[Valve] Steam Controller: Reservations open May 8th

Your Wolverine v3????

Yeah....only a couple of years old now but the thumbsticks occassionally moving at the base. Not sure why that is happening. It isn't all the time, but I'll be playing and I'll feel this slight shift. Hard to explain, but I'm afraid there is some issue that is going to get worse.

It's perfect for TV setups. If your motherboard supports "wake from USB", you can wake it from sleep with the Steam Controller and it gives you a console like experience.
The puck allows that I suppose? Because I cannot boot my gaming pc with an Xbox remote.

Definitely! I have the puck plugged in via USB and it'll wake the PC up from sleep when I turn on the Steam controller.

My motherboard supports it, but I think mileage may vary on every setup.

I've been playing my PC way more. I keep the controller on the couch, so when I plop down here, I turn on the controller, turn on the TV and I'm gaming within a minute.

I've waited to long for a new controller. I'm going to have to drive into Bestbuy today and pick up something. Anything. I'm gonna pick up at least the cheapest regular xbox controller. I'm hoping to grab a series elite 2 core to replace my bad ones.
I really thought I would have a Steam Controller in my hands by now, but once again anything computer gaming related is a big ball of disappointment.

Maybe I'll pick up a dualsense edge. Crap battery life but I think they have a few at my local Bestbuy.

Oh, from sleep. I thought it was possible to cold boot the PC like a console. My PC is in a different room from my TV so if I could just boot it with a controller, that would be the complete console experience. My PC is already booting in Big Screen mode and I bypass Windows ids. It's also convenient when I want to play on another TV around the house, there's a XSX on that TV and I use the Moonlight client on that one. Still missing one PC on my office monitor (5K2K) to complete my total setup.

I've been seeking a console-like PC experience for years!

You might already be doing this, but thought I'd share in case there's new info in here for you :messenger_grinning:

That Pulse Eight adapter is great. Actually just finished setting up my CachyOS box with it this morning. Turns my TV on and switches input on wake, turns the TV and controller off on sleep. It's glorious.

I paid on May 24th and still waiting for it. Looks like it will arrive June 1st. I guess memorial weekend and just the timing in general is what caused it to take so long.

Got mine yesterday and played a bunch of Division 2 with it last night. I thought it would be smaller, but I think it's the perfect size. Best part for me is the back button position. I can hold the controller normally and still press them as opposed to my Wolverine Ultimate that you have to extend your middle and ring fingers constantly. More of relaxed and natural position to press them on Steam Controller. Triggers feel similar to the DualSense which is good. Analogs are good, but at this point I'm still like the positioning and feel of the DualSense a bit better. I'll have to spend more time with it to get a better feel for them and get used to the optimal thumb placement. Haven't had a chance to play with the trackpads. I might try something out that I can use them as a radial menu. They are useful for couch PC gamers in a web browser as it uses the left trackpad for up and down, and the right for the mouse cursor. Triggers are right and left click.

All-in-all I will definitely be using it as my main controller on PC.

I'm surprised how many people are still waiting to get one. I imagine Valve is holding back stock for the GabeCube. That said I'm greatly enjoying mine and it has become my primary controller. I still use a DualSense the few games with adaptive triggers but for the most part it's Steam Controller all the way. I still wish Steam would let you fool every game to let me use PlayStation glyphs instead of ABXY but oh, well... maybe one day.

Absolutely love this controller. Took me a little bit to get used to the analogs versus vs DualSense, but after a couple sessions in Div2 I'm experiencing a noticeable improvement in headshot accuracy.

Valve's M.O. from their hardware inception has been dramatically under producing and running months or year long IOU queues. They've literally done it with every single piece of hardware they've launched, both the VR headsets, the Deck, the controller, the Machine and Frame are guaranteed to follow suit. It's intentional. If they were at all interested in gauging and satisfying demand they could easily put up $5 or $10 preorders like 6 months in advance.

This thread reminded me to check my email in case of my Steam Controller reservation, and looks like I got one back on Tuesday.

Completed my purchase today, so should have a Steam Controller next week.

For those that have it -

Curious to see how this feels in your hands VS Dualsense, how the sticks feel in comparison, how weighty & premium it feels, how responsive the gyro is, and how high resolution the haptics feel?

Guess I should get in line now if I want one sometime this year!

Feels a bit tighter than the Dual Sense. Not as wide.

Sticks have been good and I haven't had any adjustment period.

I wouldn't say it feels like a premium controller. Kinda in the same quality tier as the Xbox Series X base controller.

I haven't tried the gyro yet, but the haptics are excellent! Not as good as Dual Sense, but up there with Switch 2 Pro controller.

I don't wanna use anything else on PC. This will be my main for a long time. I already want a second one for the other room.

It got mine a few days ago. But I'm struggling to use it with non steam games. Even if I add the .exe to steam it's not working...
Any ideas?
An app called SISR will let you use the Steam controller with pretty much anything.

I linked this video to the exact time you need (34:36) that quickly explains how to set it up.

When you have SISR active, the controller turns into an Xbox 360 controller.

However, you can hold down the Steam button and use the right trackpad to use the mouse with the left and right triggers acting as the mouse buttons.

If you want the controller to act like a Steam controller again, go to your system tray in the bottom right of Windows and exit out of SISR.

Here's the app. Enjoy! 🙂

Nice, that's what I was looking for. Thank you

Gotta say this is one of the most informative videos I've seen covering the Steam Controller.

Provides some nice varied examples of how to use the controller's unique inputs to improve different games, even older titles through emulation. Also some nice critique for improvements Valve can make on the software/firmware end.

Figured I'd share this here too, got my Steam Controller in the mail today:

Feels pretty comfortable so far, will try it out more tonight. I did install the Steam Input System Redirector (SISR) app that makes the Steam Controller work with games that can't launch with Steam, and it worked immediately playing the GamePass version of Forza Horizon 6. Rumble worked, it got detected as an Xbox controller, provides a SISR Steam Input profile in Steam to add custom controls, and has an icon in the system tray you can set to startup with your PC.

Thanks for the pics and the link! Mine should be arriving soon, so I'll definitely have to give SISR a try since I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XI with a controller lately.
