When I come off a game, I tend to go back to an old one before starting the next new one. Do any of you do that?

My go to's tend to be A Link to the Past and Skyrim.

Right now I'm knee deep into Skyrim….again. I'll probably stop myself in a couple of days and start FF7:Rebirth on the SW2.

Madden is the game I always go to in between games. It's just a good turn off your brain type experience.

Yeah, I think that's why I love to keep playing the two games I play over and over. It's pretty much muscle memory at this point. I can't remember most shit that happens in my day to day life (lol), but I remember where to go pretty much at all times and all the heart pieces in LttP. And with Skyrim, I can remember tons of recipes and hidden treasure locations.

Phantasy Star 2 and 3. I emulate them on RetroArch for iPhone and play on x2 speed. I love grinding characters and breezing dungeons. I usually have a YouTube video playing in Picture in Picture on the corner and just mindlessly grind. Love it.

I have a few forever games that I use like this.

Tetris Gameboy: Always good for my soul.
Bloodborne: In single sitting, I start a new game, do whatever I want and play up-to Logarius and beat him. I love the setting of this fight and he's one of the most satisfying to parry.

This is random, but with Marvels' Spider-Man 2 - I like just jumping in to swing around NY and do random crimes is relaxing, especially in the Queens area. I do something similar with Xenoblade 2, where I load it up and just like running around Fonsett Village (Rex's home) because the music is nice and this area has nice views in the distance.

I always rotate these, but currently it's Forza Horizon 6. Sports games do a good job of it, too.

Otherwise I'll pick some sort of deck builder game. Just whatever turns my brain off for a bit.

two week ago, i said i'm finished with monster hunter, and felt that the fast paced gameplay and deep combat mechanic is awesome, if not the best.
then i played another game, and felt empty... then I played octopath zero, which is turn based.

I think if we playing different gameplay pace, like from action to turn based, it could be cleansed out thought.

now i played ratchet and clank in ps2, the first one, which, the gameplay and especially camera is awful. but somehow, i'm progressing far than before

I have a couple games like that actually, games which I play regularly throughout the year off and on in between other games I'll only play until I am "done" with them. These couple of games I'm never truly "done" with as I feel like I could play them forever and never get tired of them. Minecraft is one, as is Diablo (whichever version is current), No Man's Sky, and American Truck Simulator. As of a year ago Satisfactory has been added to that rotation, I've been thoroughly addicted to Satisfactory ever since it hit 1.0 last year.

Well damn, this sounds intriguing. And only $2.99 USD, gonna snag it lol.

As for my palette cleanser game, gotta go with OP and say Skyrim. If I'm needing to just check out and relax with an old friend, Skyrim fits that bill nicely.

I've gotten into randomizing my unplayed library on Steam.

It prevents me from getting too tired of any one genre.

Palette cleansers for me are typically more linear games that I can play through in 10-15 hours or less. I usually gravitate to survival horror like Dead Space, Resident Evil or older shooters like Serious Sam. Just something where I don't need to think too much.

I don't always play them through completion, especially Skyrim. Like right now, I just purchased the game for the 20th time, this time on Switch 2. And I'll probably play it for 20-30 hours, then put it down. Then pick it back up later, where I left off. It helps that the game has a great quest tracking system.

I've found No Man's Sky is great for this. With their updates and expeditions, it's a nice and chill way to distract yourself from another game. It barely has a story and you can do and go wherever you want, so you're not constrained to anything. You always have lots to do and it's always at your own pace (except expeditions, those are time limited).

For what it's worth, I got into this series about 8 years ago when a bundle site (I think Fanatical?) had the first like 8 games in a bundle for $1. As far as playtime goes, it's probably the best $1 I ever spent. These days, the games are rarely discounted on Steam, especially the later ones. Personally I don't mind because each game takes about 7-8 hours total to finish, so I don't mind dropping $15 or whatever.

But if you don't mind using the Legacy Games launcher (they do freebies through Amazon on the regular, you might already have a library of casual games there like me) they have two volumes that are $20 each
