New Far Cry & Ghost Recon games' development has been abysmal, struggling as Ubisoft makes changes

Development of the next Ghost Recon game isn't going well. According to sources close to the game, many of those working on Project OVR are "bracing for impact" after management changes were recently implemented.

In a memo shared with Insider Gaming, Project OVR recently failed to meet internal Alpha objectives, leading to Ubisoft bringing in Bruno Galet as senior producer to lead the Project OVR team. In addition, VP of Production Jean-Baptiste Duval and VP of the Global Creative Office Julien Sansalone were brought in to be "more present on a day-to-day basis", including being on the work floor.

Ubisoft did not return requests for comment ahead of publication.

Will also add that the next mainline Far Cry game development has also been abysmal.

I know I have used this too many times, but it's so good.

You know what they get told when they get hired at Ubisoft?

Ubisoft struggles with everything lately.

Crazy that they did use to make great games like Splinter Cell and the older Ghost Recon games and look at them now

They could have just done a heavy remastering of Summit Strike. That game was a near masterpiece.
No struggling with design. Just update models, textures, and lighting. Run at high resolution and framerate.
A smaller team could have done it with a much lower budget.

game studios definitely seem to have continuity problems. the whole 'take what came before & build something better on top of it' thing only works if there's an inherent understanding among those involved as to what actually came before, & that sense of familiarity/comfort with the work of previous staff members just seems to be missing in action. so much now seems to be about rebuilding from scratch, which really, really shouldn't be the case, & negates the whole point of having an established track record as a developer...

Is this what you really think is causing issues?

For a highly-skilled job, you can only hire based on merit. Whatever other criteria is bound to destroy your company in the long run. Not everyone is creative enough to direct or write a videogame, or to innovate from a techcnical standpoint. You need top skills, the top 1% of the talent pool.

You're telling me a team of mentally ill people who hate masculinity and firearms aren't the best choice for making a decade long, very detailed simulation of masculinity and firearms?

Wasn't the next FarCry supposed to be really out there? I thought it actually sounded interesting instead of a rehash of FarCry 3.
A time limit in an open world Ubisoft game with millions of markers sounded like a horrible idea from the start. Same like rumors of an interrogation system (meant to only slow down unlocking objectives) or permadeath. They are really clueless about the future of the franchise.

If the new Ghost Recon is anything like the last two then no thanks.

Far Cry wise I enjoyed 6 more than 5, but neither is as good as 3 (skipped 4).

Yes, it was supposed to have a 24 to 48 hour in-game time limit where you had to save your family.

I hope that sticks around because it's a much, much better idea than the usual.

Which is why they would actually have to innovate and do something different because both ideas clash. That's why the concept itself excited me.

Don't give much of a damn about GR and after trying Breakpoint, even less

But FC, man they can't top FC3 and 4 which are the peaks of the franchise, 5 was meh and 6 was below that one, if they don't manage to figure it out the IP is done for

Of course it would be "a rehash of FC3", there is no other formula for FC at this point.
It is using Snowdrop now though and I dunno how many people from the previous FC dev team(s) are even still at Ubisoft at this point.
I always had severe doubts about the future of FC past 6.

Imagine making an insanely successful game like Wildlands and then "struggle to make a sequel".

What the fuck do you mean you're struggling? Just do the same thing again!

Yves should just call me and put me in charge of Ghost Recon at this point. I'd do it for free, just for the love of the game.

All of the Ghost Recon games since going open-world have been abysmal boredom. The mission designs get repetitive, the AI breaks too often, and even though they are some fun mechanics get mixed in with systems from their other games that just get old. Both Wildlands + Breakpoint suck compared to GRAW 1-2, and even Future Soldier.

Not to mention Rainbow Six has become a wheelchair bound clown skin version of itself

It's a tragedy what happened to this company. They were amazing in the early 2000s. We had great series in Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Far Cry, and Brother's in Arms.

Far Cry was crytek.

Far Cry 2 was crap, and repetitive as hell.

Other than that, yeah they've fallen from grace.

However, it's not super surprising given all those series were milked dry. That and moving pretty much everything to open world was a bad choice, and made it all look and feel the same.

Gearbox also did Brothers in Arms. I was lumping publishing with developing to show they had some great series under them. The shift to open world killed them off for me.
