC" after all, right? Some people have parts lying around. Some can source their own for their own price comfort.

A barebones sku for the brave. A standard sku for people that don't want the fuss. And a premium sku for the ones that want it all.

Its crazy but the only console thats gonna be cheaper is a Nintendo whatever.

PC, just because its modular, is the only thing that really makes any sense for serious gaming.

Is this better than a PS5 Pro? It seems a lot more expensive than a PS5 Pro...

No issues with the price, but I wish the specs were a bit beefier. I love the experience the Deck offers me, so the gabecube could be a cool addition to the living room. Not only for games but also for media. Hope there'll be a second iteration.

Also worth saying, IMO this isn't a great sign for PS6 & Helix pricing. We can see what volume scaling affords Sony with PS5 and that ain't much considering the current prices, and PS6 will be a much more advanced system. Helix, even if MS are skimming it down to be cheaper, will be in the same boat as PS6 but with worst volume scaling.

Unless current systems see big price drops (actual price drops, not limited-time sales promotions) within the next year or two, I just can't see PS6 or Helix being any less than $799. At least then tho maybe PS5 & Series X return back to $399/$449 (and PS5 Pro to $599).

Steam OS 3?
I didn't know they were numbering them.

The steam page says this price is only good till June 25 then I assume something will change?

I was guestimating $1200 for 1TB storage including controller. So this is about $200 more expensive than I was guestimating.

I think Next gen will launch with no memory and storage, you will buy the base hardware and then memory expansions and memory cards:

Microsoft didn't get anywhere near enough shit for proprietary storage upgrades this gen….

All the fanboys are it up.

"But it's so easy you just slot it in after paying 75%-120% more than you would for an nvme drive for your ps5! No screws it's so easy!"

It doesn't even include a controller and 512GB of storage...

I wonder if this option will be replicated in future consoles...🤔

They copied PS Vita bullshit, Sony at lest learned not to repeat this in the main console.

Unfortunately for them, bad time to release a game console.

We were expecting it to be expensive, given what we've seen with everything else.

So no need for all the theatrics in the thread.

I decided a month ago this was gonna be outside my budget and resolved myself to get a Switch 2 instead.

Let's wait until the market stabilizes (jajajaja) and hope for a deep price cut across the board. Then I'll consider a Steam Machine.

Of course not lol. But it's a PC so it still can do lots of things a console cant.

Now, why would you buy the gabecube instead of a laptop... that's imo the important thing to ask.

You're looking at this incorrectly. People aren't laughing cause it's 1000, people are laughing cause it's worse than a ps5 console at that price. A ps6 at 1000 that's more than 3 times the power of PS5 is a completely different story.

5060 8GB laptop >>>> form factor

It's gonna sound like a leaf blower but you can buy a longer HDMI cable and park it in another room or whatever.
I move my PC around the house all the time and I use headphones on the laptop. The Cube is nice but not at this price.

Just modernize or build a proper pc, if u arent knowledgeable/skilled enough tons of stores offer service to doit for u, or u could hunt for decent prebuild(we will help u here on gaf like we did to many other ppl in need before).

So real question, ur expectaction on how will it sells first 5 years(we know steamdeck is around 4-6m units)? With that price u recon it has even slimmest chance to sell more? Coz i diseagree strongly with that take.
