Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

Made my way back over to the swamps to see if I could farm some exp or money or something.
Trying to kill all the flies for the weed gatherers and doing other mundane stuff.
It's progression by inches, if at all.

Another game with FSR encode in the game code so Adrenalin can't fish the .dll to use FSR4.

Besides that AMD user can't even turn Vsync. What a shitshow

Just as a complement. The vsync works if you disabld the entire Nvidia reflex shit on the ini files as they came on and locked even for AMD cards. And although they obfuscate the FSR.dll, optiscaller is working so is possible to use fsr4.1 on this one.

I don't know why, but I'm getting some heavy Witcher 2 vibes from the graphics.

I still can't even leave the first camp. I kill one beast then gotta run back. I finally got to spend my LP to upgrade my melee.

I was trying to do the Fingers quest to steal the ring, I guess I picked the wrong chest and only got steel, ruby and a gold bar. Oops
You managed to pick a lock? Fuck me you're a god gamer son.

All I do is break picks or piss off someone near me.

Man why do I have to like games that are destined to fail (Deus Ex, Dishonored, Prey etc)

You've got taste, these journo's are actual untermensch. Should read some of those reviews, they're sickening.

I just forced vsync in adrenaline.

Agreed on the graphics, the rockiness of it all reminds me of Vergen

Some guy from Impulse gamer gave the game a 2.6/5 and called it a Suger-coated remaster.
Some professional reviewers are so worthless, really. Pisses me off sometimes.

Played the beginning until I hit the old camp.
But I took my time, taking it all in. They did a great job of capturing the atmosphere. Played Gothic classic for a couple of hours on Switch 2 in the beginning of 2026. It's so refreshing to visit this world again, but with this fidelity.
Playing in my native language (German) for the first time in over twenty years. Feels absolutely weird, but fitting :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'm just gonna say this, if your arms are like noodles, you may want to visit the rice field in the new camp, and maybe a close tavern right after...and be aware of what you say when you talk to people...

I picked it up last night and played for around 2 hours. I currently have Mud following me around (I may take him out into the woods to meet the wildlife). Spoke to a load of folk at the camp to pick up some missions. Then followed some dude to the swamps. I followed him all the way as he clobbered everything that moved and helped me level up. I'm not going to lie, but I don't fancy the trip back without him.

How does the game hold up considering modern titles? Is it a 1 for 1 remake with outdated and basic quests / writing / gameplay a'la Oblivion remaster or is it a proper reimagining?
It has no 20 year old engine running underneath, no. Oblivion remaster was a new coat of paint over an old skeleton, Gothic Remake is a whole new guy, albeit extremely faithful to the original when it comes to level of challenge, lack of handholding, and capturing the atmosphere and vibe. It is great, particularly for people who like engaging and challenging games and progression systems.

Gothic was always superior to Elder Scrolls btw.

Except for 1-2 enemies you can outrun everything.

I hope you bought at least the colony map tho...

Music to my ears broski thanks

I finally belong and got my entry level Shadow armor. Survived a fight with three adult scavengers and still had half my health bar, bow before me peons!

Yawl got me gassed up to buy this for real.

This game is what people think kc2 is in term of rough start (challenge, lack of money, being beaten by everyone, and feeling like an absolute turd in pretty much everything).

People who had ANY problem with that one, is gonna throw the controller at the tv in the first 5 hours with this one i think :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Refreshing and old school and fun but nerve testing at times because jank is what make combat much worse for now, also, ALL the skills to learn are useful at the beginning so i have choice paralysis...not that i have the money to buy most of them anyway:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Explorations is very rewarded and well done, you can jank-climb a lot fo stuff that doesn't look climbable so always look up for points of interests folks.
Probably more KCD 1 vs 2, but yeah, OG Gothic was no joke (minus some exploits). KCD 1 had similar feels as it took you quite a while to get powerful and even then fighting multiple enemies was always somewhat dangerous.

Tempted to get this but I am waiting for some performance patches and lock pick mod.

How long were the first games?

Also, you guys should try Of Ashes and Steel, when you finished with Gothic and still have an itch for old school rpgs.
I have it on my wishlist, but it seemed buggy and the demo didn't quite hit with me. Did the game get patched up ?

The full game is in much better shape compared to that old demo. Its one of the most polished games I have played in the last years, zero bugs after 30 hours of playtime

Deserves waaaaay more. That's actually painful to read. :/
I think console sales are probably quite poor. First it's not really a game that appeals to a traditional console audience and then you throw the crashing and 30fps drama at launch on top and it probably sucked out some of the hype.

Hopefully the game has legs, if it can clear a million than it should greenlight a Gothic 2 Remake. The budget on this was probably tiny, considering it was a studio of ~30 in Spain.

We just have to sing the praises of Gothic for many more years. It's quite a demanding game as well for many people's computers.

To be fair they seem quite happy with the sales, I only knew it came out because of this thread.

You better spend them on Gothic 1 Remake and wait for a sale on Of Ashes and Steel.
Ironically enough, I just put my ongoing second playthrough of Of Ash And Steel on hold precisely to play this remake, but at some point I plan to go back to it.

Another game with a few janky sides but with an extremely rewarding progression curve and exploration (it's basically a russian attempt at "We have Gothic at home").

I dunno, feel like I'm getting burned out on this. Put in 20 hours to still be weak as a kitten. Exploring means almost instant death in most cases for either minimal or no reward at all.
Going to go train up melee and bow again, frustration is beginning to outweigh the fun.

Sorry but you are doing something wrong if you are 20 hours in and get insta-killed man

You really shouldn't be having issues if you are actively upgrading your skills and getting new weapons. Make sure you train acrobatics and utilize the rolling mechanic. The combat gets a lot easier once you get the timing down for combos. I was having a really hard time in the beginning, but all of this has made it much easier to progress.

I just hit level 15 last night and really only had trouble fighting large groups of enemies.

I need to find the acrobatic dude apparently, I thought dodging was included in the one handed training.
I gotta concentrate more on quests I'm thinking. I've found some cool areas exploring but the monsters are usually one hit deaths, maybe two if I'm lucky.

I'm like 10 hours in and able to take most things I've encountered in the woods by now without too much issue. You need to pump up your strength and get that one handed leveled fam. Also go to the New Camp and get the combat roll.

How do you get combat roll?
