I think they've gotten better with these over time, but I never understood people who said Octopath 1 looks good. That game's got more bloom covering up the graphics than Twilight Princess on Wii

This one looks pretty bad in the trailer, but the IGN preview thing looks pretty nice, skipping through it because I couldn't stand listening to this dumbass for more than 5 seconds at a time lol

I wouldn't mind that at all. There are some gacha games with good core gameplay that get ruined by the rat race.

This isn't a bad thing tbh. Brave Exvius was a phenomenal game despite the gacha elements

It's described as a classic RPG adventure by SE. Nothing about this suggests to me that it's a gacha game, and neither do the pre-order bonuses. No signs of in-game monetisation.

To set things up a bit, Resonance is an adaptation of Brave Exvius, the Final Fantasy mobile game that shuttered in 2025, which had a 10-year run. And to be abundantly clear, there are no microtransactions; Resonance is not a gacha game. Now, you might be thinking this is like how Octopath Traveler 0 was a revamp of the mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent – however, Resonance is a lot different. This is not a port or even a remake of Brave Exvius, rather it serves as the narrative foundation with a whole new combat system and overworld. Its story has been tuned for a traditional RPG that's informed by Brave Exvius' first season with everything else built from the ground up. It's got airships, chocobos, the summons you know and love, and an HD-2D art style that's more detailed than what we've seen before.

Yeah I saw this and I felt... excited? I haven't felt like that for a Final Fantasy since XII on the PS2. I guess since XIII it just hasn't been feeling like Final Fantasy, so when I look at this I get that feeling again. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug I suppose.

They did a great job with Octopath 0 and that was a mobile gacha game (I think? I don't follow those at all), but I really enjoyed Octo 0.

I have faith in this one given how that turned out.

I hate to be that guy, but I'm going to be that guy and say that I really really hate the HD2D style. If they wanted to go with oldschool spritework but updated just do something like CrossCode or Chained Echoes or something.

Same, I can't stand the Octopath Traveler UE/Unity style crossover crap of pixel + blur whatever… I don't know why they just can't use the FF3/FF4 DS/PSP directiin

Is it sad that this might be my most anticipated game now? Maybe Code Veronica Remake edges it out, but not really sure.

I played the SHIT out of FFBE, but never actually spent a dime. Of course...I also never pulled a 5 star or whatever they were called. The rates (and my luck) were comically bad back then.

Either way, I actually enjoyed the hell out of the game and got pretty far in the story, but I had to put it down after a while. It was just an unhealthy time sink. But I am definitely down to check out a fully single player game that takes place in that world.

Fingers crossed that the writing isn't god awful.
