Why do western devs make female characters uglier in their games?

This is why, but they don't even have to be fat or ugly.

But also the men. The men know that the women will immediately know that the female character has sex appeal and they are horrified at that potential reaction from within their own studio.

Chill guys. I'm sure she could have a good personally. That can override visuals surprisingly fast. Think about friends or people you've known who weren't your "type" at first glance but became magnetic once you got to know them. A great personality creates its own attraction and can rewire how you see someone. While looks spark interest, compatibility and emotional connection sustain it. If she's genuinely fun to be around, that initial "unattractive" reaction can fade or even flip.

All the characters in Fable look so out of place for the setting.

Looks exactly like the casting for Ring of Power and Star Trek Academy, etc..

The modern uggo theater kids era.

For a time I thought people thinking studios were making female game characters ugly were over reacting, however the more time passed, the more I am agreeing that this is true.

I don't really think we need 32+ pages to answer this one. DEI hiring has lead to a massive influx of ugly septum-pierced, purple-haired losers within most Western studios. These people don't care about marketing a game towards its intended audience (straight men), they actively want to piss that demographic off and push their message instead which includes the fact that all portrayed women should be ugly because, in their eyes, that is representative of "real women" (aka themselves), while young, thin, attractive women are somehow not "real women". This of course doesn't apply to the male characters which must always be hot and always look faithful to their model. I have yet to see a man who looks like Danny DeVito lead a major videogame franchise, but we're supposed to accept these misrepresentations and ugly hags.

They'll say it's to make the franchise more "inclusive" and expand the target audience to generate more sales. To them though, being "inclusive" means excluding the majority of potential buyers. Then they wonder why they're getting laid off.

All it takes is one DEI hire in the HR department and all hiring going forward is gonna be borked because that one person (most likely a woman) will approve hires based on politics, not talent/passion.

Agreed. But even the shoulders on the left aren't ideal, still a little too slanted. For me, close to 90° looks best on a woman. There are exercises that women can do to get them:

In a country like Korea, which has very high beauty standards for women, 90° shoulders are considered the gold standard and many kpop idols and actresses have them.

When I see the comparisons to Asian devs it just can't be denied. Those examples are spot on. Now some examples here of GOWL Deborah do also look correct while other pictures absolutely look off.

So I have no idea why tf both Sony and MS do this for their own characters while allowing tons of games where women are attractive and the likeness near perfect. Back in the day Cortana looked good, some Gears of War females as well.

Now honestly, these two new female soldiers do look like "real" hardened soldiers, so to speak but it's a far cry from how the previous games showed them. I don't like it either but at least we have Asia that just does things.....well.
