Killed the shoulder buttons on my 8bitdo Ultimate 2 last weekend playing Luna Abyss.
Both shoulder buttons stick, no longer bounce back, something inside is broken, a spring or plastic.
I believe this has been the quickest to die of all the controllers I have owned.
Not sure I want the 8bitdo 3E anymore.
Gamesir G7 Pro is too clicky and several reviews say the D pad is awful.
Steam Controller no email from the preorder yet. I don't know if I even want it anymore, reports about rumble being borked this morning.
I'm probly going to simply get another Series Elite 2 Core controller, I know I'll get several years out of it at least. I can repurpose the old zipper case, charge dock and paddles.

Hear me out though. The bumpers on Xbox controllers are s-h-i-t-e (even on the Elite), and strangely enough the DualSense, for all its issues, is actually pretty solid when it comes to bumpers and face buttons.
What I would do in your case is just get a plain old DualSense and mod or replace the thumbsticks with TMR ones, and you're basically set. That's what I did, because I used to have the same headache, and I couldn't be happier. The main issue with the DualSense (stick drift) gets effectively solved that way.
Then spend another 10 Eurodollars on a higher-capacity battery, swap it in, and you're golden. Battery life is the DualSense's second weak point, so fixing that rounds it out nicely.
PS : No one will ever convince me that 8-bit do controllers have good quality, no matter how lovely they feel in the hands...

So, first off I only bought this because of the Dualsense features. It can apparently do other things but I only really wanted adaptive triggers that work via wireless. And I'm happy to report that yes, it does. The Dualsense is now fully functional on PC. I know there was that DIY Rasberry Pi that was posted earlier but I'm lazy and already have Amazon credit from back when I returned the TT Max.

I think I might grab one of these as well. I thought about doing the Raspberry Pi thing but I wouldn't want it laying out without a case and by the time I buy the pi + a case it'll be close in price anyway.
I like this better than the Raspberry Pi Solution (on windows) since this a bit more seamless when connecting/reconnecting. The Raspberry Pi solution does work but it does struggle with more than one controller connecting or disconnecting (IE when you switch to a different controller). I know this isn't the core use case of either of these devices, most people just want to use the one controller they like on as many platforms as they can, I get that and the Pi does that just fine.
For the price, the GuilKit solution is great for PC. You do need to jump through more hoops on PS4 and XBOX X/S to use other controllers on those platforms than you do with the Brooks P5/P5S adapters. Also the Goku 2 adapted does not support PS5 at all (even in passthrough/wired mode).
Lag - I don't have comments on this yet. POE2 feels "weird" on PC so far. I don't know why (maybe due to me using the PS5 DS Edge...I don't like this controller much) I am going to try with the Switch 2 pro controller some this afternoon to see if there is a similar off feeling.
Update on this after a few more hours. I tried this adapter on three different PC's and had, only what I can describe as input ghosting (pressing a button will trigger it then trigger it again OR trigger it several more times in a row). This happend randomly using the PS5 DS Edge (the comments I made above).
When trying this on two other pc's I didn't have this problem at all. It was related to using a thunderbolt 4 port on the pc with a USB C to A adapter (the guilkit is usb A). Once I tried using a different usb port on that same pc I didn't have these issues at all.
So far, testing this afternoon has shown this to be an extremely capable controller adapter for a great price.
**My issues seem to be related to the Asus Pro Art motherboard I am using in my office pc.
Here is how I narrowed that issue down:
Office PC:
Changed out the gender changing adapter for a different model (Ugreen USB C to USB A) Result: Same Issue
Switched to two other TB4 ports on the mother board: Same issue with both gender changing adapters on each port.
Switched to a USB C port on the top of my PC Case: Issue was not present with ANY of the gender changing adapters.
Plugged the adapter direclty into a USB A port on my mother board: No issue
Plugged the adapter directly into a USB A port on the front/top of my PC case: No Issue
PC's in my home (mixed use but mostly gaming
Plugged adatper into TB4 rated port on motherboard: No issues with either of the gender changing adapters.
Plugged in to various USB A ports on the motherboard: No issues

Are you getting consistent results with vibration? It doesn't seem to work properly if I have Steam set to not use Steam input for games that support the Dualsense. If I set it to force Steam input, vibraiton works but I lose the adaptive triggers. Granted Dualsense vibration has always been wonky for me even when wired, something about audio channels or whatever.
Back again guys, i need a new controller that works on linux (with no bs configuring). Id like something plug and play like the series x controller.
- Xbox design
- Must have back paddles that can be remapped in linux steam (and xremap too - for non steam games)
- bluetooth connection 95% of the time
Steam Controller tests on Prometheus 82 are in. It's better than I thought, it being capped at 250Hz polling rate and all. The difference between puck and BT isn't that huge tbh.

Let me see if I understand the process here to test this:
In steam I should play a sony PC title (like HZD, or Returnal) and what should I choose for the controller mode in Steam? direct input?

I currently use an 8BitDo Ultimate 2. If you hold B when turning it on Steam recognises it as what it is rather than Xinput (I'm assuming this is d-input mode) and you can remap everything. I haven't tried xremap but I'd imagine it's the same there.
Ordered the Ultimate 3E. $149.99. Free shipping. I only saw a black version, no other colors yet.
Now to wait a few months. I bet youtubers will get a hold of em first. Hopefully the reviews will be good.
Still waiting for the email from the Steam Controller preorder.

I am looking forward to the Ultimate 3E too!
I don't really know who that lavender dusk version is for (from a feature perspective...colorways always come down to personal preference) outside of the manual stick tuning the 3E outclasses it in terms of feature customization imo.
I think you made a good choice given my track record with 8bitdo their products rarely disappoint.
Now...that steam controller...that has been more of a miss than a hit for me. A lot of that comes down to my personal situation (having nerve issues in my right hand currently) and the why that controller is tapered toward the back makes it literal pain (for me) to use the bumper buttons. Also, as a person with big hands I think their button placement to account for the addition of the two touch pads, cramps the face buttons to much for my liking.

I thought it would be better to show you. Picked a game at random to show the default bindings:
Full access to all inputs and gyro, whatever you want is open to you. The only drawback is having to hold B when turning it on every time, which is no drawback at all.
The Saber Plus looks like it gets a lot right, although it's a shame it's let down slightly by the membrane d-pad. I'm more worried there because I've replaced DS4 membranes a couple times in the past. Everything else on it looks very well made.
The channel itself looks very good, doing sound tests for every button and taking specific requests for things to look at is far more detail that most go into so I'm definitely going to follow that channel.

He bought Prometheus 82 too, so I bet he's gonna test controllers more thoroughly now. He did test Saber Plus rather thoroughly because of that.
Honestly I'm thinking about buying it in the near future now. There's something off for me about TT Max shape, and I'm hoping Saber Plus could replace it. I'm digging Xeno Plus so much right now, I'm selling my G7 Pro, lmao.

Im a bit torn on the Saber. Its more or less a symmetrical Xeno Plus, but the Xeno has a dock and switchable d-pad with microswitches for the same price. So while it may still be a great controller, the Xeno offers more value at identical price point.
Wasn't expecting just how many extra inputs that thing has. It's a shame the black part is wobbly and an obvious point of failure, because that has so much potential.
Plus also covering SteamInput in this just makes him even better. He's my new king of controllers, especially with his hand size being similar to mine.
Just updated to shipping today, but really the label was created, and it should hit the UPS carrier I'm assuming today, and then ship out in the evening to my address. I'm assuming Wednesday or Thursday I should get it. I'll think up a few games to try out to really use the trackpads and gyro to see how those work, and improve over my LCD OG Steam Deck.
Yep, I linked that in another thread talking about the Steam Controller. Easily the best video I've seen reviewing it, and gives some cool ideas of how to the controller's trackpads, gyro and grip sensor buttons to enhance different games.
Haven't got to play anything yet, and letting it charge. So far, the setup on Steam was a breeze vs any controller I've used. Just had to update firmware for the puck and connect the controller wired for its firmware, and all was just hitting one button in Steam controller settings.
General Observations:
Controller is lighter, thinner and more comfortable than I expected.
Triggers feel nice (wish they were dual-stage), and the shoulder buttons are very comfortable like the Sony Dualsense.
I have bigger hands, but the stick position so far hasn't felt bad.
D-Pad feels great, easily above average.
Face buttons are slightly smaller and closer together, but feel fine.
These back buttons might be my favorite of ANY controller. They are placed well, and have the right amount of force to avoid accidental presses, but not be uncomfortable to tap all the time.
Trackpads are a big upgrade over my LCD Steam Deck, and I can feel the better sensitivity, precision and stronger motors on them.
Sticks so far feel great, around the same rigidity as my Gamsir G7 Pro.
Overall Impression
So far I'm impressed with the general fit and feel of it in my hands, and very good ergonomics for all they had to fit on it. Some compromise on stick position and face buttons being close together, but nothing that feels uncomfortable.

There are so many strong aspects to it and I wish I got on with it better. I realised my index and middle finger were quite noticably stretched when using both back buttons at the same time as R1 and that straight meant I just couldn't get on with it long term. I hope it goes better for you!

Yeah, that's why I wanted to add that my hand size is bigger, because for me I'm not getting any stretching when messing around with my hand position trying different presses.
The nice thing at least if you're someone that does have that issue, is I'd not use 2 of the buttons that require the most stretch, and instead use the haptic squeeze for those inputs instead (especially buttons you want to hold down).
I'll test out some games later tonight when I can.

My hands are on the bigger side (~20cm length), and I didn't notice it at first but only after 30min+. I was hoping it would go away but no luck. I think the reason I don't get it on my Ultimate 2 is the extra shoulder button meaning I only need one finger on the back and so the hand sits in a more natural position.
I appreciate the advice, but I've already had my refund - I gave up and didn't want it to be a waste of money despite the various upshots you mentioned.

I did get a few minutes on break to try installing that SISR app, and that worked pretty nicely on Forza Horizon 6 using the xbox app with gamepass. Basically just worked as a normal controller, rumble functioned properly, and you get a SISR Steam Input profile system-wide to add custom control layouts.
I'm gonna skip this one, as I already have the $20 version of this controller: the GameSir Tegenaria Lite. Call me when they add wireless and haptics to this design, and perhaps improve the D-pad texture and the flimsy top paddles.

I'm skipping that one also. But I'm thinking about Leadjoy Saber Plus as I really like Xeno Plus so far, and sticks are decent upgrade over G7 Pro regular, Saber Plus uses the same sticks as Xeno Plus, I like everything about JS13 Pro TMR sticks on this controller (Xeno Plus), tension and linearity seem like an Alps sticks (analog potentiometer sticks).

I recently picked up the Mobapad Chitu 2 Silent Edition:
I really like the ergonomics and the grip. Internal gate on the thumbsticks make them fukin' buttery smooth. Buttons and sholders feel first party and sound so quiet.
Great little controller for $50, but the only thing wrong with it was the smell. I had to clean the fuck out of it to get that nasty China warehouse smell out of it. Also no headphone jack is really annoying
Edit: Forgot to mention that it does wake up the Switch 2 if you follow the instructions on the paper or online.
