Asha: "We will continue to look at new business models...rather than just the most premium, high performance console in the world"

Confused Thinking GIF

Asha trying to figure out how to "Revive XBOX" TM

Because it doesn't make sense for Microsoft to sell that system and make valve richer.
Microsoft is shitting up the world with AI and plays into the ram crisis.

Anywho, lock people into it by saying all your 360 and up games are BC. All it would take a containerized dev environment to launch it lol

Tom Warren speculates that she may be referring to xCloud

I said here many times that MS will try ALL they can to enforce a cloud model. But this is good because probably games will be kept on PC. I think this can work really well with Gamepass consumers, they don't want pay for games and don't want pay for hardware.

Does every single quote from this lady deserve its own thread? Seriously.
Asha Spencer

Her wording is also very careful here as to me

rather than just the most premium, high performance console in the world

can be read in two different ways as in instead of or rather than just the one device

She didn't say much honestly because if she was breaking some sort of news it wouldn't have been done in this manner imo

Ambiguity is their lifeblood.

Nothing ever changes other than the cult of personality.

Well look at Nex. They sold pretty well. They put a $250-$300 cube together with a camera on it and games only via a subscription for ~$100(iirc) for a ~year. Probably outsold the Xbox some weeks during the past xmas season.

Cloud gaming ...well good luck. Some people say it works for them. Always been too laggy too often for my tastes for where I'm at which is not next to the server.

Still they could do a cheap cheap console like Nex that targets casual, family, old console, indie and new 'AAA' graphic limited games and also work in the cloud gaming aspect for access to big productions from 3d parties and from some of their franchises that can't or won't go back in time. A subscription could be the only way to play. Bring your own Gamepad. Buy the new one if you'd like.

The best quote It is her answer on this interview about XboX Helix, PC is here to stay:
Asha: "Yeah, well we're having a hard time now. There's more demand than there is supply for our Gen 9 console. And I suspect the same will be there with our Gen 10 console. I'm excited about it. It's a console that's also going to allow you to play your PC games, it's going to have backwards compatibility, it's going to have leading end performance. But there's material work to do to make sure that it is available to the people that want to play. And so we're working on that."

Sure make a peasant S/Cloud console but please please please dont kill Helix! Yes a 1000$ console will sell like shit but........................ Ill Fucking buy one! Need something with the power of a 5080 in the livingroom for the 65" Oled.

Please Lord Asha! There are dozens of us DOZENssssssssss

Might be about to separate xcloud from game pass, or an xcloud only tier. They've been steadily adding dozens of games to the 'stream your owned titles' list and practically every new release is already on there.

So.. Two versions of this Helix thing incoming: a premium version which is bascially a decent 5080-ish gaming PC performance wise, and a S version with 5070 /PS6 performance, for lower resolutions and settings in new games. And they will focus mostly on the S version.

Also a small pure cloud / game pass machine without solid internal hardware. "For the masses".

Thats my two cents.

I still think the general idea of the Series S was a good idea, it just wasn't executed good enough. I think 10GB of dedicated memory (12GB total) and a 6TF (ugh) GPU would have been way better.

Well good thing. I mean we have all these xboxes phil and bond left us since everything is an xbox. Sounds like nothing changing, except no new powerful console.

It's possible she veered off into a different subject with her response, but that whole part of the conversation was about hardware, not software or services.

Gotta say, I'm in for the Helix idea and hopefully they continue to develop on the specs and boards that kepler etc have reported on as finalized.

So actually nothing has changed. They are going open pc. Will make some sort of S version and/or cloud device for peasants..

Neither did Phil or Sarah Bond so it's basically status quo for Xbox.

Phil had an idea/plan. Now it happened to be a completely incompetent and dumb one but he had a plan.

This is just slinging shit everywhere at the last possible minute with little to any thought about what the short/mid/ or even long term goals are.

they'll clearly have a Series S successor on top of the high end Helix. and this time it's not even a risk anymore because Sony will have their own Series S in form of the handheld. meaning devs will need to accommodate a low end version either way

Well, there it is, what I just said in other thread: first goal is to produce an affordable MAIN console for the masses.

The concept of Helix was full retard from inception, a fanboy pipedream for the likes of Jez.
Can anyone explain to me why is it "radically different" such goal? Xbox main console was always for the masses, somehow only Helix really tries a new business model though for the niche. There is nothing of radical different in a series S "kinda" of sku...

Good. Why do we need overly powerful consoles? Switch/2 have shown the VAST majority don't really give a shit about being the most powerful. Just focus on games and gameplay.
It doesn't show that at all. They give a shit because its the ONLY way to play Nintendo games....until Switch 2 emulation becomes viable. Ocarina remake will jumpstart that those plans it quick order.

not at all you can throw Activision out and it still put out way better than sony studios this gen.
For the entire gen? Fuck no. Not even close. From 2020-2024 Sony blew the doors off of Xbox in terms in terms of exclusives. Fucking seriously, name one good exclusive or even Xbox published had during that time. Starfield? Halo Infinite? Those were decent, sure but didn't hold a candle Forza 5 is the legit the best published game they had.

For me, the best Xbox published games are all from Bethesda and they include Doom Dark Ages and Indiana Jones.

For the past two years? Sure I'll give you that. But this "entire gen?" shit. Get the fuck outta here.

Yeah for the entire gen, not up till 2024 wherever the hell that came from.

The xbox list especially from 2020-2023 was a complete fucking joke. Which of those are all time greats.? HiFi Rush? Forza 5?

For the record, my favorite games from that list are Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Raganrok, Indiana Jones, Ratchet and Clank. I actually put a lot of time into Starfield, but don't consider it remotely close to an all time great.

At this point I'm not surprised if they're just using the Xbox brand as a means to keep windows a gaming platform. They're beginning to feel the Linux heat :messenger_grinning_sweat:
