Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

Kudos to the team for patching the console version fast. There's still work to be done for sure, but I haven't had a crash or any other serious bugs in days.

I've been using magic to deal with enemies and its actually really fun. I went into a cave full of trolls and it was hard to deal with them woth melee weapons but I wiped out their entire society with fire lol

Finally managed to finish the scavanger mount quest, the thing make running between camp much faster.

I think i've done most of the quest from all camps so now after 30+ hours and still on chapter one, i can decide what camp to join :lollipop_squinting:

The half naked bald guys group is the one that suits you better papi

They do love ganja almost as much as me but i hate religious zealots so i'm probably gonna go with the old camp.

Also, the baldies dont use assless chaps as bottom armour and that's a big no from me 🥲

If you're struggling and want to break the game and have an easy time, beat the crap out of Silas (new camp tavern owner) and grab his weapon. Almost endgame quality, one handed that only requires 45 strength to wield. It will trivialize the first half of the game at least, combined with level 2 one handed weapons. I used to do this all the time in the original game game and I'm glad they kept it in. You can very easily do this before joining any of the camps if you want to take your time to do all the quests and clear the map of monsters.

The fallout is relatively easy to deal with. Run away from all the people that will bet after you and store everything in your chest. Come back to the tavern and let them beat you, then everything will be fine and you get to keep all your stuff.

They seriously need to buff magic. A late game spell shouldn't do more damage to yourself than to enemies. As it stands most offensive magic is utterly useless in the mid to late game.

Never played this game back in the day.
Is it good?

Like what game can i compare it too?

I am still in the first chapter. It is great fun to take out NPCs with the bow and loot them, they don't seem to be resentful at all.

Gothic is a genre-defining title that became beloved because its core design was incredibly tight, with systems supporting each other to deliver the vision, more than for production value and budget.
It's a game that (like the more famous "souls like" years later) understands that FRICTION is a core part of experiencing a genuine sense of adventure and that removing any degree of attrition for the sake of convenience doens't do the player any favor in the long run.

This remake just brings it up to modern standards in terms of UI, controls and tech, but the core experience is turning out to be suprisingly close to the original.

So in short: it's more than just good, it's an instant classic.
And if you don't like it you are the one at fault, not the game.

P.S. Also, their game design is *nothing* like Morrowind. If anything Piranha Bytes has always been the "anti-TES" in its core design principles, for better or worse.
They always favored hand-crafted content, reactive NPCS and curated quest design over expansive landscapes and generic fillers.

There is a "sweet" bug. If you put yr ore into any quickslot, you can buy everything (from traders) without losing any ore. The trader however gets the money. So you can re-sell what you just bought and rinse and repeat for infinite ore. My money issues are at least solved right now. ;)

Not sure if this was patched out already with the recent patch. I didnt update yet.

Just got free body armor without joining a faction yet.

500 nuggies to my name. Amazing weapons. 50 arrows. I can lockpick anything and no mod needed. Pickpocket God. Not even 10 hours total.

Which one?
it used to be thar you could get the strongest (and gayest) armor in the game even in Act 1 if you exploited Pickpocketing on Gomez if you managed to infitrate the castle (i.e. trasforming in a meatbug and sneaking past Thorus) and then got the key of his chest, but that has been fixed with this most recent patch.

Aside from that as far as I know there's just the Miner outfit which is barely better than being naked.

I got the Ore armor halfway through act 2 but I refuse to use because it's garish as hell and emanates homoerotic energy.

Just the shitty mining outfit from the guy in the free mine when you enter.

I could drop 324 to buy an upgraded mine gear but nah I'll wait until I join a camp.

I'm thinking swamp gang or old camp. New camp basically forcing a 400 nugget donation to join. Yes I did the quest to take all 400 for myself or give 200 to go 50/50, but I went 50/50. I'm over 600 nuggets now and don't want to give up any to join new camp. Did most/all of their quests I can though.

Have to stop my playthrough because Diego won't give me a quest in Act 3 very frustrating and patch won't come out until next week.

So doing my perma run and no sleep, but I'm seeing there's some confusion on the overachiever trophy as well... Is that learning every skill or is it maxing?

Also what do you guys think is mage the way to go? Or swords and bows?

Been so long since I played so not sure. But I'm tryin to bang this permadeath run out but not sure what combat style I should go for with it to make it easier.

Managed to get a game breaking bug it seems. Butch refuses to talk to me so I can't learn the dodge roll. :/

Edit: nvm. Needed to talk to BUSTER not butch.

No, i don't think so. Maybe when you jump into the water with a torch he puts it back in but i'm not sure.
I'll have to try that. I wonder if there is a wearable lantern, or something similar? It's right up there with Dragon's Dogma 2 for its depiction night time.

No lantern from what i know but the Light Spell creates a lightball above your head so you have your hands free.

probably a testament to how shit most rpgs are nowadays

I will cop at some point, when its a bit cheaper.

Made it to chapter 2 at 20 hours. Went with old camp in the end.

Reloaded a save cuz I got stuck in Gomez throne room area, and as I did it gave me a 1/4 shot to pickpocket Gomez himself who reloaded walking up to sit at the throne? Either way it worked first try!

Got myself wicked sick gear galore now lock picking the castle and going to his room. Oh baby!!!

Loving the lock pick, I see many hate it but it's kinda fun hah.

I wish gaming would get back to these types of rpgs, everything has weight to it and feels like a victory when you finish something.

20 hours for chapter 2? And i thought i was slow, lol.

Elex would be the most similar modern game, but this one is better in almost every aspect.
Piranha Bytes lost a lot of flavour over the years. Risen 1 had its own identity, but felt not as dense in atmosphere as Gothic. Risen 2 and 3 were just bad imo. Elex 1 had a strong new identity, but execution wasn't good, combat was a bit more fleshed out, but felt hollow in the end. With Elex 2 they said they improved combat a lot, but I didn't feel any of it and the game itself wasn't as good as the first, again imo.
Then they went under, the Gothic rights stayed with THQ Nordic, the Pankratz built Pithead Studios as a two person team, released Cralon, which ultimately was horrible both in design and execution.
Really sad that they couldn't keep going with what made Gothic 1 and especially 2 such great games back in the day.
But the remake is absolutely brilliant.

Having so much fun with this game. Went to the old mine, just to mine some nuggets. But found I could deviously run towards the deadly Minecrawler enemies, that usually kill me in one shot, and lure them towards the guards and Templars. Many guards and Templars got killed! I looted 4 really good swords and many other things from their corpses as I left the mine, feeling good.

Did the same. Looted up that whole place cuz of fools dying to the crawlers.

I'm in the back cheering the bugs on to murder them for my payday.

Ign just gave this game a 7.

What a fucking joke of reviewers we have in the industry. I am sick of them
Game is a 9 through and through.

This years KCD2 experience.

Deserves infinitely more sales and praise. Will be forgotten about during GOTY discussions sadly.

It took the GOTY spot currently for me from RE9. Game is pure magic.

It is and yet reviewers are trashing it. Its so frustrating to see how much these incompetents are hurting this business

Yea theyre awful, I can't stand them either anymore.

Hopefully we get the same for Gothic 2, 3 and even would love to see Risen get this treatment.
Looks a for sure getting a gothic 2 since this sold 500,000 in a day right? Dev said it's way above what they had envisioned/hoped for.

I'm day one for the next game they put out.

Absolutely, I love seeing this type of remake because back then so many games were ahead of their time and this just brings them back to really be enjoyed again, I love it.

I'm glued to this

To skip the mine animation, normally attack the ore and at the last second press the mining button combo left trigger+X\square.
